I trained for a couple of years as a teen and had eight amateur fights (5-3.) I always loved the sport, but things got complicated back then and I didn't step back into a boxing gym until my mid-20s. No more fights then, just training and sparring as much as I could helping others get ready for fights. Nowadays I still go into a boxing gym three times a week, but it's to drop off and pick up my son from his training.
I suppose you didn't know John Travolta was gay either.

By the way, he is married and has kids!
Maybe it's a scientology thing??? :dunno: :D
Mayan Sun and ShadeyFizzle: nice argument and all, but who do you guys think then Marquez should fight next? Am I the only one that thinks a fight (and win of course) against Humberto Soto would be good for him?
Like I said, Guzman would be cool, but maybe too risky 'cause of his slick style and possibly derail the momentum for a third fight with Pacquiao. Valero would be a fun watch, but Marquez would have to travel overseas.
So how 'bout it? Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Humberto Soto???
He should go with Guzman at this point. He may have a problem with Valero since I think they both have the same Japanese trainers, and Guzman is more rewarding. From there he should take out one lightweight champion to chase Manny. He has to chase Manny if he wants another huge payday because I dont think Pacquiao is going down to SFW anymore. Otherwise he could just rule 130 and until he retires.
You think Guzman is the best option for Marquez if he wants Pacquiao in the fall? Guzman would definitely be a good win and I'd love to see someone put a whoopin on him, but his style is very difficult and could derail Marquez's road to a third fight with Pac.
I don't think Marquez and Valero have the same trainers, do they? Marquez has Nacho Berinstien and I don't think Valero is trained by him. Anyway, that fight would probably be tough for Marquez to accept since it'd probably have to be staged overseas.
Back to Guzman though, now that I think about it, a lot of people were saying that Pac ducked Guzman and if Marquez could beat him soundly, that'd look good for the third fight too. I don't know, like you say, he could always just stay at 130 and reign supreme if he beats Guzman, but he'd miss out on that big payday with Pac.
Although the Chris John thing sounds kinda good for an undercard bout on Pac-Diaz, how likely is it that John would fight outside of Indonesia? And what weight would the fight be at? Featherweight? Also, how much hype/credit would Marquez get for beating him? I know he'd be avenging a loss...but against an unknown fighter to most fans here in the States.
A low-risk "easy" fight sounds good for Marquez just to keep busy and stay sharp, but I really think he needs to fight and beat a somewhat known fighter impressively to up his demand for a third fight with Pac. If he's gonna get that third fight, is HAS to happen this fall! Marquez ain't getting any younger. A fight with Guzman would be great, but risky 'cause of his slick, difficult style. Valero would be interesting, but he'd probably have to fight overseas. How about a fight with Humberto Soto on the Pac-Diaz undercard? :boxing:
You can see all the videos on this account: http://www.youtube.com/user/Gomezassistant
And it is a build-up to the fight with Gomez only for the most part by Gomez' ppl, hence the "watch the journey of one man" bit in the promo. You do see Cotto in the press conference during Part 1 though.
Thanks! I appreciate it! :)
If Marquez truly believes he beat Pacquiao twice already and wants a 3rd match that badly then he has no choice. Simply racking up wins against the 3other panzies at 130 that Mayan sun thinks are monsters definitely aint gonna do Marquez any favors financially or legacywise.
I think Guzman is the only guy at 130 that Marquez would get major props for beating. Other than that, the rest would just be stay-busy fights...there's some solid guys, but not anyone that people would be amazed that Marquez beat.
BTW, speaking of potential opponents for Marquez...have any of you heard about a proposed Humberto Soto-Mzonke Fana fight this May in Mexico? Is it official? If so, then I guess that kinda ties up a couple of potential opponents for Marquez's next fight.
Oh, I got Soto by stoppage if the Fana fight does happen! :boxing:
Honestly I think he's going to move up to 135 and after a few fights have a third fight with Pacman. I would like to see him fight Guzman but I just don't see it happening. What he showed in the rematch with Pac should be enough to open up some options for him.
Who do you think he should test himself against at 135?
If that bout pushes through i can already see the title : Marquez - Casamayor : No Country for Old Men ....
:haha: :haha:
 Good one! C'mon now though, Marquez ain't THAT old yet!
Juan should avoid Humberto and Guzman to the same extent that Paq has avoided them, those are the two sharpest and hardest hitters at 130 and up to 135. Even Valereo, he's too much of a risk. Avoid all 3.
