Trainer Jeff Mayweather, uncle of WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., believes so many people dislike his nephew because of the many ways he enjoys and flaunts his money. Mayweather is the considered to be the highest paid athlete in the world and he shows off his wealth with an army of high priced cars, private jets, jewelry and extravagant properties.
Because of that dislike, Jeff says a lot of people are rooting for Manny Pacquiao to become the first fighter to hand Mayweather a professional loss.
"I think the only theory is that so many people dislike Floyd because Floyd enjoys his money. He enjoys his money so much that he puts it in your face. He’s not saying, “Oh look at my money,” but people take it that way," Jeff told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
"People don’t realize that this man is risking his life every time he steps in the ring, he should be able to do what he wants to do with his money. You hate him because he has money? Is that really a reason to hate somebody? That’s the bottom line because you don’t have a reason to hate a guy just because he’s winning, you hate him because he fronts the fact that he has money."
