All of the scoring tonight was ridiculous really it was. Pavlik-Taylor was much closer than the cards showed i actually had Taylor win but by a single round but it could have gone either way tbh.
The Navarro scoring WTF?!
12 rounds to Navaro seriously?
They need a new system, i'm tired of seeing shit judges.
Seriously, I felt the same way about Pavlik-Taylor II. Only one Judge scored it close to what the fight really was (Jarman; 115-113). The fight could've gone either way, don't get me wrong Taylor lost this fight, but not by the lopsided scores the two other judges administered. I don't know what their criteria is anymore, and this bum Ledderman is horrible...Can you believe he had Paul Williams winning by 5 points against Quintana last week?? On Sat night he had Pavlik by 5-6 points as well. I don't get it, I just don't know what these judges look for in scoring each round.
I think Taylor did a hell of a job and was more poised and elusive than last time, but he didn't do enough to overwhelm the judges. However, only one judge saw the fight accurately (Jarman; 115-113), the two other judges scored a lopsided fight, which was not the case. It was very close and I felt like 3 rounds could've legitimately gone either way. Pavlik fought smart and, with the exception of a few flurries, was never backed up or in trouble. Plus, since he was the winner by TKO the first time, the burden was on Taylor to put pressure and prove something, and he did not do enough to execute that. It was a great fight and I enjoyed it because you really weren't sure who won until they read the scorecards.
When I think of ruthless conclusions, I always think of Ray Robinson at middleweight. The way he waxed off Randy Turpin in the rematch and how he ended Jake Lamotta's reign in the St. Valentine's Day Massace, those were classic and finalizing endings put on two very tough guys. Robinson pinned them to the ropes and landed unanswered blows like it was a liquidation sale on pain.
Joe Louis' revenge against Max Schmelling was also punishing. Schmelling was screaming in pain from a kidney punch and seemed to rock back from every punch.
Mike Tyson had some excellent finishes, but I'd say the Pinklon Thomas one was pretty bad. It's hard to really narrow down one guy who stood up to sustained punishment from Tyson, though.
Pacquiao is a highlight reel of finishes. The way he got Morales in the third fight was good, but I like the way he pursued Jorge Julio en route to the stoppage.
Julio Cesar Chavez's finishing flurry against Edwin Rosario was nice. That is the perfect way to finish a guy, head and body.
Aaron Pryor might take the cake with the way he dusted off Arguello in the first fight. It's hard to narrow down a more devastating sustained flurry than the one that happened in the 14th round.
Here are some that instantly come to mind:
Mercer demolishing Morrison
Allan Green putting Codrington through the ropes (brutal finish)
David Tua's relentless punishment of Ruiz after he'd already been KO'd.
Corrales finishing Castillo was pretty decent.
Alfaro needs several title defenses to even be thought as a opponent for juan diaz
I agree that a Diaz-Alfaro fight may be premature because of J. Diaz' status, and Alfaro is vertually unkown...but that's typically a dangerous mixture, and there's no doubt in my mind that Alfaro is physically, mentally, and experienced enough to fight Diaz tomorrow.
Mayorga-Cotto
Let me tell you guys something, Cotto-Mayweather sounds good for now, but if the Cotto-Mayorga fight happens, there's a good possibility that those talks will evaporate like Williams-Mayweather did. You might think I'm out of my mind, but just take this into account, Mayorga is bigger, stronger, and can take more punches than Ricardo Torres (the guy that exposed, and almost upset, Cotto for the first time) and they have the same style. Take a look at rounds 2,5, and 7 of the Cotto-Torres fight, and you'll understand my concern with this fight. Had that been Mayorga, Cotto would've not been able to sustain his punishment. Mayorga has been trading blows at 154+ for the past 5 years and at 147, he's gonna bludgeon people to death. I'm certain that Cotto's Puerto-Rican pride and heart is gonna want to make a statement and trade with Mayorga in the center of the ring--look what happened to Forrest. Not to mention, Cotto was also hurt by little ole Zab Judah. If Mayorga comes to fight like he has in the past, and like he did against a 180 lb Vargas, mark my words, it will end early for Cotto, and Money May will look elsewhere for a superfight.
