This isn't about who would win in a fight between them, this is about who's ranked higher P4P. They were both ranked at the top of the P4P list in the 90s, but who ranks higher P4P all time?
Whitaker was robbed many times, and for that reason, I'd say it's about even between he and Jones.
Both were great fighters during their time. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Whitaker was somewhat abused by the politics of the sport, which occasionally happens to some great fighters.
That Chavez robbery was a thing of bewilderment. I was there and the crowd was silent by the end of the 12th, you could hear a pin drop. I remember turning to a colleague and saying this was the best counter punching performance I'd seen in a decade and then the scores were read out. I'm not I believe it to this day.
Having said that, in their primes, I think Roy Jones was better, he had speed and power and could stop you just as soon as outpoint you. Problem is, he never took the fights he should have whereas Whitaker did, which is why he is probably always ranked higher.

I agree about roy and sweet pea.
The only thing for me is what sweet pea had, you can teach. what roy had, either god gives it to you or he doesn't.

Ruiz isn't a good win. And don't give me that "He was the first MW to win a title at HW in 100 years." bull****, either. Roy hand-picked Ruiz because he was a feather-fisted, slow HW who didn't have a huge size advantage over him. Ruiz got KTFO against Tua in 19 seconds. Any of the other HWs would have knocked Roy spark out.
Ruiz was a bit inexperienced when he fought Tua and got blitzed with a punch not too many heavy's could handle. I think it's more telling that none of the other HW's Ruiz fought (and he fought nearly all of them) barely came close to accomplishing that.
I would say roy at his peak was better, and i would favor him over pernell,,
Pernell had more quality fights/opponents, but jones had dominant performances over hopkins, toney, hill, ruiz and pernell was never that dominant in the ring as roy

they were both the same type of fighter. excellent specimen. pea was more gifted defensively and roy offensively. pea is the more accomplished fighter tho
So basically, two completely different fighters. :lol1:
Roy at his best, it's hard to look at anyone who I would have favored over him. Pernell Whitaker was clearly more versatile than Roy Jones, so with that said I don't think you can go wrong with either pick. I prefer Whitaker by the way.

I hear you.
RJJ in his prime offensively was well, damn near super human.
Speed kills.
And it really gets no faster then Jones at 160-168.
Easy choice...
I say RJjr easily, but I liked Sweet Pea a lot. I also believe he beat Chavez and DLH, but was robbed. Drugs did him in though - as we can clearly see when he fought Tito. Though I believe Tito would have beaten him w/o his addiction problems.
and got knocked out by a journey man mexican cab driver years before when chavez sr was in his prime and whitaker wanted nothing to do with him
I just watched Pea vs Chavez last night. Probably for the 20th time.
It was a catch weight fight, by the way.
Pea won by a wide margin. And I'm being diplomatic.
whitiker is from differnt era where fighters fought the best, challenged themselfs. roy great fighter and should have done more.
Whitiker stands ahead of Roy.
cuhz got slept nah he didn't get slept but he did get his ass handed to him and handed his first lost by a journeyman when he could have stepped up to the plate he fought chavez when he was leaving his prime moving up into a new weight division
Who did? Whitaker?
Are you talking about the Ramirez robbery?
Are you calling Ramirez a journeyman?
You're an idiot :lol1:
"Knocked out by a journeyman" :lol1:
