nate campbell was 24. sergio martinez was over 20. glenn johnson was 20-21. peter quillen started late only had 8 amaetur bouts. kevin johnson hw contender was almost 20. jose luis castillo was a late teen. tarver started late. michael bennett, yes he didnt make it as a pro but started boxing at 24 represented the US in 2000 olympics. there has been success boxers starting late
Thank u someone with ****in sense. WLAD IS FIGHTIN ON THE 10TH. and wlad has been wit manny since wat 2004. thats his guy he has to come 1st so his loyality is with wlad which is the right decision doesnt mean manny wont be training cotto again.
no comp its cotto. cotto was an olympican and hightly thought of prospect so alot of money was thown at him to be the next champion by top rank. he was making 6 figure title defenses at 140 while marquez came through the rankings the hard way making peanuts for a long time.
boxers win and lose.its part of life and the sport. i give khan alot of credit alot of guys wouldnt gotten up from the 1st KD. he tried he get his legs but just the better guy won tonight. and angel garcia? he wears his emotions on his sleeves nothin wrong wit dat.boxing is a mental game.
he tried to get into amir's head and to me he was successful and the other part was promoting it and the way he did made ppl turn their heads and tune in to watch da fight. **** talking= more asses in seats, more ppl tuning in. ali understood that, camacho did, hamed, mayweather and garcia's pops its part of the game love it or hate it... it works
My boxing coach(tony pep) is always praising him and saying he had the perfect blend of balance, solid stance as well as being mobile and economical with his footwork!
I never thought about it, until I was reading some hajime no ippo wikipidea and the character known as saeki "Speed Star" Takmua was said to be based on him and his somewhat of a minor character with like the BEST footwork!
thats cuz your coach knows what hes talking about.from when he turn pro up untill 1987 camacho had some of the best footwork you will ever see. and was the fastest handed fighter post leonard's retirement in 1982.some say it was rosario after that he became a potshot and grab fighter. to me it was way more than edwin rosario
watch the howard davis, vinny paz, greg haugan I and II. those were some really good fights those are after rosario. i believe it was the sex drugs and rocknroll type lifestyle by 88,89 it finally caught up to his legs and his lack of not making weight so earlier in his career was his ultimate downfall and its unfounate cuz at 130-135 was one of the best ive seen at that weight.
Are you saying all those guys cheated against Puerto Ricans? Pretty Salido wasn't fighting a Rican when he got busted. And if you wanna bring up cheating in general, you should look to the grand daddy of cheating: Luis Resto, a Puerto Rican.
thats wa i said about salido. it doesnt matter about nationality. look at trinidad handwraps as well. certain athletes are gona do certain things to get the upper hand no matter wat race
Ok this it just sad man, can you guys get yalls head out your azzes. If marga would of won would this thread been made? exactly..........
i actually read before the cintron-alvarez fight and i was gona post it that saturday and competely forgot
oh well its his ****ing kids. nobody elses business. fighters bring there kids to the ring and the arena all the ****ing time. arguello's son was there for pryor bouts. marvis frazier saw his dad against foreman live. lets calm down a lil bit.
calderon was able to use his legs and handspeed and keep the same pace for 12 rounds i think he beats segura in his prime. at 35-36 his legs are gone, his speed is decreased. but segura gets a lot of credit beating a boxer who never tasted defeat in a decade. plus can anybody respect calderon's power??? big difference margarito respects cotto's power.
its about heritage seeing your own and representin u in that ring. its pride and its not just ricans and mexicans rooting for their own. look at john duddy wen he fought with the irish and paulie malinaggi the italians. for the most part fans do root for the fighter that has the same heritage ethnic backround.
hes not a ww anymore. hes outgrew the weightclass. he looks sick coming in at the weighin. he comes in at 153-154. his conditioning is way better. it seems hes able to keep the pace strength and hand speed as the rounds go on.
rios is too big for hatton. hatton was very overrated as a fighter. his clam to fame is one fight with tszyu. i remember him getting tagged by carlos maussa CARLOS MAUSSA! rios dishes out punishment as well as take punishment and keep coming forward. you have to be a counterpuncher and boxe for all 12 rounds to beat this guy.ricky cant do that. ricky doesnt have the power to stop or hurt rios. 1st 4 rounds it wud be a war. i wud see bam bam breaking him down late TKO.
well Noons trains at the wild card and roach talks highly of him. hes not the best technically hes more of brawler but he does have pro boxing experience. nick diaz also trained wit freddie and roach says hes got very good skills. and if u watch diaz NOBODY goes to the body in mma like the diaz brothers. bj penn also is real good. slips shots like toney. and picks off shots well wen in his prime. not sayin hes toney so dont get ur panties moised.
