Even a light punching Floyd will hurt the mma guy on his chin.
That sport is all about grappling not stand up and punching. They don't have whiskers, they all wilt when their chins get touched.
If this promo garbage gets put together and anyone other than mma fans buy it it just shows how ignorant todays boxing fans are and how smart little Floyd is. He fights a nobody in boxing and makes millions. A total joke!
Ray
MMA isn't just all about grappling. And don't be so hasty on the "whiskers" thing. Boxing, Kickboxing, MMA. Just the right touch, anyone can wilt. If you think MMA is zero about stand-up and punching and that they all wilt when chins get checked, then you don't really know the sport.
I can see where you're coming from on your distaste for May vs. Mac. Personally, even if I am curious to see it, I'm indifferent on if this fight actually happens or not. Plus it's an obvious money grab for both men so it's been apparent "how smart little Floyd is".
Some fair points made here. Some just plain ignorant. I agree that it's going to be harder for a MMArtist to transition to Boxing. Boxing is more pure and years are spent perfecting the craft (punching). MMArtists train in many facets of the fight game that transitioning to Boxing on an elite level would be VERY difficult (if possible). However, some of you need to chill with thinking that MMA is really simple and has a low quality of athletes (which is already stupid to say when many of them are coming from different martial art backgrounds).
What Tyson Fury said is also stupid. Might as well have people say:
"MMA is for people who can't do Judo."
"MMA is for people who can't cut it in Muay Thai."
"MMA is for people who can't cut it in ."
Two different sports. No surprise a Mixed Martial Artist will rarely (if ever) find huge success transitioning to Boxing (hell, even pure BJJ, kickboxing, Wushu, etc. for that matter). But that doesn't make MMArtists bums. The whole "people do MMA because they can't hack it in Boxing" is an old, ignorant argument. What about the MMArtists that never had a Boxing career? Or do you assume that Boxing is ALL pro fighters' first choice and what they should strive for? Gtfoh.
And for those who say MMA is just "dudes wrestling their crotches in each others faces"... What about boxing's "hugfests" and/or "marathons"? A lot of the same people who are ready to defend those things by saying "Y'all are ignorant, you just don't see the technique and science of it all" will be hypocrites and turnaround and call the grappling "crotch play and man-humping" while staying close-minded to the fact that they're just applying their techniques, too. Abundant clinching and backpedaling in Boxing are no better that lay'n'prayings in MMA.
I agree that MMA Striking isn't as on par as with Elite Boxing, that just goes back to what's already been said. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean all striking in MMA is amateur, and for those who think that clearly haven't watched the sport enough. They are in there worrying about other methods of offense of their opponents. A major reason why Boxers are superior punchers is because they don't go in their training and/or fighting, worrying about kicks, knees, elbows, takedowns, and backfists.
As far as personal preferences go, it's fine that everybody has theirs. I enjoy both sports and can watch them long after the casuals move onto something else. But some of the criticisms here are just baffling and lack substance.

Cain was getting tagged by a WWE actor who had been an mma fighter for two days in Lesnar. :lol1:
A modern day Goliath/Achilles in Fury would take his soul.
...yet Cain won that fight and took the belt.
As far as Fury vs Cain. Hey, I like Fury's chances in a BOXING ring. Outside of it...well it's HIS soul he should worry about.
mma is a sport for pansy's who can't box
it takes very little skill to have success in mma thats why a WWE star can become a champion
If you're serious, educate yourself IMMENSELY or just read these articles and keep your idiotic comments to yourself and don't post them.
BUT if you're just trollin' then disregard the above message. I just have to say that because your comment reeked of so much ignorance, it's very possible that you're just bored and wanted to troll to get a rise out of people and you don't really mean what you said.
A-Near Con is the true real life version of Glass Joe from Mike Tyson Punchout game lol. His jaw is certified grade A burglar theft window glass lol.
:rofl::rofl:
Same UFC motto : use Boxing or Boxers to hype your sport/athlete .
Funny. I don't remember boxers being responsible for their splash in '05, nor their growth thereafter, let alone being able to be worth being bought for $4 billion :dunno:
"Canelo Vows: Austin Trout's Belt Belongs To My Brother"
Uh. No it doesn't. Trout won it fair and square.
If Canelo wins it, would he give it back to him? (not a serious question)
Anyway, I agree with some of you when you say this "for my brother" angle is getting played out. I remember at one point he said he wasn't even thinking about revenge when facing Trout. Just another fight for a belt. So hearing him say it like crazy now is making me raise an eyebrow.
No hate intended though. Looking forward to Saturday :boxing:
the ufc stays relevant by mentioning floyds name.. pitiful.
Smh. These "UFC mentions Floyd's name to stay relevant" comments and others similar are what's pitiful...
:lol1::lol1::lol1:
These fools will learn to keep Floyd's name off their lips one day.
So when the media asks Floyd about UFC, "Hey he's just giving an opinion. Floyd's clever".
But when the media asks UFC about Floyd, suddenly all responses aren't opinions, they're desperate for relevancy? Should they have just said "no comment"? Naah then dudes like you would just pull out things like "They ain't sayin' nothin' 'cuz they scared of Floyd". Haters gonna hate I guess.
With all the hate Floyd gets, you'd think he'd shrug off this honest opinion (with no disrespect intended might I add) and move on. Then again, when has he ever? What, Ward can't root for his boy because he's fighting him? If that's the case, then that's some ****ed up sense of entitlement. And sure Ward calling himself "Son of God" can raise a few eyebrows in a "uh we're ALL a child of God in his eyes" sort of way, but in the end he's a grown ass man and can use whatever nickname he wants (okay not just ANY nickname, but you get it), so it's not Floyd's problem. There was no need for the whole "God doesn't pick sides, men beat others then worship on Sunday, etc." lecture. Does Ward pray to God to annihilate an opponent? Did Ward ever step in the ring and claim to be a pastor? Does he have to be? And what the hell does Broner, not a lot of people knowing Ward is a medalist, and how much tickets are sold and money made have to do with anything?
Long story short, Floyd's talking out of his ass on this one and he may be oversensitive about something :bottle:
Smh. Roach's ****-talking and disrespect to a kind (maybe) act is just begging for Karma to make his fighter lose. If Karma comes through, kiss your hopes for a Mayweather bout "Goodbye", Manny.
Chuck's a cool guy but I don't know about this trilogy thing with Ortiz. The UFC is getting more and more desperate.
What're you talking about? UFC isn't even promoting this event...
Connor is loved/popular
floyd is hated/popular
...thats the difference to me...also floyd worked for his nearly full career..conner has 20 fights and they praise him beyond measure..
being a floyd supporter means u are going against the grain..u get that right?
being a connor fan is like "im a badass" and he's a badass too...but its the popular thing to do compared to how i call being a floyd fan "going against the grain"
if floyd beat an aldo ppl would say "aldo is always injured, he's washed up, blah blah and blah"...instead they said "aldo is scared of conner so the dropped outdue to injury." ...it it was floyd they would say "floyd is only fighin him bc he knows he is washed up and injured..."
AM I LYING OR WAT? if u dont see it u just arent follwing this enough
What's with this "against the grain" nonsense? Do you not realize how many celebrity fans Floyd has and how much they pay to watch him? You make no sense. A fan is a fan. Sure there will be "nut-huggers", "sensible, respectful ones, and in between, but you're not proving your point on where the prejudice lies.
Get outta here. Aldo was undefeated for 10 years and was considered Top 2 P4P and the only UFC Featherweight champion at the time. Yeah he's been injured, but washed up after one loss (at 29 even)? Floyd's not even a mixed martial artist so why would anyone even think of a scenario where he beats Aldo? Only you I guess. Still think I don't follow things enough? Conor has been bashed for fighting lower competition, then when he beat Mendes (who people said would give Conor trouble because he never faced a wrestler), people said "Naah that's because Mendes had a 2 week training camp". People are gonna hate, man. You can't keep saying if it's this guy, it's this, if it's that guy, it's that.
