I was just watching that movie again today. I was there for the filming too, left me with some funny stories too.
I thought the flick was a little biased especially Baer's character in the movie, when in reality Baer was a nice guy.
As for Braddock he was a tough guy. I read a book on him too, if there are rockys in boxing he was one without a doubt. This is what reveals your character, not just in boxing but in all areas of life, you overcome the odds, roll the dice and smile in the face of danger. Jimmy pulled it off, great, heart warming inspiring story.
What happened to guys like Braddock? Today we got a bunch of Primadonnas running around who cant agree to split 60 million dollar purses because they are too greedy.
mayweather is talented, no one denies it, but his resume, and his current actions both in and outside of the ring, dont grant him that status. but you can keep telling yourself that.
i too think that Abraham could win by ko, that would be his only option. But at the same time Froch can withstand a good shot. This fight i believe would be the ultimate test of his chin. I cant think of another fighter at this weight who punches harder than Arthur.
with that said i dont think froch will be an easy customer.
I do agree but keep in mind that he is 24 and turned pro as a 200lb 18 year old as a HW. It's time right now 100%. He needs to step up in 2011, fight some top 10 guys and go for a title or my interest is gone.Look at the history of most heavyweight fighters who were already champions defending their titles by that age. The fact that he turned pro so young should have served him as a benefit, and the fact that he remained on the same level all these years is a good indicator that his opposition should have improved a long time ago. The more he stalls the worse it will be. I hope he makes good on his promise and gets into the mix as soon as possible.
The only plus that i can think of right now is that he's in shape. Good for him.
His right hand looked fine last weekend. the bodyshot he stopped the guy with seemed to literally lift the guys feet off the canvas. Hopefully he'll step it up in compitition his next fight or twoAnybody can look like a god against a complete nobody. I aint giving him any credit untill he steps up.
I blame him just as much as i blame the people in charge of his career. Sometimes a fighter needs to come out of his shell and tell his managers that he's sick of feeding on sloppy left overs and wants to have real fights. Boytsov is not fullfilling that responsibility.
with that many pro fights under his belt he's got the most padded record of any pro fighting right now, any pro who is recognizable at least.
i understand he had an injury but it's not like he was doing any big things before he hurt his hand. Most guys with that many pro fights are already defending their titles. Not being harsh just putting it out there.
There's a limit to how much time you can allow your management team to baby you, and in boytsov's case that limit has long been crossed.
Id have to go with Wladimir, he's got some sickening power when he decides to let his hands go.
Shavers could crack big ones in his prime, but honestly i believe that he's way overated in terms of punching power. People just keep repeating what others have said.
He had exceptional power in his right hand but it wasnt anything out of this world like so many people claim.
Ali says Shavers was the hardest hitter he fought, and he had a hell of a chin! Shavers shouldn't be dismissed so easily.Im not dismissing him easily, and i could care less about what another fighters says about his opponent's punching power. Ali also stated that foreman hit him hardest, fighters change their minds, and their words shouldnt be taken too seriously.
Ali was never hit by tyson, lewis, klitschko, morrison, bowe, tua, etc etc. Not necessairly stating that every single one of them punches harder than shavers, but maybe he'd have a different opinion if he was ever hit by them.
if i ever had an opportunity i would in a heartbeat.
This would be great because it would be much more different than your average date.
And just think, she will always remember you as that guy who took her to a boxing event, instead of the guy that went to a restraunt or a movie theatre. it's much more exciting and sexy.
girls like new experiences especially when it comes to dating.
Maybe but pound for pound Shavers might have hit harder.P4P has no relevance to reality. P4P with different weight, in different class, with different reach, with different height they wouldnt be the same fighters.
Shavers hit really hard, but there are fighters who hit harder, period, forget the P4P nonesense.
this really warranted a thread?
Like someone would give a shyt about about an opinion coming from someone who calls himself "Royce Da 5'9", and spits out f-bombs in 100 different ways because that the sole thing his mind is intellectually capable of doing in order to make a living.
is this even serious.
Id value most opinions from people on this site (some of whom know jack shyt about boxing) rather than listen to this clown.
get back in shape wont matter, as long as Klitschko is around he's got no chance in hell of becoming a champ
hell with anyone around rahman still wont get the belt, he's way past it, and he never was that committed to begin with.
mike needs to fukin man up and quit whining. There have been others who have gone through worse tragedies in life. Take a look at someone like George Chuvalo, the guy lost all his kids to drugs, his wife to suicide and he still smiles and acts mellow.
the guy is like a walking kleenex. Get over it and stop using press as a crying shoulder.
Wlad punches a lot harder...........this, Wladimir is a 2 handed puncher. he's got it all, the left hook, the right hand, and his jab alone is a power punch. haye has a right hand and no balls.
how many heavweights has Haye knocked out again?
I think both men have more than enough power to KO each other.of course they can, their chins do not match their power.
although i think wladimir has more of a chance of landing on Haye than the other way around, Wlad's defence is superb.
At Heavyweight Haye is still a fairly big puncher though and throws a lot more power shots than Wlad. But Wlads power is just immense even for such a big man.haye does have a punch but like we mentioned it's not on the level with Wladimir. If Wlad threw as many power shots as Haye he would send people to the morgue. im still amazed at how Purity and Brewster were able to eat up all those shots and come back at him. up untill he got knocked out, he brutalized them.
but haye himself wasnt able to finish Ruiz eventhough he threw everything but the fukin stool at him. i let that shyt slide because Ruiz can be tough when he wants too.
I still have no stream so I can't see this but if he's really coming out with Soljah Boy happy I'm missing the entrance.
link someone please.same here, no freaking links at all lol
if any1 got one, please pm
im kinda torn between this match up. My gut tells me that Dirrell will outbox this guy, use his speed, jab and get the hell out of there. But abraham is a tough dude, and he's always coming to destroy. never know what might happen once he stars swinging wide punches.
i dont think it's all as drastic as that. In reality i think that no promoter or manager would revel the true purse or the numbers that any given fight had made. Keeping that in mind i think that roy was paid, but he was paid around the same purse that an established up and coming fighter would make.
i wouldnt believe for a second, that roy or any fighter for that matter would go into the ring with a possibility that he will not be compensated
i think all of that talk about roy not making a penny just adds to all the dramatics surrounding the fight that no one cared for in the first place
nard isnt really a home run hitter, Roy's chin isnt really worldclass but i think w/e speed he got left will keep him outta harms way imo, he just needs to keep his ass off the ropes.
bert sugar is knowledgeable but he's extremely biased towards certain fighters he favors. w.e he's just a guy with a cigar and a hat, i dont take him seriously.
i actually think that roy has a surprise for us. the odds are large, but partly because people are stimulated by Nard's win over Pavlik, and turned off by Jone's ko loss to green.
lets be honest now if roy hadnt been knocked out by green, people would see this as a competitive fight.
whoever the winner is, i think it's in for a distance. and roy might actually upset hopkins
