Defining "heart" as including outside-the-ring... Breaking through adversity, whilst maintaining dignity... Ortiz. He's a little f'd up but seems a genuine guy.
Goddam, that Mayweather KO of Ortiz was yellow, man. Please don't nobody try to defend that. That was the mark of a winner, but not of a champion.
Mayweather played his career smart, no doubt. Ortiz could've been great too if someone could've gotten him to focus and channel his desire. Stuff like the Robert Garcia stories makes me think that people were taking advantage of Ortiz for large parts of his career - that kind of thing cripples a man
Considering all the training and the drugs and the mismatches, AJ should literally be killing people in the ring. Really hope Fury gets his head sorted out so he can come back and clown this idiot
Picks in bold.
Nice post, good reasoning. Agree with pretty much everything you say but I must correct you on one thing. AJ does not have 'lights out' punching power. He will get Molina out of there but it will be a TKO (as usual)
Parker Vs Ruiz
Chisora Vs Whyte
AJ Vs Molina
Mares Vs Cuellar
Charllo Vs Williams
Menard Vs Beltran
Bud Vs Molina
Parker (TKO9)
Whyte (KO6)
AJ (TKO4)
Cuellar (UD)
Charlo (SD)
Beltran (KO11)
Bud (TKO7)
Charlo v Williams is a hard fight to pick
As Malignaggi said, "All 3 men in the ring got knocked down tonight!" ...you don't see that very often! Lots of action, a man lost a tooth... was hoping they'd agree on a rematch and shake hands or something
Is cocaine banned during competition ? Is it an illegal substance yes or no ? Simple answer is all thats required
You might not want to paint yourself as such an absolutist on this. Teleological nuances are important, i.e. what was the purpose of taking the illegal substance... It seems that while Povetkin was looking to gain a competitive edge, Fury was looking to gain some pleasure.
I suppose you're the kind of person who would lock up a homeless person for stealing bread... RULES ARE RULES!
I want Klinchko to technically outclass AJ, take it the distance, maybe even get him out of there
HOWEVER
I think AJ is too pumped-up (literally), too hungry... plus Klinchko is shot to sh*t and old as f*ck. Hate to say it but I can see AJ taking this. And it is gonna suck to see Sky go into over-hype if it happens
Is weed an illegal substance? Yes or no? Is it it illegal to possess and sell an illegal substance? A simple answer is all that's required. :lol1: :lol1:
LOL!!! hahahaha, exactly
:owned:
I'm in the minority, it seems, because I'd like to see the rubber match in July in Belfast. I think it would be great for the sport, to showcase the professional rivalry between these 2 fighters. It would garner a lot of attention in the media, etc. It would just REALLY suck if the decider was scored as a draw, haha
Out of interest, has there ever been 3 consecutive fights between 2 boxers? I can't think of any?
It is my understanding that when GGG wins (and he will, Jacobs did not want this fight now) Jacobs's title will become vacant and the cycle will start over, with someone else becoming WBA regular world champion in the near future. If a sanctioning body is given the opportunity to do something sensible, you better believe they won't take it
Why is no-one talking about Tureano Johnson?? He's IBF mandatory, and has a fight next month. One more tune-up for Johnson and I can see GGG v Johnson in June
Hey I tried. Nothing tried nothing done.
I will look out for you next year. I always reminded folks in the top ten to pick if I noticed that they hadn't pick even if they were ahead of me.
true dat
thanks
Rather than wait to include the upcoming 108lb title unification, I think I'm gonna call the year with these fights. (Although it is pick 'em worthy)
I'll use the time to update the scores, confirm the winner by going more closely over the records of those in the top 10ish, enjoy the holidays, and do some planning for next year's contest.
As soon as I have the winner I'll post to this thread.
thanks for organising man, big props
So a lot of people have been asking if I am going to count the Huck-Briedis scores. I have decided that I will not be including those scores. This is despite that I would personally benefit from including them, as I picked Briedis by decision.
The reason I decided that is because I felt that it would be unfair for me to post up a thread fewer than 55 hours before the fight and expect everyone to be able to participate. I didn't want laziness on my own part to affect the outcome of the contest.
I put myself in the position of making a decision that would be guaranteed to be unpopular - either I'm a douche who gave everyone less than 55 hours notice or I'm a douche that retroactively decides to remove a fight from the contest.
So in the future, you should assume that all fight threads will be counted regardless of when they were put up. If I feel like it's getting to late too make a Pick 'Em thread for a fight, I just won't put it up at all.
I will still update the 'correct' and 'total' columns for the 70 people who made picks on time, I just will not update scores or ranks.
Fair enough. Thanks again for doing all of this, you'll work out all the kinks as time goes on :)
This is like a slow motion, 4-month-long car crash. Really want Wlad to put this hype-job to sleep but I don't think he's physically or mentally capable.
Physically: Long lay-off, deterioration (wear&tear), slowed metabolism, past prime
Mentally: Was humiliated in last fight and all through the run-up with Fury, has been jerked around last couple of training camps, hasn't performed at his best for a looong time and now his bro's saying he might need 100%
Way I see it, Klinchko is gonna have to pull it all out of the bag to deal with the athleticism of Joshua, and I really doubt that he can. If Joshua wins, it will be by KO I think and it will be a real shame
The closer this fight gets, the more I feel for Bellew... he's in danger of taking some serious damage. This type of fight is not good for boxing's image at all!
I've had people asking about the fight who don't watch boxing so the hype is getting through to the casuals. Hard to know how to respond to, "So, who do ya think's gonna win on Saturday? Haye or Bellew??", though. SMH
Yeah, amazing courage shown.
Shane McGuigan should have let him finish the fight tho. Throw the towel in early if you're gonna...the man fought for 6 rounds whilst barely being able to stay upright ffs, now we gotta listen to how Bellew ''stopped'' Haye. He didn't stop jack sh1t...Haye was stopped by the injury.
Don't rate Shane at all. Not surprised he threw the towel in, cos he knows nothing about heart. Haye could've seen out the fight and denied Bellew putting a stoppage on his record
