So I'm home a bit bored, not interested on watching any of my recorded fight (bunch of them) so there I am browsing TV and there it is in Showtime "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons 2" MMA. So I say: "hey, let's give a try".
So before the fighters come in, the commentators start saying that both fighters are extremely good boxers with Pro experience and that they where fast and very defensive crafted fighters. So then I go "Hell Yeah!!, Nice"
The fight starts :grumpy:
OMG do these guys suck, all wide punches no straight what so ever, No movement , very craaapy jabs.
Come on!!!! how hard is to learn a little boxing :Flush:
My bad guys no disrespect to MMA but this fight it self was disrespectful for boxers and boxing fans LOL
i think edson barboza has alright punching technique
also jose aldo when he wants(i think)
but most of them are a joke
and if im thinking of the right diaz, nick diaz is a fukin joke with his punches, slow as fuk, cringe worthy technique and no head movement, his footwork is also like he has his feet in cement blocks
the gloves give advantages. You can no longer put up a tight guard and shell up like in boxing. Those gloves will just slip through the holes and put you on your ass. Oh and there is not standing 8, you simply continue to get your ass beat till you go out. So many fundamentals of boxing changes when in mma because of this advantage. New angles = different looking punches.
Anyways. KJ Noons is also a professional boxer. And Nick Diaz is good enough to train with Andre Ward.
So, you're misled sir.
anyone can turn pro, to achieve somehting or to be able to support yourself is entirely diffrent. kj noons is garbage, nick diaz is a beats in terms of stamina, toughness and workrate but skillwise he doesnt know how to box either. i figure they throw him in there with ward just to get used to wild, crazy fighters.
and keep in mind he never used diaz for pre fight sparring, just everyday work. in gyms you sparr anyone when you dont have a fight coming up, i sparred with guys who won medals at world championships, olympians etc, never when they were preparing to fight though. i also sparred with little kids and girls, same thing there, never when i have a fight coming up. to have just sparred with someone at any given time doesnt mean anything.
i agree the glove size gives an advantage to boxers but its not like it matters, look at their elbows. 99% of the fighters in mma have their foreamrs in a more horizontal than vertical line, im not even kidding. they literally dont protect their body at all yet their oponents are too dumb to capitalize on it, they just keep headhunting even though the body is completely exposed. regardless of what gloves they use they simply dont have the skills to block and parry punches.
with the small gloves they should have really good headmovemnt and footwork to compensate, yet they all fight in straight lines and hardly anyone knows how to move their head. hell half the fighters in mma dont even keep their chin down. boxing skills simply dont exist in mma, just be real about it.
im not saying they cant do anything, they have some world class wrestlers and bjj grapplers in there. but thats all these guys know, the ground. nobody can fight on their feet especially with their hands.
Dude you are missing the point. there they are commentators and fighters talking how good they are in boxing....
Reality----> they all really looked so amateurish not even one decent punch
now you got Silva, there is a guy I would really like to see him fight again. :boxing:
I wouldn't say they're good in boxing. Nick Diaz is just good with his hands and very accurate. He likes to put pressure on his opponents and he usually outlasts his opponents when it comes to stamina. It's just Nick Diaz's movement is too linear. He walks towards his opponents in a straight line which made it easy for Condit to escape through the sides.
You also have to realize the "boxing" in MMA is different from actual boxing. The stance and guard in MMA isn't going to be as tight because they have to watch out for takedowns. The distance is also going to be a bigger obstacle because they have to be aware of the kick range. And you can't really cut corners in an 8 sided Octagon.
the truth of the matter is there are no really great boxers in mma, but the two sports are so different that shouldnt surprise anyone. but i hate looking at mma striking. it makes me cringe at how bad and sloppy it usually is, but anderson silva would have made a great boxer imo.
well Noons trains at the wild card and roach talks highly of him. hes not the best technically hes more of brawler but he does have pro boxing experience. nick diaz also trained wit freddie and roach says hes got very good skills. and if u watch diaz NOBODY goes to the body in mma like the diaz brothers. bj penn also is real good. slips shots like toney. and picks off shots well wen in his prime. not sayin hes toney so dont get ur panties moised.
st pierre sparrs with joachime alcine all the time and hes got an excellent jab and doubles it up real good . and of course anderson silva ****ing beast. theres others like marcus davis and chris lytle who both have around 20 pro boxing bouts under them. i dont know if frankie edgar has pro boxing bouts but he has excellent footwork, good hand speed, good angles.
also like other poster said certain things done in boxing u cant do in mma. mma have 4oz gloves. certain defenses just dont work due to the gloves
Go search it up then. I never said Noons was great but he is also a licensed boxer.
And Nick Diaz lives in Stockton. Oakland ain't that far away. He has trained with Andre Ward.

Most definitively!!! I want to see that guy fight, when he fights again?
what do you expect? there MMA fighters not boxers and Nick comes from a jiu jitsu background he didn't train boxing since a child or in the amateurs
They should really learn their boxing, it will help them end a fight a hell of lot quickly. :boxing:
MMA fighters dont know great boxing?
Since when?
LOL Ohh men!! I was so mad :purity:
I was yelling Come ON!!!!! one straight right while faking jab to the body .
Oh and on the interview: Diaz: "I beat Diaz in a boxing fight" :puke:
