setanta are throwing 100s of promos of him out there! if he wins against wlad he is going to be a mega star there.
it's crazy, he might be mike tyson of britain.
Nah.
Sky doesn't do half of the stuff Setanta does.
Are Sky showing the ABA championship finals tomorrow?
Do Sky Sports offer an hour every week to a show that is solely about boxing?
If Haye was a Sky Sports fighter? Why haven't Sky Sports offered a bid to buy the fight than? If Setanta are in such serious financial difficulties?
Sky Sports seem to cover the big British title fights, like Rogan vs Sexton. They don't really provide cover on the younger professionals or amateurs.
Thats what I'm saying. I much prefer Setanta boxing to Sky as they show much more and a greater variation. My point is if Haye wants to be a huge star in the UK he has to be on Sky Sports. He is under contract with Setanta so there is no way Sky could 'buy the fight' and Setanta's financial difficulties aren't going to be solved by terminating Haye's contract.
I think when Haye signed his Setanta deal it was great business financially for him. He couldn't have got that kind of money from anyother network. But in terms of exposure he has the smallest coverage possible for a UK fighter as he is not allowed to go on Sky Sports News and Setanta subscriptions (which are already small compared to Sky) are in freefall.
Think of it this way, if Haye manages to somehow get past the Klit's who will he sign for when his Setanta deal ends? He will become a Sky Box Office fighter 100% guarenteed.
Audley Harrison can share some of the blame for the current state of boxing on British TV, after his first ten fights BBC dropped boxing from their schedule and its yet to return.
When I was talking about Setanta being bigger than ITV for boxing, it wasn't to do with figures.
But the amount of fights they offer.
ITV don't have anything like Bunce's boxing hour. Are ITV showing the ABA championships tomorrow night?
If Setanta goes down, British boxing takes a big hit.
The amount and variation of boxing Setanta show is great. If (When) they go down it'll be a shame for us fight fans but in terms of marketing british boxers Sky is where its at. If Haye was a Sky Sports fighter most of the nation would be talking about the upcoming fight, but as it is very few people actually know who he is!
Coverage on Sky Sports News is the main factor as if you get exposure on that you grab the attention of all the football, rugby and cricket fans tuning in. Sky would never show all of the German cards or amateur stuff or Buncey's hour like Setanta do, but they sure know how to hype a fight and raise the profile of Britain's top boxers, which inturn raises the profile of British Boxing as a whole.
the enzo maccarinelli fight made haye big, no one knew him really until them (casual fans). the whole battle of britain thing then the ktfo got him huge appeal. he has now used his mouth to get the country looking at him, haye vs klitschko is massive.

Totally agree with everything in this post.
My point was that David Haye will not get the exposure from Setanta that he will get from ITV, and to a lesser extent, Sky Sports.
Can you back that claim up?
Not to hand no but im sure i could find them if i looked.
Do you really need them though? I would of thought it was obvious considering everybody in the uk that has a t.v has ITV, and as close as December last year Setanta had just over 2,000,000 subscribers. They are currently losing people and are in serious financial trouble too.
Everyone has ITV.
I know, read the next sentence and I state that. Hardcore fans have access to it, as do casual fans. Therefore you have 2 audiences for Big Fights there. Setanta will likely only appeal to the former, so have lower viewing figures.
All hardcore Boxing fans have ITV (In this country, anyway), so will tune into the boxing on there. Also, casual fans will have access to it, so will tune in.
Can you back that claim up?
I would imagine it's true, tbh.
All hardcore Boxing fans have ITV (In this country, anyway), so will tune into the boxing on there. Also, casual fans will have access to it, so will tune in. However, casual fans probably won't get Setanta, as their interest in the sport doesn't stem that far. So, ITV targets a wider audience, that includes Setantas audience..
No evidence, just my opinion.
Setanta is bigger than ITV for boxing. -
Disagree.
ITV's viewing figures for big fights dwarf Setanta's.
Setanta is certainly the better channel when it comes to boxing but for David Haye to become a megastar he needs people to tune in to watch his fights.
Im not saying he can't become a household name fighting on Setanta, but it would be much easier for him if he was fighting on ITV, or even SKY Sports.
I dont agree..Yeh he would be bigger if he was on sky sports however he can still become massive on setanta
Nuff peeps have the channel now its becoming just as big as sky sports
If he wins this fight he wont have to worry about any of that