I don't know if Guzman is one of the hardest hitters in the division, but he's definitely physically strong...the guy swells up to 150 lbs. by fight time!!! I'd like to see Marquez fight and beat him, but I think it's too risky, 'cause a loss to him would hurt Marquez's demands for a third fight.
Soto on the other hand would be a good fight (and hopefully win) for Marquez. Soto has some good power and boxing skills, but I think Marquez could take him. It'd be a good fight no doubt! :boxing:
If we want Marquez to take a "low-risk" fight, who'd you have in mind? He could always fight (and almost certainly) win another title by fighting Mzonke Fana...maybe a rematch with Barrera makes him some decent money??? Some people though Barrera won the first fight, so a rematch might make sense before moving up to call out Pacquiao at lightweight? I don't know, just throwing out some ideas.
he should go after the wbc belt after pac vacates and act like nothing happened
I think Sulaiman said that Marquez would be the #1 ranked fighter for the WBC belt. Does anyone know who's currently ranked #2? Who'd Marquez have to fight for the vacant belt?
Because I'm looking beyond Manny Pacquiao in the lightweight division. There are some guys with serious power and durability in that division who could definetely hurt Marquez. I don't know if Marquez can bring power into that weightclass, and for the record, I don't think for one minute that Pacquiao will just "roll through" the lightweight division.
I'd definitely be down for a Marquez-Casamayor fight too! If he wins, it'd make a statement to Pacquiao like ShadeyFizzle said and the third bout would be unavoidable.
Looking past Pacquiao though (and assuming Casamayor first), I don't know what else Marquez would do. He'd be 35-36 by then and maybe thinking about retirement...unless he beats Pacquiao and can potentially make 2-3 more money fights.
I'm telling you guys a JMM vs Casamayor fight is Only logical step for EVERYONE!!!. Think about it. A pac/marquezIII bout now would do nothing but hand out another controversial decsion regardless of weight class. but Pac vs MarquezIII for the wbc and ring mazine lineal lightweight championship would make it a trilogy for the ages. What other trilogy in boxing history has ever been so bitterly contested without a clear victor and spanning 3weight divisions?? What other fighter in boxing history has ever been on the verge of making history 3 times only to have the same opponent stand between him and history three times?? If i was marquez i would be hounding nacho to get delahoya on the fone and make this fight happen. cuz a trilogy bout under these circumstances would be the mega fight that will shatter ppv records and put fighters on the world map. Anyone even remotely interested in boxing will tune in to see if Pac could carve out a history making 4th lineal title and place in history he will have all to himself and topple Mayweather's reign as the p4p best?? Or will his bitter rival foil his history making bid and prove like he's been saying all along that he is the better man??
Is any1 else besides me sold on the idea of this and the gravity it will have on hbo's finances and boxing history besides me?? This fight would be HUGE if both Pacquiao got by diaz and JMM got by Casamayor. It wouldnt matter if Marquez was 42...it would still do over a million ppv EASILY if this were to happen.
I'm with you, the idea of Marquez-Casamayor sounds great! We're just stating that IF he were to stay at 130, Guzman is the only fighter worth fighting...if you want recognition for it. A Pac-JMM fight at lightweight with belts at stake would be huge! I don't know about a million buys, but it'd be big no doubt!
has he always talked like that???
my primary language is spanish, and i really didn´t understand anything he said, but almost nothing. and i was wondering if he always talks like that or if all the punches have finally made him punch drunk or something. also cubans talks very nice, so it really amazes me how bad he talks xD....
Most of the Cubans I've ever met talk like that...at least the black ones. Very fast and with that distinct Cuban accent. The non-black Cubans talk similar, but tend to speak slower and at an easier pace to follow...at least for a Mexican like me! :D
There's a Cuban guy that's married to my brother's sister-in-law that we usually hang out with. His Spanish is pretty easy to follow, except when he gets drunk and starts talking all fast and slurry! We always gotta tell him to slow the fuck down! :D
Well let's not forget Cintron can't fight for shit on the inside. He never once tied up Margarito when he was hurt. That was a really dumb thing not to do.
And Williams definietly got the better of the fight between Margarito. Margarito is just like a wall so it never shows he's been in a fight. I couldn't believe the shots he was taking from cintron.
Still Cintron could have done more to beat Margarito. He was doing great for about a minute and a half of each round and then get destroyed, but Margarito still seems like he could be beat.
If anything moving around-boxing and taking a fighter like margarito out of his element so he can't land shit is really impressive to me. I just don't think people should get so hyped up over a performance that the guy easily dominated before.
