we are gonna lose alot of great, and good fighters to retirement in the next few years. it is gonna be sad, and create a large void in boxing. i mean we can make a huge list of guys on the brink of leaving. i wonder how much it will affect the sport, and us when we have no bhop, calzaghe, jones, tarver, etc......... to talk about upcoming fights, and look forward to watching/debating here. wow, it is actually a big let down for me the more i think about it.
someone new will always come along. worse or better, only time can answer that. but there will always be another guy next to the guy willing to step down
Calzaghe- will not rertire soon
Hopkins- would lose to Calzaghe and he is getting old
De La Hoya- if he's not fighting Trinidad i don,t want him on the ring
Tarver- he beat Roy and...he sux!!!!
Woods- he is old news
Jones- should retire in good helth
Johnson- he sux
Mayweather- neez to fight Cotto first!
I'm not worry about them, when they leave someone else will come and fill the gap!!!!
I think we should be somewhat concerned as fans of the sport. From what we've seen so far, a lot of the young prospects that are supposed to be on the path to superstardom (ie Lee, Katsidis, Diaz) have faltered recently. However, there are a lot of fighters in the low to mid 20's who should step up to fill the gap. Gamboa, Khan, Fields, Linares and others come to mind. We are set to lose a lot of great champions in the next year or so.
Yeah I made a topic about this last year. Calzaghe, Hopkins, De Le Hoya, Tarver, Woods, Jones, Johnson and Mayweather (if you believe him) are all looking to retire within the next 24 or so months.
