Do you think Juan Diaz should look for a new trainer? He's very young and has potential I just think he's been too comfortable lately and its hurtin his career. Thoughts??
Malignaggi was sharp tonight for much of the bout, especially early. But he was helped by some horrendous corner advice from Diaz's trainer Ronnie Shields, who saw a fight none of us watching were seeing. Shields was inconsistent, asking Diaz to do things he can't do (like out-jab Paulie), and changing his advice constantly on whether or not Juan should be doing what Juan does, which is bull-rushing and making a volume fight of it. from BADLEFTH00Kdotcom
Keep in mind while reading I know what weight he fought at against Paulie. This comment below is just my overall observation of Juan Diaz's performance in the past 18-24 months.
I think its time for Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz to get a new Trainer and probably train somewhere else. So he can refresh and develop better habits, IMO moving and training under someone else will DO THAT.
His current trainer is and was good to get hi mto this point but its obvious he hasn't reached a higher level in his boxing career. He hasnt really improved.
His fights against Frietas and Julio Diaz were great but ever since he lost to Nate Campbell he hasnt been the same. Except for his fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, which he did very well.
But if you compare his tenacity and boldness from his fights with Acelino and Julio VS Katsidis and PAulie, Juan Diaz seems to be a very different fighter.
Its time for him to move on with another trainer and different location in order for him to succeed.
okay let me break it down to everybody why PR freak when somebody talking shit about cotto. PR is a super small Island most PRicans love baseball and boxing. that pretty much the only sports where good at. when you talk badley of cotto its like talking badley about pr. we are such a small race anything we bring to world we do it with super pride. PRican are by far the most proudful race i even seen. I lived in Boston,NY,PA,TX,PR,CA, meet so many deffrent races i dont think any race(maybe brazilis) comes close to be so proudful. I know some of us get out hand at times just ingore it like i do lol. you got to understand we just wanted to be herd and respected .
he need to get a S/C coach he got to loss more body fat he should cut down to feather weight he be good there. I think he to fat but he is still pretty quick

For those of you who have been talking smack about Juan Diaz, CMON, give me a break, are you serious?
This guy is really young, and has a bright future in boxing if he wants to. He's not done, not even close. He needs to pick the right fighters for now and fight at the RIGHT weight class. but other than that, he has potential, too much potential.
IMO he needs to leave Houston and find a new training camp, maybe Mayweather SR. or Nacho Beristain, or roach.
But his career is not over. BE SERIOUS NOT STUPID.
He's not gonna get any better...
Exactly. We've seen the best of Juan Diaz. He doesn't need a better trainer, he needs a conditioning coach to work on that body, his power, and speed.
Juan Diaz is not a JWW. He needs to stay at 135.
Diaz is a fat hobbit
A fat hobbit, who probably makes more money than you and outbox you.
How many times ave you boxed on HBO or even ESPN friday night fights or late fights??
paulie is just a bad style for him no matter what gameplan....juan is best suited with fighters similiar to his style....
i agree in part. I feel at this time Juan Diaz aint really ready for Paulie. As much as I hate Paulie's style. I still feel part of the lose was to do not preparing completely for this fight. Juan Diaz IMO hasnt added much to his arsenal. He needs new a trainer!!!!!!!!!!
Ronnie Shields is a pretty good trainer, maybe he had an off night but yeah, his advice in the corner was pretty strange, telling Diaz to take a round off when Diaz was pretty far behind on the cards and stuff and it does seem like Diaz has stagnated or something, he doesn't seem to be learning too much new stuff so maybe a change in trainers wouldn't be a bad idea.
Don't see too much wrong with his manager though.
Diaz needs to take some time off and rededicate himself. He's still young, and 8-12 months off would do him some good.
He needs to try and work on his body, that much is clear. He's not going to have success at 140, so he needs to stay at 135.
A trainer change would also do him some good. He needs to change everything up and start over.
