"The sad thing about the fight is that Jones won’t make anything. Let’s assume for a second that the 6,792 in the building actually paid for their seats (we know that’s not true) and that the seats averaged $300 a ticket (a figure higher than reality). That would mean the gate was $2 million. If the expenses to rent the building and promote the fight were $1 million, that means $1 million is left. Now, let’s figure it sold 100,000 pay-per-views at $49.95 apiece. That’s about $5 million. They have to split 50 percent of that with the cable and satellite operators, so that leaves $2.498 million for themselves. Add the $1 million from the gate and the $2.498 million from the pay-per-view and you have $3.498 million in profit. Given that the contract called for the first $3.5 million in profit to go to Hopkins and Golden Boy, it’s almost certain Jones fought for nothing. Actual revenue will likely be far less than I’ve described above."

If this holds water, Jones will be losing a sixfigure sum on this fight as he's had expenses for trainers, sparringpartners, nutritionists, gymfacilities etc.
It really saddnes me. Nobody should fight for free let alone pay to be able to get in the ring.
The numbercrunchers who calculated this fight should be ashamed of themselves.
Dan Rafael actually commented on this issue even BEFORE the fight.
Here's a quote from him in an article dated April 1, 2010 (fight was April 3rd)
----------------
"To add insult to possible injury, Jones might not make any money from the fight. Despite the camps saying they have a 50-50 deal -- and 60-40 to the winner if it's a knockout -- do the math. Hopkins' side is supposed to get the first $3.5 million after the expenses are paid. Jones' side would get the next $3.5 million with the rest being split evenly. The problem? The fight might not generate even a first $3.5 million."

Meh.. I wouldnt listen to this. They got at least 200k PPV buys. Roy will get a few bucks.
I doubt he gets even the ppvs, I'm sure that alot of the ppv money goes to the shit-hole promoters.
who else has Golden boy screwed money wise?
seen that posted a few times today and was just wandering.
I wouldnt call that Golden boy screwing roy either, its just roy being stupid. I heard about the split before hand so im sure roy knew what he was getting into, and just overestimated how much money the fight would make. He could've said no.
I do wonder if Top Rank was the promoter of the card. And, a non Top Rank fighter fought a PPV main event and didn't get paid. How many people on here would be bashing Bob Arum for that?
i dont think it's all as drastic as that. In reality i think that no promoter or manager would revel the true purse or the numbers that any given fight had made. Keeping that in mind i think that roy was paid, but he was paid around the same purse that an established up and coming fighter would make.
i wouldnt believe for a second, that roy or any fighter for that matter would go into the ring with a possibility that he will not be compensated
i think all of that talk about roy not making a penny just adds to all the dramatics surrounding the fight that no one cared for in the first place
You know not of what you speak. Welcome to the untold misery of the promotional side of the business RJJ. When a fight doesn't sell well every gets paid but the promoter. When people bash promoters they quickly forget this fact.
I'm fairly certain Roy's team has considered the worst case scenario i financial terms. If there was even a small risk of not making money, they would have turned it down