Floyd and Conor get their hate. Both have received it because of their own doing. Both have been criticized (and still are). Is the hate different? Sure it can be argued. Because of prejudice? No. I''ll say you're probably not "lying" per say, but you really are buying into your BS. Floyd focuses more on negativity than the praises he has received. And on top of that, acts like most, if not all, of the negativity he does receive is undeserved and that he didn't bring it on himself. For a guy who embraces the villain role, he sure takes an issue when someone else is one and points out the criticism he claims to ignore when it suits him. Then here comes guys like you backing this "Racism" claim, turning a blind eye to the instances Floyd said UFC is for "white beer drinkers" and beating a Filipino guy, calling him yellow, then go on about forcing him to make sushi. Floyd can't even be racist right, now he's gonna complain about racism? Gtfoh.
Lara landed more punches, but began to simply run when he couldn't get a decent setup because Canelo's pressure began to make him uncomfortable and he controlled the ring in a lot of the rounds. Hardly any adjustments from both fighters. For me this fight could've gone either way. However Levi Martinez's score was too wide. If there is a rematch and Lara does the same thing he did in this fight in the next like he says he will, he's not guaranteed a win. Especially when judges have a different ways of seeing things..but that's no secret.
Kind of sad watching the UFC 'warriors' beg shamelessly at boxings table.
It's funny seeing people turn a blind eye when a boxer mentions MMA fighters, but when it's vice-versa all of a sudden they're "beggars" :pat:
Ah the "I'm just being myself" card. It's not a bad card, but it just so happens to be a classic go-to move for a lot of douchebags (like Broner) at the same time. Hey, if being an a$$hole is a part of who you are then just say so instead of shrugging your shoulders and playing it off, wondering why people think you're "the bad guy". If he's trolling, then he's trolling. But if he honestly thinks he gets a bad rap JUST for being "outspoken" and speaking his mind, then he's more stupid than I thought.
The real problem, or realism, is the context of the article.
Most people could agree and say, "Mayweather is correct, Leila Ali should've been decorated in media hype or sex symbolism like Rousey, but we can't be 100% correct it's because of racism. "
Racism and favoritism could go hand in hand if we are honest about things.
My response was more towards that one poster's reply. Even so, it's kind of weird you only quote that particular part, as it wasn't even the whole point of my post. No matter. If you want to talk about the context of this article then fine.
Racism and favoritism can go hand to hand. No argument there. But we can't keep using "racism" for not being able to be 100% correct about something. As I said. Floyd took crap for his c0ckiness. Conor has, too, but why is it all of a sudden "prejudice" when he hears that there are people who who still like him? Floyd's considered by many, media especially, as P4P king and has been showered with praises. That sound like racism to you? Floyd pulls the race card unnecessarily. Even if he had fair suspicions, he still doesn't have valid points. What exactly was his problem with Shinsuke Yamanaka being #9 and Andre Ward being #4? What..."Racism"? What is his problem with Ward being No. 4 anyway? Not knocking Ward. #4 is still a decent place for someone who fought for the first time in about 2 years. So the guys who busted thier asses and fought during his absence and are on the rise (opinions on opposition aside) should take a backseat now that Ward is back? Ward is a bad dude. He'll keep winning.
If I wanted a mix of combat sports news I'd go to some other website. I come here to read strictly boxing news.
Let's see...article reads: "Cain Velasquez Backs Canelo To Defeat Mayweather"
Canelo and Mayweather = BOXERS
Backs Canelo to beat Mayweather in which sport? A: BOXING
Where article touches on the subject "mixed combat sports"? A: NOWHERE
...yeah I don't see what your problem is...
Now i'm just confused. One day he says he is planning on going back to 140, the next day they say his next opponent is jessica vergas and today he is saying he wants Floyd Mayweather Jr.
wich one is it manny?
He's BEEN wanting to fight Mayweather, man. Where have you been?
He talks more **** and does sh*t and then comes to knockpeople out and he will put on a show. He can do it, who else has that mouthpeice and fighting ability?
Mouthpiece? Probably nobody (doesn't get any more annoying than Broner). Fighting Ability? Relax. He's good. But not "deserves-more-than-40-mil-for-5-years" good.
I saw the 'scrumptious' description and googled her. I'm sure she's sweet....but she looks like Juan Manuel Marquez in the face *yuck*.
Damn. She does. I can't unsee it now after this comment lmao
