"Sugar" Shane Mosley is currently training hard in Big Bear, CA for his upcoming clash with WBC Junior Middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Many are considering Mosley to be past his best and are dismissing him in this fight. There are eerie similarities to January of 2009 when everyone counted Mosley out against then Welterweight champion Antonio Margarito. In a fight that had a record setting attendance at Staples Center, Mosley proved everyone wrong as he completely annihilated Margarito over 9 one sided rounds.
While Mosley has been relatively quiet leading up to this fight, we finally got to see some fire and the confident Shane we are used to seeing. Mosley appeared on the most recent edition of BoxingScene’s official audio show The Boxing Lab and not only promised to shock the world, but he think this will be even better than the Margarito victory.
“This is the type of Margarito fight that people were like ‘Okay, where’s Shane at?’. It might even be better than Margarito. It’s that good. It might be better” said Shane.
“[People] are going to get the shock of their life when I go out there and fight. May 5th you’ll definitely get the shock of your life, I promise. I’m excited, I can’t wait until the night of the fight so I can display what I’m about to display” said Mosley.
Even in the twilight of his career Mosley believes he has enough left to beat the young undefeated Alvarez. Many are crowning Alvarez the next big superstar in boxing and the red headed champion already has an enormous following in his country. But Mosley plans to see if the one they call Canelo is everything they say he is.
“If he’s all that they say he is then maybe, maybe he goes the distance. But if he’s not then it’s just going to be a wash. It’s going to be a wipe out. So hopefully he trained hard and hopefully he’s the superstar they say he is. If he’s the superstar they say he is, it’s going to be a great fight. If he’s not up to par, he’s in trouble” expressed the future hall of fame fighter.
The fire is definitely still burning inside of Shane Mosley and we’ll see if he can add another huge victory to his already hall of fame resume on May 5th.
