Okay, so Arum has made it clear that there won't be an immediate rematch between Pac and JMM...the earliest the two could fight again would be in the fall and most likely at 135 lbs.
Pacquiao has a date scheduled to fight David Diaz in June...so what should be next for Marquez??? It's obvious he should stay active and fight someone in the summer as well. A win against a good opponent will get him back on track and ready for Pac in the fall. Should he fight someone like Humberto Soto? Or maybe go for another title belt fighting Joan Guzman, Edwin Valero or Mzonke Fana (I think he's still the IBF champ)? Could a rematch with Barrera make sense since Barrera is supposedly coming back out of retirement? Or since Pac is moving up, should Marquez test the lightweight waters as well? Against who?
What you guys think???
If that bout pushes through i can already see the title : Marquez - Casamayor : No Country for Old Men ....
:haha: :haha:
HAHAhAAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! i could also see it being titled "Gatekeepers" because that is what they essentially both have been throughout their careers. Gatekeepers to fame fortune and success. Much like the buffalo bills were the gatekeepers to the superbowl trophy in the 90s. lol

 Good one! C'mon now though, Marquez ain't THAT old yet!
Pacquiao's camp knows that, theyre just playing poker with the Marquez camp to squeeze them into submission so that they can control on their demands. With Nacho on Marquez's side its so easy to be vulnerable. :)
Perhaps...but a Casamayor victory actually gives the Marquez camp plenty of leverage. Cuz marquez could refuse the 3rd fight with Pacquiao and defend the lineal title against bum after bum. Keeping history and p4p supremacy just out of Pac's reach. And besides...the fight would be so historic and make so much money regardless... that both could retire on the spot very rich men...win lose or draw.
I'm with you, the idea of Marquez-Casamayor sounds great! We're just stating that IF he were to stay at 130, Guzman is the only fighter worth fighting...if you want recognition for it. A Pac-JMM fight at lightweight with belts at stake would be huge! I don't know about a million buys, but it'd be big no doubt!

I'm telling you guys a JMM vs Casamayor fight is Only logical step for EVERYONE!!!. Think about it. A pac/marquezIII bout now would do nothing but hand out another controversial decsion regardless of weight class. but Pac vs MarquezIII for the wbc and ring mazine lineal lightweight championship would make it a trilogy for the ages. What other trilogy in boxing history has ever been so bitterly contested without a clear victor and spanning 3weight divisions?? What other fighter in boxing history has ever been on the verge of making history 3 times only to have the same opponent stand between him and history three times?? If i was marquez i would be hounding nacho to get delahoya on the fone and make this fight happen. cuz a trilogy bout under these circumstances would be the mega fight that will shatter ppv records and put fighters on the world map. Anyone even remotely interested in boxing will tune in to see if Pac could carve out a history making 4th lineal title and place in history he will have all to himself and topple Mayweather's reign as the p4p best?? Or will his bitter rival foil his history making bid and prove like he's been saying all along that he is the better man??
Is any1 else besides me sold on the idea of this and the gravity it will have on hbo's finances and boxing history besides me?? This fight would be HUGE if both Pacquiao got by diaz and JMM got by Casamayor. It wouldnt matter if Marquez was 42...it would still do over a million ppv EASILY if this were to happen.

At this point, Guzman is the only logical choice and the only noise he can make if he wants to be in the scene. Yes its a dangerous fight but his camp admitted that they dont have the luxury of time. A 3rd fight with Pacquiao would be $$$ for both fighters and promoters. But that sonnamagun Arum has his gameface going and have set conditions to which only JMMs camp could only accept and they dont have much bargaining power.
I think Valero fights out of teiken Gym and marquez with Romanza Gym which i think are allied with each other. Valero is even with the marquez entourage.

You think Guzman is the best option for Marquez if he wants Pacquiao in the fall? Guzman would definitely be a good win and I'd love to see someone put a whoopin on him, but his style is very difficult and could derail Marquez's road to a third fight with Pac.
I don't think Marquez and Valero have the same trainers, do they? Marquez has Nacho Berinstien and I don't think Valero is trained by him. Anyway, that fight would probably be tough for Marquez to accept since it'd probably have to be staged overseas.
Back to Guzman though, now that I think about it, a lot of people were saying that Pac ducked Guzman and if Marquez could beat him soundly, that'd look good for the third fight too. I don't know, like you say, he could always just stay at 130 and reign supreme if he beats Guzman, but he'd miss out on that big payday with Pac.

I think Guzman is the only guy at 130 that Marquez would get major props for beating. Other than that, the rest would just be stay-busy fights...there's some solid guys, but not anyone that people would be amazed that Marquez beat.
Which is exactly why he has no other option BUT to move up to lightweight along with Pacquiao. And in the same token Casamayor has no other options BUT to fight Marquez. Even Joel knows that without a Marquez victory then Campbell and the undisputed lightweight championship is a wayy more attractive bout 4 Pacquiao. Campbell sure as hell aint gonna fight Casa anytime soon cuz he wants his payday as well and knows Pac will come knocking for his 3 straps.
If Marquez truly believes he beat Pacquiao twice already and wants a 3rd match that badly then he has no choice. Simply racking up wins against the 3other panzies at 130 that Mayan sun thinks are monsters definitely aint gonna do Marquez any favors financially or legacywise.

Joan Guzman!!!
That might be a bad idea. Guzman can beat him and that will mess things up for Marquez IMO. It would be a good none the less but from a business standpoint it would really hurt Marquez if he were to lose.(just my opinion)
He should go with Guzman at this point. He may have a problem with Valero since I think they both have the same Japanese trainers, and Guzman is more rewarding. From there he should take out one lightweight champion to chase Manny. He has to chase Manny if he wants another huge payday because I dont think Pacquiao is going down to SFW anymore. Otherwise he could just rule 130 and until he retires.

I suppose you're right. I guess I was looking at it from the angle of he just beat Marquez so what value could a win for Casamayor over a guy Pacquiao already beat prove? Afterall, we see situations all the time like that in boxing so the logic isn't totally nuts, but then again neither is yours. I still think Marquez-Casamayor would be a good fight and I kinda hope to see Marquez step up to lightweight and chase Pacquiao down.

Yes...Casamayor is looking for 1 last big payday. he knows that beating Marquez is a surefire ticket to a date with Pac and his big payday which makes the fight all the more likely to happen. Otherwise beating the other grandpa who beat the other young guy who called you out but becoming undisputed lightweight champion in the process is a wayy more attractive option for Pacquiao

I agree with the idea of JMM getting himself into a position that would force Pacquiao to fight him again but at this point I believe that the only way to do that would be to fight Casamayor. The problem I forsee is that Casamayor is looking strictly for a payday, one which I don't see Marquez giving him. Yes Marquez's stock rose after that fight but unfortunately I don't think enough to spark Casamayor's interest, though I think he's worthy of it. I think Casamayor is looking for one last big payday and then he's out, and Pacquiao's that big name. I doubt he even cares if he wins.

I wasnt reffering that It was your opinion that he would. Im simply stating that if you were JMM and you felt that you "dominated" Pacquiao in 2 fights. You are looking for a 3rd fight with him but Pacquiao jumps ship to a higher weight class but is still a fan favorite and expert pick to win against the title holders in that division. If you were JMM and heard and read all these things about Pac would you not be looking to beat another lightweight champ asap to force Pac to give you a rematch?? And besides. JMM beating Casamayor would make alot more sense than Pac beating Casamayor. If Pac beats him..Casamayor would be old and washed up. If JMM beats casamayor then it's a legitimate victory against a great and he would once again be the gatekeeper for another lineal title for Pac.

Because I'm looking beyond Manny Pacquiao in the lightweight division. There are some guys with serious power and durability in that division who could definetely hurt Marquez. I don't know if Marquez can bring power into that weightclass, and for the record, I don't think for one minute that Pacquiao will just "roll through" the lightweight division.

I'd definitely be down for a Marquez-Casamayor fight too! If he wins, it'd make a statement to Pacquiao like ShadeyFizzle said and the third bout would be unavoidable.
Looking past Pacquiao though (and assuming Casamayor first), I don't know what else Marquez would do. He'd be 35-36 by then and maybe thinking about retirement...unless he beats Pacquiao and can potentially make 2-3 more money fights.
He supposedly took Pacquiao who came into the fight a welterweight to school. He wants him real bad for a 3rd time. Why even question how effective you would be 5 lbs bigger when the guy you supposedly dominated is expected to roll right through everybody in that division??
