Fury is an awkward oaf of a heavyweight. Only a fan boy of unimaginable proportions would consider him a great fighter. He has accomplished nothing to put him in that category. Belts are a meaningless statistic. Lots of belts available means it’s easy to win one. Fury moves well for an awkward oaf. He does not move like a welterweight. Suggest you find another sport to watch.
I’ve been to Autrialia. It’s a beautiful country with the most friendly inhabitants I’ve ever encountered. It appeared to me that most everyone was paid well enough to afford a good life.
Lineal title a the biggest deal. It links the past champions with the present in a logical manner.
Unfortunately the decades of multiple champions in each division has diluted down not only talent but the ability for even very knowledgeable fans to determine a lineal champion.
From what I have read Fury never officially retired. Thus we are faced with the age old question....what do you do with a champion who stops defending his title? This was always a big question mark for those against the idea of the lineal title. Historically the thought was no matter the circumstance the champion remains the champion. So is Fury still the champion after several years of not stepping in the ring?
WBC is a paper title as are ALL other boxing commission “belts”. The only true champion is the champion with an historical link to his predecessors. Unfortunately for all of us boxing has become so muddled it’s nearly impossible to determine who the rightful champion is in all divisions. At hwt certainly Lewis via beating Briggs became worlds hwt champion. Once Lewis retired the picture became quite muddy.
No. If Fury officially retired he is NO LONGER CHAMPION.
When Holmes beat Ali it gave his title credibility as at that time he had beaten the No 1 contender and uncrowned champion Norton PLUS he beat the unretired Ali. These two wins separated Holmes from the paper champions during his reign as champion.
AJ needs to bring all his power to Fury’s body from round one. Fury’s body is a big target and AJ should train to attack Fury’s liver, heart and solar plexus with all his might. Kill the body and the head will die as the saying goes.
Fury is very far from an ATG. What makes a truly great fighter has been convoluted over time. I laugh at the mess of a fighter that is Fury. An awkward, overweight mess. Yet his fans think he beats Joe Louis.
Incompetent fans cheer for incompetent fighters.
Why even discuss such a non topic? The fight was a sham. The MMA fighter had zero chance to win going in. Everyone knew this that understands the sport of boxing. The idea of a second bout is again a sham. It won’t happen as even the stupid fans won’t buy it.
Weights? No. Tons of roadwork. No way he is a trim 258 pound hwt. He could lose 20-30 pounds easy. Right now he is a dough boy. He also needs to learn how to fight.
Just bought a 65 inch top of the line Samsung. Can’t wait to watch this fight. Actually the first fight is about to start and the picture on this set is immaculate. Never seen such a perfect picture on a TV set in my life!
Huge “modern” super well trained super heavyweight 6’6”, 240 lbs gets schooled by a Ali sized 6’3”, 220 lb but more highly skilled fighter.
Those that hang their hat on SIZE in the heavyweight division need to pause and understand their shortcomings. SIZE, reach, physique are the last things to consider. OF COURSE!
Some were making statements that Kovalev would beat Louis, Dempsey and Marciano believe it or not. Those that know what they are doing show patience and never exclaim a fighter as an ATG until they prove as such in the ring. Kovalev failed disastrously. He is not an elite fighter and never was.
