The ring-wars between the two nations technically got under way back in October of 1978 when famed Puerto Rican Wilfred Gomez set out to defeat the once-thought-to-be unstoppable Carlos Zarate, who remains the only boxer in history to put together two streaks of 20 or more knockouts. The winner of 55 fights in a row with all but one coming by way of KO, never in a million years did anyone think - despite his greatness - that Wilfred Gomez would be able to pull off the victory.
They should skip down the yellow brick road together and ask for a heart and a chin when they get to the wizard.
lol agree i think khan needs to stop cherry picking.
he need to get a S/C coach he got to loss more body fat he should cut down to feather weight he be good there. I think he to fat but he is still pretty quick
okay let me break it down to everybody why PR freak when somebody talking shit about cotto. PR is a super small Island most PRicans love baseball and boxing. that pretty much the only sports where good at. when you talk badley of cotto its like talking badley about pr. we are such a small race anything we bring to world we do it with super pride. PRican are by far the most proudful race i even seen. I lived in Boston,NY,PA,TX,PR,CA, meet so many deffrent races i dont think any race(maybe brazilis) comes close to be so proudful. I know some of us get out hand at times just ingore it like i do lol. you got to understand we just wanted to be herd and respected .
There's no blue print to beat ginger snaps lol ... Let's face it all wild card fighters can't fight on the inside. I can see it now vanes will be running all night while ginger diggs to the body
If Berto inside game is still huggy bear I pick Ortiz. The fact is Berto can't fight on the inside he looks to grab instead of punching.he let the fight slip away on the inside.
if Berto still doesnt have a inside game he will lose again .Victor has many flaws but on the inside he doesnt. Berto is a mid rage fighter after he throws a speed combo he looks to hug.
Did I miss something, this happened months ago........
You didn't miss any thing I was just thinking what a true boxing prodigy he is.. Why the hell did he sign up with shaw debella
Good record with some pretty good competition.

Here's a good KO at 6:40.
Damn that dude is ripped
http://www.boxingscene.com/miguel-cotto-welcomes-margarito-rematch-next-june--15862
shut up please :lol1:
hahahahha you owned his ass people forget that cotto wanted a rematch right after his lost before margo was caught cheating
Neither Margarito nor Mayorga had any reason to being rank top 20 in the division let alone top 10. So when you think about it and that that under consideration. There is no question, that there is no absolute kingpin of the division.
You can say he wins by default but It should be well respected thoe. He desever the recantion as the top. The division is what is and we have to wait and see how it pans out.
the funny thing is james kirkland and erislandy lara have the most impressive performances in the lat year or so. so i think one of those guys should be ranked above cotto. with that said the king of 154 is sergio martinez. hes the best fighter in both divisions.
You bring up a good point but the fact are Lara lost he also doesn't have a belt.kirkland just rejoined the 154 division after be ko at 160 .sergio can only be ranked at the weight he fights.
rios would beat him just like he beat his brother
His brother fought a stupid fight try to bang with a big banger .. A. Peterson came in a little over 135 while rios was a jmw on fight night. Anthony has alway been the brawler in the fam.
Peterson simply doesn't have the power to keep Rios off. Rios stops him after an accumulation of punishment
How do. You know that Rios chin is good at 140 he will weight as much as Peterson. Cotto punches couldn't stop Margo but look what he did
Peterson made Amir Khan uncomfortable is why i think he did so well but i think Rios will make Peterson uncomfortable if they fight and stop him late in the fight.