st pierre sparrs with joachime alcine all the time and hes got an excellent jab and doubles it up real good . and of course anderson silva ****ing beast. theres others like marcus davis and chris lytle who both have around 20 pro boxing bouts under them. i dont know if frankie edgar has pro boxing bouts but he has excellent footwork, good hand speed, good angles.
also like other poster said certain things done in boxing u cant do in mma. mma have 4oz gloves. certain defenses just dont work due to the gloves
i hate doing these dream matches but ima join da club. mayweather is NOT beating hector camacho at 130-135. southpaw with the most ridiculous hand speed ive ever seen. the fastest man in boxing wen leonard retired. hector had soild pop kept u at bay at 130-135. even in the rosario bout, edwin was backing off at times he felt the sting. its unfounate hes remembered from wat he did from 1988 and on with da holding running and lackluster performances.wanabe fans or fans who took as punches as bobby chacon seem to forget how nasty he was from 1980-86,87 just wow
whitaker. he cleaned out the lightweight division and left no doubt who the best 135lb fighter. floyd didnt do that. there was fighters like a spadafora a 5'9 slick southpaw who would gave him all he cud handle and maybe beat him. whitaker moved up and still was dominated and you can make a case that he should of been undefeated when he fought trinidad. a lot of ppl like myself felt he beat dlh and the ramirez robbery and chavez draw was a joke. people dont kno buddy mcgirt and amzmuah nelson were no joke. nelson was wat 8-0 wen he fought salvador sanchez. and was a hell of champion.
just a different breed of fighters back then. i just dont see floyd staying undefeated at that era. for whitaker to stay at the top in that era with all the personal problems he had and to be in there with dlh and trinidad in their prime who were taking guys out at 147 they couldnt take him out amazing
i disagree with him on sergio's weight. he move to 160 cuz of the money and challenges. hes acutally makes 160 wit ease and according to sergio feels thats hes too small and sluggish at 168. if the money is right he cud go bk to 154 dude is a training beast.
judges usually go with the one whos coming forward and more active. very close and very gud fight both fighters brought it tonight. they were throwin bombs. hats to arroyo kid got a lot of heart and a really gud left hook. it goes to show you that even with 30 amaetur fights u can win and beat guys like hector sanchez who had a highlight amaetur career in PR. who wants it more and arroyo wanted a lil more. overall very good fight and performance from the two warriors
respectable but I do see the guy's point just a bit IMO it can be a bit annoying
how is it annoying if its positive to that individual? if it helps him get through hard camps then why cant use it. annoying is ppl ****ting on boxers for no reason.
how long ago was that?
i dont care if it was in 2000 it should b respected
that's camp but in about every step up fight he had he lost including his comeback fight against Perez.
its still training camp but its still hard workk he being called in by these fighters cant be that ****ing bad
he's a fan plain and simple and this is a messageboard to express your thoughts
i like certain fighters. but i never allowed that to shade realism. im fan of the fight game 1st and for most and watch every fight i cud watch and support my local fighters which every true fans should do.
messageboards are great i agree. u cud treaten someone. call everybody ***** and not recieve any consequences for any actions cuz the pc screen protects you
I know it's hard and I admit I get caught up in it to but don't take it personal
you have your opinions which we all entitled to. its respect that is not given to these fighters. 20-4 record or 4-20 respect them all.
get in the ring and try it out for urself see how much that person would suck ill find a fighter around your weight in Gleasons hes never been on tv and u wont know him but ill bet he will smash u period.
for a man who stands 5 foot tall and always out weighed by his opponet 15-20 lbs sometimes more he has shown to be one of the best pure boxers ive seen in the last 15 years. his footwok, angles hand speed but at 36 his legs arent under him anymore. reflexes the same way. its time for him to go hes got his health hes made money he could commentat fights.
can't be in the game for 25 years plus and be a fraud im sorry im not buying it. and hes been in corners of champions like patterson, lalonde, mcguigan i think dont take my word for it. it just his ways get old very demanding so boxers part ways with him. But the man knows the game inside and out if u dont think then ur a fool
Luis has done way enough time. he went to jail and paid his debt.theres was others involved. hes been through enough already. collin's wife forgave him. if collins was alive i think he would to. give him his license so he could make a living. he shouldnt pay for the rest of his life.
if this was 2000,2001 he would have a right to be on tv. he was legit coming out of the olympics and was a hell of a boxer at 112. but hes old man. barely got by over the hill jerry penolosa so idk hes just tryin to cash in before retirement
it doesnt matter weather they are american based mexicans or puerto ricans. they are who they. not gona let some hibaro from the mountains say wat and who they are.
Its a great rivarly. and when both go one on one in boxing. when done right they create beautiful art
even though i consider myself nuyorican pero yo soy Boricua and 100% proud cant tell me otherwise and i wouldnt trade it for the world
