This clown and his pillow fists who never achieved anything as boxer.
I hope Josh is taking notes of all these folks
He achieved a world title and is good behind the mic.
is that why Golovkin is relentlessly pursuing him... ?
when it became obvious that Kovalev was rubbish... is that why Golovkin relentlessly pursued him... ?
lol
it only became obvious that Kovalev was rubbish AFTER Canelo selected him LMAOYou are a strange fella.
Yes.
The guy ducked all the best fighters in their prime when he fighting, I really don't think he will break a habit of lifetime and start fighting the top fighters in their prime.
But if he did, he would get schooled and KOed.
Spence was busting him up in sparring 4 years ago.
He did fight some monsters! Judah and Hatton. A pre-doping Canelo. He was a bad dude early 2000s as well.
Always look forward to the Mailbag. I appreciated Bread's thoughts regarding quitting, I am of the same opinion. Often times when a fighter has had the fight beat out of him he is labeled a quitter which I do not agree with.
I can't imagine the amount of negativity that came Bread's way after JRock's loss. People always come out of the woodwork when someone gets knocked down. I'm sure there will comments after my post that will be reveling in Bread and JRock's defeat. The internet can both be a great and nasty experience.
Thanks for another good Mailbag Bread.Thinking the same thing. Well said!
The UFC put on solid fight cards and the best fight the best. It's one business working with one tv network. Too many working parts in the business of boxing to make big changes take place. The man works hard to make fans happy.
Hello Breadman.. hope you are doing well.
Your column is one of my Saturday morning staples before my meditation.. LOL
My question to you is if You could..how might you change the judging system.
Your thoughts of ways to possibly improve the judging system which we all have had disagreements with decisions in the past.
1) Many major sports use Video and stil see the final outcome determined by a definitive points system..video and instant replay has allowed more accurate judging.
2) It seems to me that if someone is not knocked down the round will always be scored as a 10-9 when clearly the winner of the round was much more effective in that round then the ten nines in other rounds when it was very difficult to decide the winner.. I understand fighters in varying degrees need adjustment times in earlier rounds and need to be more cautious than other fighters in certain rounds especially earlier rounds because they know there is time to make up whatever they give away* But the system to me could be improved and sometimes is* inequitable and unfair and too subjective. And I think we would all agree that we have seen too many wild discrepancies between judges that makes this an obvious point. It almost makes an oxymoron of the statements if it ain't broke don't fix it ... And the definition of insanity.
my first question is why do we have to have a winner of a round when clearly the round is even or it's a feel out round from the loser and he didn't appear to be in any kind of trouble but yet we always need a 10 9 winner.. since there are 10 points to play with what is this need to only basically use two points of the 10 even when there is a knock down? If we ask somebody what a girl looks like on a scale of 1 to 10 they would use a broad range to say a girl was a six and if she was really good looking they would say nine. why can't we do the same in boxing? To illustrate my point I was watching Joe Louis Max Baer the other day and Joe Louis was obviously destroying Max Baer with a lethal jab and I'm sure the judges only gave him a 10-9 round even though Max Baer wasn't knocked off his feet* I would have clearly given Joe Lewis a 10-8 round for what he was doing to Max Baer and if Max Baer happened to win the first round they would have given him a 10-9 the same as what they gave Joe Louis for destroying Max Baer in the early rounds with his jab and right cross..what would you think of the idea of a judge at the end of the fight awarding an extra point to who they felt overall won the fight I think judges do that anyway unconsciously or purposely because they want to award the proper winner and they realize they have to make up for it. If they change the scoring system to allow more than two points I think it would eliminate a lot of that.
The point you made about Canelo's punches having a certain sound to them is a great one and I also think that a fighter has a certain beauty or visual effect on the judges AKA Muhammad Ali's extremely beautiful style but how do we judge the power of a punch how do we judge a jab over a body punch it appears when someone is trapped or allows themselves to be on the ropes and getting pounded one or two jabs or crosses to the face even though not as powerful evens out a round maybe
unfairly who knows ..maybe that's why you see more fighters head-hunting and if they do go to the body they make it a display for the judges AKA Leonard early rounds against hearns when that was the only thing he dared to do beside circling and moving away.
J Rocks title-winning performance against Hurd slipping and throwing punches on the inside but in the second fight visually the other fighter seemed to be more in control than JRock was with Hurd..JRock to me was not as confident.* I wonder what the points were before the stoppage and what influence confidence displayed by The fighter had on the scoring. Another example was the second Canelo GGG fight was similar GGG was not as confident although I think the fight was at least a draw because I think he landed more then canelo and yes I am a GGG fan.
Always respect your thoughts what do you think?
Richard in TampaHe doesn't read comments so best to email the mailbag.
Man, GTFOH
Bread says it simple & plain.
Unless somebody TESTS POSITIVE or gets caught with steroids, he won't go in on him.
He believes and so do most of us that his guy J-Rock got beat by a roided up Charlo, yet Bread hasn't ONCE called Charlo a cheater, even though he has said that J-Rock won't fight anybody without VADA testing 3 months out anymore.
All he's said is that there's been smoke around Pac, but there's no proof.
Same thing he says about everybody else until they flunk a test or get caught.
And?
Hearns/Hagler's one of the greatest fights ever and it only lasted 3 rounds.
Learn about boxing son.
J-Rock was acquitting himself well against a dude, most of us think was roided up and got caught.
It happens.Well said!!!
yeah well kids today do skull breaker challengers and lick ice cream and put it back in the store freezer, so kids today are pretty deficient in the mental capacity, I can only assume that deficit is going to be exploited by easier and lazier means.
Lol!!!!!!!!
