Would you describe Andrade as someone who is a "power puncher"?
hes a good puncher, but not really a power puncher. he just keeps smacking you around until you have nothing left, and then his opponents drop when their punch resistance is worn out.
on a side note, has Andrade gotten a LOT better, or is it just me?
his balance looked awful in the Kessler fight, the guy was literally standing on one leg sometimes when he punched, his head movement and guard didnt exist at all, and he lacked snap in his punches.
from his last fight, I noticed hes really able to sit down on his punches now, has signs of defence, and actually has learned to infight a little bit.
imo, hes made a ton of progress.
just checked boxrec and they have Bute listed at the number 1 spot currently and taylor at the number 2 spot. While Kessler was pushed back to number 3 spot which sounds about right, I guess he isn't rated number 1 super middle weight by them but Idk what the official ratings have him set at. By how boxrec rates, I think Taylor will be rated as number 1 spot if he beats Froch. And I'd have to agree with them
I have to admit I didnt even think of this.
and quite honestly, if its Taylor whos the winner, I think he deserves the #1 spot. wins over Jeff Lacy and Froch are almost just as good of wins as anyone Kessler has beaten.
and lets be real here...its been 2 years since Kessler has beaten anyone close to the top ten. its not always fair, but if you stop fighting top competition, you have to be dropped in the rankings eventually.
Taylor and Froch were willing to put together a high demand fight together. The other fighters weren't. The other fighters are content with fighting joke fighters. Except bute, bute has been putting up a pretty good resume.
Exactly. They are the only ones it seems who are making those big fights happen. There its a lot of competition at 168, but not all are fighting each other. I definitely think the winner of this fight should be placed at number 1. Its only fair.
I think it'd be fair to say that the winner of Froch-Taylor has a right to stake a claim for the number 1 spot. However, I'd still pick Kessler to beat both guys. For a true number 1 to emerge there are plenty of fights to be seen in the future. The good news for us fight fans as the division is starting to get stacked with talent.
It seems to me that without a fight involving Kessler a definitive #1 is cannot be determined. The winner of Froch/Taylor, people will wonder if he can beat Kessler, the winner of Andarde/Bute, people will wonder if he can beat Kessler, and if the winners of both of those fights fought, it will still beckon who wins between {insert fighter} and Kessler. He has just been a proven permanent fixture for so long at SMM, while the others are not yet proven or in Taylor's case have recently moved up in weight.
So, we only rate Kessler on his past performances and not his current performances against limp opposition? Woah look what Kessler did to an inexperienced Andrade or look what he did to Mundine. Andrade went on to do great things looking better in each fight but Mundine... Idk, anything about Mundine but then again I don't really follow him, he is australian isn't he?
From the looks of it, Mikkel Kessler won't be fighting a top SMW for a while. It's hard to make a case for him when the other top guys are fighting each other. Taylor in particular can lay claim to the title by beating Froch and adding on to an extensive resume.
Why is kessler still rated best super middle weight anyways? Losing to Calzaghe, then fighting 3 clowns gets you to keep the number 1 ranked super middle weight position?