I respect your opion I guess the question are more about Rios. Like will he bring his punching power with him and will his chin be the same.. Peterson already stated that Rios style will be very inviting. He rather fight a guy like Rios over Kahn
Peterson takes Rios to school. Wide UD
I don't see how pple think Rios will steam roll him. I see a major wide ud it will be the fight Acosta should fought. Acosta gave up to much ground
I think Peterson is smart enought to not bang with the bigger banger. Berry Hunter and A Peterson would be very familiar with Rios . so I am sure they will have a multiple plans that night.
well we have to see Rios at 140 1st I feel Rios would get exposed at JrWW but then again Rios style is too dangerous for Lamont who has no real power, If I was Arum this is the 1st fight I will put Rios in at 140
I agree arum should move on this ASAP it will the best way to get two belt and really build a solid name for Rios. It's a winnable fight for Rios but I got feeling it going to be a rude awakening for him
RIOS WINS...to much credit has been given to Peterson over his hair thin (I thought he lost the fight) victory over Khan. Peterson has been knocked down by bradley, ortiz, and khan. Kudos for having the balls to get back up and finish the fight against all of those top class fighters. Rios on the other hand is another breed! He knocks you down he will finish you. He will be even STRONGER at 140. He will not have to struggle with weight which is a positive not a negative.
RIOS BY BRUTAL KO~!
I see your point but we can't grasp what Rios power be at 140. If history proves anything most boxer lose pop when they move up. Look at Tito monster power at 147 great power at 154 good power at 160. Rio is not a big puncher he is more of a Margo type. I can see this be a similar repeat of Acosta Fight . Just thinking of this fight making my mouth water loo
I will leave my take on what i think about rios vs lamont (which was addressed to another poster)
people think that rios will have a better chance because of his win against anthony.
but the peterson brothers do not fight identical. on the outside they have a identical stance. thats it. lamont has a better jab, much better head movement, much better stamina. the problem with anthony on the outside is he's not good on his toes (or slipping punches) anthony peterson has little to NO fundamentals on the outside while lamont has a vast amount. anthony peterson is more of a knock off of lamont, lamont is also much more relaxed then anthony. anthony is always screaming & trying to out muscle you. lamont follows the game plan for 12 rounds & makes the proper adjustments to beat you.....so no. they don't fight identical. similar stance, but thats where it ends. also I'm not sure that anthony even has more power then lamont. in fact i think lamont has more power then anthony because lamont's fights are at a higher weight against MUCH tougher competition. anthony also don't know what a body shot is, while lamont RIPS them.
& heres the NUMBER ONE THING THAT SEPARATES LAMONT FROM ANTHONY. anthony has actually fought no one besides rios........he's really still kind of a prospect. lamont has fought everyone. bradley, khan, cayo, ortiz.
but back to rios..........i see this as a easy fight for lamont because i feel that rios won't know what to do with lamont on the outside, & lamont will mix it up on brandon. he'll pick at him on the outside & come in on the inside & get the better of him & then go back to picking at him on the outside.........heres the thing with rios. rios needs distance. i don't buy at ALL that rios is a better inside fighter vs lamont. i think rios likes to be CLOSE TO HIS OPPONENT. but that's not inside fighting....that's just letting your hands go when you close the distance. being in your chest & letting off 5 shots to the body (while stepping to the side & wacking you with a right) thats inside fighting. you can also smother & turn your opponent on the inside & wack at him when he least expects it (which is another thing that lamont loves) thats fundamentals.........lamont is very fundamentally gifted. he does a lot of little things. he can walk forward while slipping all of your punches for goodness sakes........fundamentals.
i don't think rios will be prepared for lamonts inside & outside game.........also if lamont finds out that one thing is working through out the fight, he won't feel a need to make further adjustments. if he feels like he can just jab rios to death from the outside. he'll do that for 12 rounds. you are a true critical think my good boy. You don't see as black and white I agree with you on many point . Green k given
I think that Rios will be in for a rude awakening at 140. Not only will he lack the physical advantages that he was used to at 135 by draining himself into a grotesque zombie, but he won't have the same type of power. There is a big difference between the John Murray's of the world and people like Lucas Matthysse or even Lamont Peterson in this case. As long as Peterson fights smart, I can see him wearing down and stopping Rios late since Rios has been extremely susceptible to being hurt by body punches as he's been hurt and dropped by them. If Rios comes in at 155+ or so and drains himself like he always does, then things start to get very interesting.
Co sign Rio only has one style one plan of attack. His style is only good as his chin . That style doesn't go to well when your moving up . Look at Margo he could never win one single fight at 154. I am talking about Margo early career at 154 .
