Peter needs to get in shape
If he wants to have a chance against any of the real heavyweights. Let's face it, Oleg was 38 going on 51. While Peter's closing power was impressive, he did still get hit quite a bit. It will be interesting to see how he does against another fighter than barely ever fights.
I think we have to keep in mind Green was weeks away from major surgery during their first fight. However, I still have to believe we can do better than this for an HBO fight. I have no desire to see a rematch of that fight. Despite the fact that Green appears to be in better health, he still seems to have some mental issues in the ring.
Agreed. Berto will destroy Rodriguez. Are we sure it's Delvin Rodriguez? I guess it must be, who else would even be close to eligible for a title eliminator. Then again, who knows these days.
I think we should be somewhat concerned as fans of the sport. From what we've seen so far, a lot of the young prospects that are supposed to be on the path to superstardom (ie Lee, Katsidis, Diaz) have faltered recently. However, there are a lot of fighters in the low to mid 20's who should step up to fill the gap. Gamboa, Khan, Fields, Linares and others come to mind. We are set to lose a lot of great champions in the next year or so.
I'd like to see more of Valero. Everyone keeps saying he's overrated, but Id still like to see him step up against some stiffer competition. Unfortunately, he can't fight in the US so that may prevent him from getting the bigger fights.
I agree. Lee should been able to get rid of Vera in the middle rounds. I've been looking forward to this ESPN Friday Night Fights for a long time. I hope it doesn't disappoint. It is one of their better shows of the year. I think Aaron Pryor's son is on the card as well.
Vera's not a pushover, but it would be extremely disappointing if Lee lost this one. I have to think his last performance was just a bad night. He looked a little rough around the edges. Hopefully, he comes out strong on Friday. Boxing could use another big time Irish fighter now that Duddy was semi-exposed.
I agree. This is a no brainer. I've seen Tarver fight 5 times and it's been 5 times too many. Although I'm intrigued by Dawson-Johnson, HBO is the place to be on Saturday night!
Johnson hurt Dawson twice. Dawson never hurt Johnson. Johnson pushed the action all night. The fact that all judges had the scores exactly the same is ridiculous.
I think Glen has a good shot to win this fight. Dawson hasn't been in there with anywhere near the competition Johnson has. Regardless, if you're a betting man, you have to like the fact you can get Johnson at almost 3-1. I think this is close to a 50-50 fight.
If Vitali's in any kind of shape, it will be interesting, because Vitali will knock him out early. Peter was gassed after two rounds against Maskaev. Imagine what a fighter under the age of 45 would do.
My guess is they will put Abraham in against somebody with a recognizable name in the US. If they don't, what does the fight do for Abraham. If he fights an unknown and struggles, does that jeopardize Pavlik-Abraham like it did Pavlik-Duddy? I would love to see Abraham-Duddy. Duddy doesn't deserve it, but it would still be an entertaining fight and have a big following
Man, another disappointing blow to the heavyweight division. Peter fights another has been that hasn't fought in years, and Vlad fights who for the rest of the year? I see him having another wasted year now. Here's hoping David Haye breathes some life into this division.