It certainly didn't show that Margarito was #3 in the division. I bet he stays at 5.
People shouldn't get too hyped up about it, but let his fans get excited...just think about how many people here were saying Cintron was going to get his revenge and KO Margarito.
Margarito does the best that he can with the skills that he has. He can be beaten of course, but he's a tough night for just about anyone.
BTW, I say he'd beat Williams pretty comfortably (maybe 116-112) in a rematch by starting to throw from round one. A Clottey rematch is warranted at some point too, and that one's a close call. Margarito started late in that one too, and even though Clottey broke his hand, didn't Margarito get hurt too? It'd be a good fight either way.
And I don't know who wins if he fights Cotto.
It's definitely either Bute by UD or Andrade by KO! The fight will be in Montreal no doubt, so I can't see Andrade winning a decision...unless he manages to score 2-3 knockdowns.
I was watching a few of Bute's fights today and he's definitely more skilled, but that come-forward in-your-face style of Andrade will give anyone fits! I definitely want to see this one, hell, I might even make a trip out of it and go party with some Canadians! :beerchug:
So how do you guys think he'll do against Lucian Bute? I'd like to see this guy win a world title. I don't know how long his reign would last, but it'd be nice to see him win one. :boxing:
Bute seems like a smart fighter to me. He'll keep Andrade at a safe distance with his jab and excellent footwork. I'd love to see Andrade win, but I can't imagine that happening in Montreal.
I honestly haven't watched any of Bute's fights so I was just wondering, since Andrade is now his mandatory. I'll have to look a few up and check them out.
You're right though, unless Andrade stops him, it'd be tough to win a decision in Montreal, since that's probably where the fight would be. Still, you never know, from what I've heard about Bute, this could be a really great fight! :boxing:
I loved it though when Max Kellerman told Casamayor in the interview "you win some robberies, you lose some." Haha! Referring to his bullshit win over Santa Cruz. They didn't have much to say about that did they?!?!?
I picked chavez to win...but some of you guys are ridiculous saying its murder...I seen some bums lasted longer with chavez and then now chavez murders pacquiao? please
my point is also pacman never had an amatuer background but stepped up way sooner then Chavez...chavez had so many taxi cab drivers and he fought jerry lewis 2 times pacman fought for a title against a top guy faster then chavez.
one of chavez victims
http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=8139&cat=boxer
Chávez fought a lot of bums 'cause he loved to fight and liked staying busy. :boxing: He did it old school like the throwback fighters.
The point is, when it was time to step up, he did and won. He fought whoever wanted to fight him or whoever was put in front of him. It's too bad a lot of today's fighters aren't like that.
Pacquiao would have his moments and land some nice shots on Chávez early because of his speed advantage, but with JC Superstar's iron chin, Pac would eventually fold under the relentless pressure of Chávez. The size difference alone would be an imposing challenge for Pac.
Pacman would put up a fight 'cause he's got some balls, but Chávez would take him out in 8-10. :boxing:
Marg got that for defending is WBO agaiinst Williams. He will be getting close to 3mil for this fight. Cotto maybe 5-6 mil
Margarito is really getting that much??? I know he got $1.5 versus Williams, but then he lost. And wasn't that the same amount he would've gotten to fight Cotto then if he would've skipped Williams?
I know he's since won two fights and captured another world-title belt, but I wouldn't think he'd be getting more than maybe $2 million tops. Where'd you hear the $3 million figure at?
A Todo Madre, A Puro Desmadre
COTTO vs. MARGARITO
"Un Desmadre a Toda Madre"
That would be crazy as hell if they actually promoted it like that! At least in Spanish commercials anyway.
Of course. Backing out of this fight would be a terrible move.
Cotto needs to beat Marg. His leverage against DLH and May depends on it. If Cotto beats Marg convincingly he solidifies his status as the genuine fighter taking the hard fights and winning them (as opposed to the to businessman pikcing their fights too carefully).
Cotto blasting Marg out would make him a legit candidate for p4p#1, above Joe and Manny and arguable with May.
This guy makes some great points. :biggthump
It would suck if this fight didn't go through, and about the only way I wouldn't be pissed off at Cotto for not fighting Margarito is if all of the sudden he made a fight with Mayweather. Other than that, he'd fucking suck for not fighting Marg...maybe a mega-money fight with Oscar would be understandable too.
I would've liked to have seen him fight Librado Andrade. But, that may have been too risky of a fight for a first defense of his title. Maybe next time! :boxing:
