So guerrero is a safe fight?
Anyway, khan is the mandatory to the winner of danny vs ghost
I didn't say Guerrero was safe. I am pretty sure that's going to be the case though. Also, mandatory? We all know the politics. Was Salka a mandatory?
It's becoming a joke. The worst part is that people are OK with this. It is getting worse. We need to fight for the cause! We need to riot and demand what is right! .....Not really but you get my drift.
My post went up before I finished it but I was going to say some champions only defend their titles about once every 8 months. Today's fighters could fight much more often and make more money if they were more active.
Exactly my point. Most of these new fans are so out of touch. I for one am disgusted by the long waits. It wasn't always like this. Other athletes play daily or weekly. Can't these guys at least fight every season? I know people gasp at at the thought but we are all gonna miss out on very good fights cause they will never happen. If If fans are OK with that then so be it.
If i get sick this year and am on the verge of death....i will be wishing i could see my kids grow and had more time with them...sorry but i will not be worried about a damn fight
I know you have to defend your man at all cost but I didn't mean it in that sense. As I stated, I know it's not the most important thing in the world. I meant as in we never know what can happen. We can be gone tonight and miss the Porter fight tomorrow. I rather not wait for things to build up. I just want to see the best fight the best. Don't we all? Do you want to see the best fight the best or the best fight fight the mediocre?
Everytime someone from the boxing community passes I get to thinking stuff like that too. Like, what was the big fight they wanted to see before they passed (not that boxing is more important than other stuff in life)
Side question...Are you sick or something..u sound a little worried about the future?
No, I'm actually not. Not that I'm aware of at least. Just a thought I've been having. If you think about it, it can make you take at look at our sport in an interesting way. Honestly boxing is the only sport I follow so I guess that's why I get so emotionally involved.
When you make millions of dollars by fighting once or twice a year, why would you want to fight more? It's hunger that motivated fighters back in the day to fight 4 or 5 times a year, there was also 1 belt at every weight division and there were also less divisions than now, a title holder had too many contenders to beat to stay champion, and that's why great fights were made and that's why boxing was much more popular than now.
Fighters making tooooo much money+ too many belts= no need to fight too often (especially at the top level)
I guess this is the answer right here. This is the reason myself and many others are slowly transitioning into casuals. Sad state really.
Good good thread op. Completely agree. I don't know about anyone else here but what also bothers me is when you see a good prospect slow down. You know you see them developing, they're fighting decent guys who have good experience, they are stopping opponents left and right, they have good skills, they seem to be deserving the hype and they are improving their opposition every fight and not just padding their resume. But then once they get a title shot, not even a world title just a national title, they stop fighting every month or two and just fight at most 3 times a year.
Here in the UK it's really bad for this. Khan developed reasonably well even if he did get wrecked by Prescott but now he has only fought once this year. Chris Eubank jr looks exciting and is developing nicely but you wonder if he'll suddenly start taking long layoffs. Even George groves is a good example.
In my opinion if we had same day weigh ins this would force the fighters to fight more often. No more preparing to dehydrate so you can come in heavier so they would have no choice but to fight at their natural weight. People sometimes talk smack about the amateurs but the amateur scene is very active because of this. Old time great like Archie Moore never needed day before weigh ins. He satyed in good shape by fighting year round.
Nowadays a lot of camps are just fat camps, little work on skill. That's why I respect guys like froch and even floyd, even if they aren't as active as they should they keep in shape year round.
TL:DR prospects can dissapointed you. Same day weigh ins can help the sport.
You've made some very accurate points. I think our sport can become bigger with more exposure. It gets centralized to 2 or 3 big events a year. Anyway, I hope and pray that we all get to make it to see tonight's fight. Ya never know.
It really is pathetic seeing Floyd's yes men and hangers-on shouting "the best ever" and laughing at his crappy jokes, whilst he argues with some random middle aged woman in a hairdressers.
Wonder if they'll stick around when his money dries up?
My thoughts exactly
I mean every week with the bogus scorecards, the crap match ups, the fights we really want never getting made, the politics, the cold wars, the Al Haymon...lol, it's pitiful yet every weekend I'm sitting in front of my tv watching fights that shouldn't garner 2 minutes of my time...it sucks to love boxing right now for sure..... Not to mention coming on here and reading posts from people who don't love the sport, they only love a certain fighter and can't have a intelligent conversation or debate. It's disheartening for sure....
This describes me to a T. I swore it off for about half a week and came running right back to it. I'm a fiend. Plus it the only sport I actually follow.
I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if he thinks Argentine are tough too. Why does he always have to bring some race crap into it? He was doing good until that point. Not that I care but he is 100% racist. I know his type.
It really isn't a big boxing city. At least not compared to yesteryear. Philly is dominated by the big 4 sports. Eagles Flyers etc. It's hard to find diehard fans here. Danny can not fill up the arena here as his fans mostly reside in North Philly where most of the ricans reside. That's a small section of the city. The rest follow the other main sports. There is no real money to be made here.
In not even messing with angel no more, he said what he said expecting ppl to laugh and he just looked stupid. Danny is fighting Ron salsa angel! Wake up an get off the coke bro. And his after losing to Herrera. Smh DSG and co losing a big fan. Them *****s is lame as f*ck right now.
Props on keeping it 100. I know you're a big time Danny supporter so I gotta give it to you for being real. 95% of NSB posters lack that.
I don't like Broner but I have to respect him for calling for a fight with the most dangerous 140 pounder in the world. I think Broner is going to suffer a KO loss that will be hard to come back from. If Broner wins then he really is as good as he claims to be.
Well said. I don't like him either but dam does this guy ask for trouble. I've came to the conclusion that he at least calls out the fights so that gives us a slight bit of excitement of the fight actually happening. Unlike the typical "I leave that up to Haymon" crap. Got beat down and wanted an immediate rematch. He earns at least a shred of respect.
I doubt Tapia is going to step back up until late next year. Kirkland really battered him
Wow really? That's a long time to waste when your still an up and comer. From my understanding, he already fought not too long ago so he should start getting his confidence back.
