When I was talking about Setanta being bigger than ITV for boxing, it wasn't to do with figures.
But the amount of fights they offer.
ITV don't have anything like Bunce's boxing hour. Are ITV showing the ABA championships tomorrow night?
If Setanta goes down, British boxing takes a big hit.
The amount and variation of boxing Setanta show is great. If (When) they go down it'll be a shame for us fight fans but in terms of marketing british boxers Sky is where its at. If Haye was a Sky Sports fighter most of the nation would be talking about the upcoming fight, but as it is very few people actually know who he is!
Coverage on Sky Sports News is the main factor as if you get exposure on that you grab the attention of all the football, rugby and cricket fans tuning in. Sky would never show all of the German cards or amateur stuff or Buncey's hour like Setanta do, but they sure know how to hype a fight and raise the profile of Britain's top boxers, which inturn raises the profile of British Boxing as a whole.
Nah.
Sky doesn't do half of the stuff Setanta does.
Are Sky showing the ABA championship finals tomorrow?
Do Sky Sports offer an hour every week to a show that is solely about boxing?
If Haye was a Sky Sports fighter? Why haven't Sky Sports offered a bid to buy the fight than? If Setanta are in such serious financial difficulties?
Sky Sports seem to cover the big British title fights, like Rogan vs Sexton. They don't really provide cover on the younger professionals or amateurs.
Thats what I'm saying. I much prefer Setanta boxing to Sky as they show much more and a greater variation. My point is if Haye wants to be a huge star in the UK he has to be on Sky Sports. He is under contract with Setanta so there is no way Sky could 'buy the fight' and Setanta's financial difficulties aren't going to be solved by terminating Haye's contract.
I think when Haye signed his Setanta deal it was great business financially for him. He couldn't have got that kind of money from anyother network. But in terms of exposure he has the smallest coverage possible for a UK fighter as he is not allowed to go on Sky Sports News and Setanta subscriptions (which are already small compared to Sky) are in freefall.
Think of it this way, if Haye manages to somehow get past the Klit's who will he sign for when his Setanta deal ends? He will become a Sky Box Office fighter 100% guarenteed.
I'm a big fan of his. Huge heart and a gentleman. From a technical point of view he has improved a great deal since the beating Kessler gave to him. Andrade-Froch would be a hell of fight to watch.
Yes less right. They do not deserve to be livng here or working. Stick to their own countries. They offer nothing to my country just steal money from the government and jobs. They should not be here at all. This is my country.
Hilarious. The people stealing from the country are shitless layabouts scrounging off benefits. The vast majority of immigrants in the UK pay taxes, work hard, and contribute the country as a whole.
They still have less right to get any kind of job in relation to someone born and raised over here they don't just walk over here and get a job. Bullshit.
Less right?! Jobs should go to those who are willing to work hardest imo. Immigrants tend to be at the lowest end of the pay scale doing the the most working class of jobs. In my experience as an employer, an immigratnt will work at least twice as hard for me as some gippo on the social would be willing to.
Not true. The vast majority do nothing but create trouble. They do not work, live off the benefits and if they get caught they get no prison just sent back to where they came from. They are wasting resources and time. They rarely get a job because they are here illegally. Eradicate them all is the way forward we will all have better lives.
That is simply not true.
I am voting for them. They are against immigrants that will only make the uk better and give us better jobs instead if foreigners.
What is this?! Politics for Dummies?
A wise man once said, if you're worried about foreigners taking your jobs you must be applying for some shit jobs!
can you paraphrase what it is an how significant that is?
Its an Order of the British Empire. MBE (Member) is the lowest rung. JC is actually a CBE (Commander) now, skipping OBE (Officer). So one more step up he'd become a KBE (Knight) and would therefore be dubbed Sir Joe.
Impossible to know really. Hard to imagine BHop at around 215lbs. It'd either be a boring UD win for BHop or it could be a scary ending for BHop at the hands of the far bigger and more powerful man.
It should have one but it won't. Its a huge fight but the US media have done some serious damage to the American's public perception of the Heavyweight division, which won't be easily reversed unless some exciting US prospect appears.
It was a good fight so of course I'd like to see a rematch, but I doubt Taylor would like the idea. Froch might not be one for the purists but whoever faces him is in for a long night.
Froch-Andrade is what I want to see next.
I doubt Andrade would beat Taylor, the guy got done by Bute too.
If Taylor showed the lack of stamina he did last night, he'd probably run into alot of problems late on against a guy like Andrade. Look what Andrade did to Bute late on... Still waiting for that rematch but no suprising Bute ain't too keen!
I don't think he 'deserves' a rematch, but I'd like to see one. I'd take Taylor by UD in a rematch as I think he underestimated Froch in training and during the fight. However, I could easily see a II playing out in similar fashion to I with Froch winning by stoppage. It would probably sensible for Taylor to get another fight under his belt against someone like Miranda or Pascal first.
Nope, David Haye will likely retire next, the guy showed zero interest in actual boxing, otherwise he would have gotten to the title shot old fashioned way of beating other contenders. He just wants his meal ticket and get out. Wlad on the other hand fights three times a year and is interested in getting the most interesting fights out on tv.
"Zero interest in boxing"... WTF are you on about?!
The guy lives and breathes the sport - He has done since he was a kid representing his country! He got to the top of the Cruiserweight division as fast as possible, taking risks, fighting out of his comfort zone, and without the aid of the British boxing hype machine that is Frank Warren.
As soon as he got to the top, he ploughed his cash back into the sport by setting up his own promotional firm, which has already put on several exciting and sucessful domestic events.
Furthermore, he's singlehandedly got people talking about the heavyweight division again by taking on the improbable task of fighting the Klitschko brothers upto 3 times, for less cash than he would've got by rematching Enzo or fighting someone like Skelton or Harrison at the O2.
That doesn't sound like someone with "zero interest in boxing" does it funny man?
I think it'd be fair to say that the winner of Froch-Taylor has a right to stake a claim for the number 1 spot. However, I'd still pick Kessler to beat both guys. For a true number 1 to emerge there are plenty of fights to be seen in the future. The good news for us fight fans as the division is starting to get stacked with talent.
Mikkel Kessler=Anthony Mundine=Felix Strum=Zolt Erdai =
Fighters w/ no baLLs who are allergic to tough competition & big fights outside their home country.
He had a good showing vs Calzaghe just like Felix Strum did vs oscar, so instead of parlaying those performances into big fights vs big opposition they chose the easy route.
I don't get it?! Surely Kessler's, Sturm's and Mundine's toughest competition and biggest fight's all took place outside their respective home countries?!
haye literally has gorgeous women hanging all over him every time he walks to the ring. check his myspace, no ****ing way that man is gay
Or more to the point he has a wife and child, a son named Cassius.
He is prejudiced against Eastern Europeans.
David Haye has something in common with Adolf Hitler - he hated the Slavs too, and wanted to clear them out of Eastern Europe to make "living space" for Germans.
Have I missed something?! He's talking about two boxers not a group of people...
Kessler fought Mundine in Sydney Australia.
I think people on here are picking on Kessler because he is bound for greatness...geez if he were a yank he would be like Kelly Pavlik to them!
Cant wait to see him in another big fight...gee I wonder if Hopkins or Pavlik would have fought Calzaghe in Wales in front of 50,000??? WHAT!!
Yeah I know. But my point stil stands as, imo, Mundine's toughest fight was outside of his home country - Ottke. For the record I deem Kessler as a much better fighter than Ottke, but Mundine went over to Germany as a 10 fight rookie to try and win a title against one of the most crooked fighters of all time - That was tough/big test.
Froch looking in great shape as usual. Should be a good fight. I still think that Taylor just has the edge but he better show up on his A-Game because Froch always brings it and loves to fight. I hope Froch can get a late KO victory.
Hes a bum....and as usaul a bum is fighting Kessler.
On the positive side he does what you're supposed to do to bums. The Calzaghe fight aside, you could probably count on your two hands the number of rounds that Kessler has lost in his career.
It'll be another showreel KO in under 5.
In all likelihood he may fight almost all his remaining fights outside the UK, so why should the UK government get any money?
Thats the way I tend to look at it. I never understood all the grief that Lewis Hamilton got for living in Switzerland - He's off travelling the world racing for 9 months of the year. Its the same with tennis stars who live the tax haven life in Monaco - They're on tour for 11 months of the year so never use their home countries. Kessler is a tax exile in Monaco... I know I'd be doing the same if I was a boxer. The only people I have a problem with are the fat cats who work all week in the UK, running their UK based companies, but then bugger off at the weekend for that tax break.
The quicker he gets these fights out the the way, the quicker he can get away from Palle. Just like all the others, apart from Calzaghe, Kessler will outclass and dominate this undeserving mandatory.
