I didn't saw the fight, but it seems "the strategy" to beat Trout didn't work.... or the guy was just simply too big and young. Eager to see if those "moments" Cotto has was boxing more that getting inside. I saw a strategy on Margarito and in some rounds against Mayweather, but every time Cotto wanted to rely only on power it was just wrong (I.e. he didn't do that against Mosley). So it seems no torso or lateral movements again? Just, "I want to KO Trout"? Well, it didn't work! Congrats Trout!

Cotto is a true warrior and I am a ride or die fan of his for life but this fight gave us a great idea of what would've happened to Cotto against Martinez. Martinez would've crushed Cotto probably within 5-7 rounds!!!! Last night's fight was a true jr.middle-wt vs a true welter-wt. Gotta love Cotto but Trout wasn't a good opponent for him especially at this stage of Cotto's career. Indeed, I don't see Cotto wining Martinez as this guy is like Pacquiao at 160. ...and Cotto wining Canelo? I doubt it.. unless pure boxing & great movements are applied, there must be no KO on Cotto's mind!

Yeah you know I think Cotto has improved in many areas including keeping his intensity and not staying at ropes / being more elusive.... this is also one of the best adjustment. Mosely is talking about his experience... before Cotto changed trainer... 9 fights before this one. The non-aggressive style of May favors Cotto. Also, lets see if Cotto will be able to maintain the intensity thru 12 rounds to have a better chance against May. It will be a very good fight... probably a very close UD or SD to May.

Great discussions here... I think what happened to Cotto was that he could simply no followed the game plan entirely and tried to KO Trout. The "KO only route" is a demon he sadly still need to fight at this stage on his career. Some time ago he admitted get accustomed to KO guys and forgot boxing. There are a couple of rounds in the middle that Cotto boxed moving around Trout and was successful. Curiously, similar to some great rounds against May... and what I think was most of his style against Mosley. At Margarito II, he followed the plan (a different one) most of the fight, but there were several occasions when he did not follow Pedro's advice and wanted to exchange.... so the chance this happened here still on my mind, probably because he thought Trout was another step stone. We should not forget either what Trout said... there are not too many videos or fights out there "to study me", so the chance of having a great plan diminished... only stay strong the chance to adapt quickly... and here Pedro is a rookie... and Cotto still a fuqqin stubborn to fix himself. ...of course, all said by no means discredit Trout's victory. Congrats to him and their team!

Yeah, a punch that was shown here on video in a sparring session of Marquez in which he was working on that exact move, that also dropped his sparring partner, was 'lucky'. Do you understand that? Marquez was shown dropping his sparring partner with the exact punch, an identical sequence to what happened in the fight, weeks ago. This is what they train for and it's what Marquez had prepared himself to do in that situation. JMM has an extraordinary career... if he does not return, his legacy will be never forgotten. He is a true warrior and great gentleman! If me, I would not return... but money talks and double digit millions is not an easy task to overlook.

I agree, great point. I would rather Trout get the shot he deserves at Canelo, but treating Cotto likes he's done after losing a tough fight is just why we don't get these kind of fights. It's not Canelo's fault fights with PWill, Kirkland,or Ortiz (finally some risky fights) fell through, but it's time for Canelo to have one and Cotto would just be a name for Canelo at this point.. I agree with both of you... we all knew this was a risky fight , but whats the point of some guys telling Cotto is over but at the same time criticize that some boxers picks their opponents? Cotto trusted himself, took a risky fight, loose in what seems a legit way... Don't we like guys have the balls to fight whatever is available? Great fight! I don't think Cotto won convincingly, but I do think it was close... and the money prevailed all those close rounds for a final UD decision for Floyd. What I didn't like about how Cotto fought, was the lack of reaction to overcome the obvious exploited flaw... right hand over defense... Did anyone saw Cotto move his torso like in other fights? ...and also by not starting or alternating more with/to the defensive mode (like in Margarito's fight) that worked so great in middle rounds (thats a Pedro's error). It seemed Cotto's only plan was to KO Floyd and missed some of his movements just to war and to get the KO... another Pedro's error I believe because Floyd is freaking elusive... and Cotto's power punches aren't fast, except his jab that was the only punch that did serious damage to Floyd... not capitalizing more on that, was Pedro's error... That will be exploited by Pac with his straight power punches ;-) I believe Pac could bring some problems if he go in-out putting Floyd against the ropes... and oohh,,, quite obvious, Floyd is ALSO getting old! Even besides all I mentioned, awesome fight for Cotto.... it was a WAR! First "true" lost to another great fighter! I am ok with the results... mi support for Cotto still intact. A perfectly timed punch and the fact that Pac was coming in fast when he met it made for a brutal knockout. It's was like 2 trains on the same track coming toward each other and had absolutely nothing to do with JMM being juiced as some posters have declared. I am so glad that JMM finally got retribution.
