That dude is a straight up fucking tank, literally. He walks straight forward, taking the hardest punches you can imagine like they are nothing, and seriously throws more punches than anyone I have ever seen.
The guy who I hated most in boxing before last night has now made me a fan. Crazy.
I think he beats Cotto too.
Well let's not forget Cintron can't fight for shit on the inside. He never once tied up Margarito when he was hurt. That was a really dumb thing not to do.
And Williams definietly got the better of the fight between Margarito. Margarito is just like a wall so it never shows he's been in a fight. I couldn't believe the shots he was taking from cintron.
Still Cintron could have done more to beat Margarito. He was doing great for about a minute and a half of each round and then get destroyed, but Margarito still seems like he could be beat.
If anything moving around-boxing and taking a fighter like margarito out of his element so he can't land shit is really impressive to me. I just don't think people should get so hyped up over a performance that the guy easily dominated before.
It certainly didn't show that Margarito was #3 in the division. I bet he stays at 5.
Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but I really think your selling Margarito short. If he is only #5 then you must be rating Williams and Mosley over him, and they both lost their last fights. Sure he had already beaten Cintron, but nobody else had ever came close to beating him.
He got schooled by Williams.. Cotto can outbox him and schooled him worst than Williams..
MARGARITO DID'NT COME TO FIGHT AGAINST WILLIAMS THAT NIGHT, HE THOUGHT HE WOULD BREEZE RIGHT THREW WITH OTHER FIGHTS ON HIS MIND. HIS MINDSET NOW IS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH, MARG WOULD KNOCKOUT WILLIAMS IF THEY FOUGHT TODAY, IMO. COTTO VS MARGARITO WOULD BE A GOOD BATTLE, I'M NOT SURE WHO WOULD WIN, THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT IS WHEN THEY FIGHT IN JULY. PEOPLE ON HERE SHOULD STATE (IMO) MORE CAUSE I'M SURE NOONE CAN SEE THE FUTURE.:usa:

People shouldn't get too hyped up about it, but let his fans get excited...just think about how many people here were saying Cintron was going to get his revenge and KO Margarito.
Margarito does the best that he can with the skills that he has. He can be beaten of course, but he's a tough night for just about anyone.
BTW, I say he'd beat Williams pretty comfortably (maybe 116-112) in a rematch by starting to throw from round one. A Clottey rematch is warranted at some point too, and that one's a close call. Margarito started late in that one too, and even though Clottey broke his hand, didn't Margarito get hurt too? It'd be a good fight either way.
And I don't know who wins if he fights Cotto.

I just can't imagine a fighter who uses a style that could possibly be more warrior-like. He seriously reminds me of a tank that just keeps coming, never gets hurt, and has a massive offensive attack. He even has some really good power to go with his incredible workrate.
I still don't like him even after last night. He was good, but to me he has a bad resume and is slow. He'd lose to Cotto and Mayweather. He already lost to Williams.
One thing I am impressed with Margarito (other then his chin) is his infighting skills. No not that he can throw a lot of punches, but how he uses stuff like that sidestep last night and then banged away at Cintron from the side. When he stuck his arm out in the first cintron fight to measure the shot/back him up to the ropes/fuck up Cintron's vision.
Still I find him way too overrated and just because he beat Cintron again doesn't change my opinion on him.
Really the only fighter that runs away is Cory Spinks.
Yeah. If Cory didn't have a really sad personal story about his mother dying early, and his best friend/brother/father figure getting gunned down by gang members, I probably would really hate that dude.
Your boy Winky said it best::
"Its called boxing not knock outs"
I didn't say KOs. I don't even have a problem with feather fisters. I just don't particularly like the jab and move style.
What Floyd did to Baldomir, I am completely okay with. He didn't really run away. Maybe I phrased it wrong, because I still do enjoy slick fighters, but running away to avoid having to keep your opponent off with punches seems kind of lame.
Winky Wright does nothing even close to running away.
Watching a fighter like Margarito honestly does make me dislike the style of slickster a little.
It just seems kind of shitty in a sport dedicated to fighting that someone can win a match by landing a few and avoiding a lot, instead of actually engaging.
That's not to say that defense should go out the window, but jab/move, jab/move, jab/move does seem a little bit like winning through a loophole in the system, considering prizefighting is a sport that is dedicated to breaking the will and physicality of your opponent.
me to..i didnt like margarito untill last night..i use to say any ww would run through him but after last night he would give any ww or junior mid a problem..cotto schools him though
I agree with this topic, even after the Williams fight I didn't like Margarito too much
and starting too late or not vs P-Will Marg still got outclasses in the first 6 rounds or so based on Williams jab and movement
all in all though it was still a close fight .. and Margarito did come on strong in the later rounds.
losing 8-4 7-5 and 7-5 isn't exactly horrible.
but back to topic, I agree Cintron-Margarito 2 was very exciting to watch, and going into the Cotto fight in July
I'd actually give the momentum to Margarito. he had the harder test in Cintron, not to mention fought an extra round and got hit more then Cotto.
and if he can get Cotto to brawl with him .. assuming his chin/body hold up could realistically win.
then again it is very hard to say, because as "questionable" as Cotto's chin is as a Welterweight .. he's yet to be dropped at 147.
He got schooled by Williams.. Cotto can outbox him and schooled him worst than Williams..
If getting schooled mean losing by two points, well then I guess he got schooled. :ugh:
He got schooled by Williams.. Cotto can outbox him and schooled him worst than Williams..
He lost because he started late, and that is all there is too it. Just like Hopkins did when he lost to Taylor in the first fight. Who got the better of the other if it wasn't judged round-by-round? Williams or Margarito? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't the guy who got the decision.
i agree that margarito is tough, keeps going forward no matter what and keeps throwing punches nonstop. against cotto it will be a very even fight, but i think cottos left jab (well, is more a straight than a jab =P ) is going to be an important advantage for him. cintron was doing his best when he was using the jab and keeping distance. of course cotto wont be fighting at distance, but against mosley and gomez he landed that jab all night long, and against margarito it should be the same.
but if margarito fights against mayweather, i think he has very little chance. mayweather would stay on the outside all the fight, and margarito wont be able to catch him. he isnt very fast, and mayweathers speed and agility would be too much for him. mayweather will never get on an infight against him like cintron did.
Same thing happened with me and Cotto.. there was a time where I wasn't a fan of the guy and didn't like him. It's hard not to like the guy though when he faces anyone you put infront of him fights more then twice a year and is very entertaining!

i did'nt hate Margarito but i deffo fell into the trend of Margarito bashing like many others ,and i feel like a cunt now because he is a really good fighter
he may beat Cotto but im keeping my fingers crossed that he dont when they do meet cause Cotto is my Fav fighter active today
his fight agaisnt paul willaims was pretty good and it was close with marg coming on strong at the end. however guys liek clottey will fuck margarito up, josh was slapping that ass around till he hurt his hand, i give marg a good chance against cotto cause on his toughness and power, however cotto is such a fucking monster his power, body work might even be able to over come the tank that is tony margarito

It's good that you can see the fighter past his fans. Margarito is a lot of fun to watch fight.

I think if youre an unbiased poster on here, you hate him by default because his fans go overboard with the hype. Outside of this board, i dont see how you cant be a fan, he is a straight forward guy who lacks some skills but willing to make a fight with anyone, and probably stands a good chance against anyone.
