Actually, you can!
You can't say, "that ain't bad".
550k ppv sales with Floyds 30 mill + whatever everyone else got paid, marketing & promotion, etc etc.
That's a major loss financially. No wonder Espinoza came out and tried to calm the waters by saying Floyd wasn't guaranteed 30 mill per fight.
I believe you're incorrect. With 550K in PPV, add in the gate, and (me thinks) they are in the black. Add to that the promotion revenue, and I believe they did quite well. Meaning, they made money (profit) worthy enough for their efforts. Could they have done better and Floyd picked Amir Khan? Definitely! That goes w/o saying. Regardless, they did well. And Floyd's actions state, why take the risk. For the fans? Fck the fans!, his actions are saying. "Ya'll got all ya'll gonna get from me. Take it or leave it." ...and a lot left it, but not enough for all involved to not make some decent money. The man is truly intelligent and did it (life) his way. Kudos!
My opinion (which doesn't mean ish)...
We all believed Oscar starting his own promotion company was good for the sport of boxing, but like all other promoters he has decided to also rip-off boxers by taking a large share of the profits. Arum is the scum of the earth, just like most, if not all promoters. GBP is nothing without Schaeffer. But I think Schaeffer is definitely guilty of working against DLH behind his back with Haymon. What - I suspect - he has done is not in the best of DLH and GBP - even though he made/makes them profitable. But I do think it is in the best interest of boxing (fans) and the boxers. There are no innocent players here. None!
That said, I believe Schaefer leaving and working with Haymon and PBF will not only become the premier players in boxing, but will be the best thing to happen to boxing in our lifetime. Fighters will get fights, they will be compensated better, promoters will take less, and fans will most definitely benefit.
I believe a paradigm shift is about to happen in boxing and the evil type of promoter (robbing the boxers) will be going by the wayside. PBF, Haymon and Schaefer will and are a blessing to the sport of boxing. The fighters and fans will win out. Eventually networks will compete for each fight and not each fighter.
Fans need not support DLH, Arum, Don King, Main Events, etc. they are part and parcel of what is wrong with business. Especially the boxing business. They rob the ones who are really doing the work and the fans and boxers lose out. We need a boxing commission with honest judges and I think if PBF, Haymon and Schaefer team up it will lead to the betterment of boxing overall. At least that's what I hope for. I believe that PBF not only wants to change to be a better person, but that he honestly wants to make boxing a better sport. This is why we (I) initially supported GBP's, but they (DLH) went the way of the dark side. I believe Schaeffer is trying to correct that. I think he means well - but like I stated previously - there are no innocent parties here.
If anyone believes Oscar can help boxing is in denial or just a fan. He had a great life - money, power, fame, wife - and he turned to drugs and returned to trying to make amends with the biggest liar and snake in boxing. Birds of a feather flock together. DLH is stuck on stupid. Arum and Don Kin are the biggest crooks in the history of boxing. Manny resigning with Arum isn't loyalty. Manny is stuck bc Arum knows Manny used PED's. Manny did not need to sign with ANY promoter. He could have called his own shots and made more money while still allowing Arum to promote the majority of his fights. Arum's biggest cash cows left him only to make more money and become greater. Where there is smoke there is fire. Manny is stuck with Arum and his self-serving manager Koncz. If you don't realize that Manny took PED's - like all boxers in the sport believe - then I got some property in Fukashima to sell to you.
I hope Schaefer and GBP promotions split; and that he teams up with Haymon and TMT to create a force within boxing for the greater good of boxing.
I have no inside knowledge. This is just what I suspect from what I read and see. My comments are only an uninformed opinion. Please forgive any typos.
Tito!!!
TEE-TOE!!! ...at any weight. Whenever (prime, not so prime)!
I think Miguel beats his plaster using ass @ MW, and I think Cotto's gonna beat Canelo.
Come at me bros.
Too many to chose from...
My favz r: Tito/Mayorga, Tito/DLH, PBF/Corrales, Ward/Burton, Ward/Gatti, Ettiene/Cleybey, SSM/Vargas, SSM/DLH, Hagler/Hearns, Ali/Frazier II, RJJ/Ruiz, RJJ/Griffin II, All 3 Morales/Barreras, Morales/Paq I, SSM/Margarito, Mayorga/Forredt.... I could go on...
If you had to pick one, what would it be? Personally, I'm gonna go with Pavlik vs Taylor 1.
Easy choice...
I say RJjr easily, but I liked Sweet Pea a lot. I also believe he beat Chavez and DLH, but was robbed. Drugs did him in though - as we can clearly see when he fought Tito. Though I believe Tito would have beaten him w/o his addiction problems.
Accept this fight will never happen....
One is with Showtime and the other is with HBO. Add to that, the beef between Arum & GB, Arum and PBF, steroids (testing), and money percentages. PBF is not going to give Paq more money or PPV sales. PBF doesn't lose (in the ring or outside the ring). This fight will NEVER happen. Fans of boxing need to just let it go. It's insanity to continue to talk about something when the only thing that has transpired since is even more obstacles have come into play. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. ACCEPT IT. Once accepted, we can have more productive conversations. It's depressing that people won't realize the truth (PBF/Paq never going to happen). Regardless of the past and Showtime/HBO working something out. This is very different. Arum et. al. are only talking about PBF and boycotts to promote Paq (future PPV sales). Open up your hands and just let it go. Let the dream of this fight happening go away. Talk about Paq/JMM and PBF/Cotto 2. Those are possible fights. Though I don't want to see PBF fight anymore. No one at 140-154 will beat him. Nothing to accomplish and if he fought Paq it would be an embarrassment for Paq (he'll get KTFO). I do believe there was a time that Paq could have beat PBF, but that is when he was on PEDs. He's off PEDs now. No chance. Love Paq for the fights he has fought/will fight. Love PBF for the fights he has fought/will fight. Just enjoy the sweet science. End of story.
Why didn't Manny call out Floyd in the post fight interview? And why didn't Max Kellerman even mention floyd as a possible opponent? He just won the fight to put him back into the mix... Is it just beating a dead horse at this point (i.e. it's a waste of time to call floyd out anymore)... Was bob arum just pissed at MGM and didn't want Floyd to get any more attention?
All that aside, I felt last night's fight had a special energy to it. I don't know if it was because it started so late at midnight or I wanted Manny to get his title back, but my heart my was literally racing throughout the fight. I don't think any other sport generates this level of buildup and anticipation. It's a true visceral effect. I honestly wouldn't mind Bradley/Pac III... I'd even prefer it to another Marquez fight... Besides Mayweather, really who else is there that can generate that sort of build up?
Trainer Freddie Roach is preparing Manny Pacquiao to throw punches at all times. He doesn't want Pacquiao to fall into traps on May 2nd, by following Floyd Mayweather Jr. around the ring without being active with his hands. The two fighters will collide for the WBO/WBA/WBC welterweight titles at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Roach reflects back on Pacquiao making one fatal mistake against Juan Manuel Marquez in the sixth round of their fourth meeting in 2012, where the Filipino star lunged in and got knocked out cold by a Marquez counter. Mayweather is a better counter-puncher than Marquez and often forces fighters to follow him around the ring while breaking them down with counters as they get within range.
Floyd is not only going to destroy Manny, he's going to look good doing it. Think Floyd/Gatti. It's gonna b a flawless victory (KO).
