hmm not many true boxers in here..if so...everyone would have said 16oz...true story...most wont even let u spar w anything else..far as bags and stuff..should still wear ur 16oz till closer to the fight..then start wearen the size of glove for ur fight...i actually use 20oz tho for practice...and i'm 140lb
yea i know.
I'm 131 lbs and i fight at 125 (if i can still make it)
I train with 16's on just about everything, although on the mitts I prefer 14's or even 12's.
sparring with 14's is ridiculous, not trying to kill your sparring partners here. Anyone middleweight and over should be using 18's at least.
that's funny, considering the #1 p4p fighter in the world uses 8oz on the mitts AND the bag
back on topic: i use from 8-12oz on the bags and mitts and 16-18 on sparring
Fdotorres, he actually uses 10oz, atleast the one that I've seen him use, the green Winning's. And its funny when you see him spar, he still uses the 10oz and his sparring partners use the 16's, lol.
Anyway, back on topic. As I posted earlier I use 14's and 16's, but I also use Ringside's bag gloves that look like MMA gloves for the double end bag only though.
they look really nice, but, I wouldn't use 'em on heavybags or even mitts, you can f**k up your hands and wrists with them. It's really just another Ringside gimmick, really

no he doesn't, he trains with 12 oz on the mitts and sparrs with 18's. Winning arent huge gloves.
i love using the 16ozers on the bag for stamina, but I have noticed that the weight does influence your technique when you start to get tired, forming bad habits.
thats why recently I moved to 10oz for the bag to make sure my technique is crisp. I use 16's in sparring anyway.

altho to b honest yes...by now..Manny may use a lesser wieght glove..however he is a diff specimen of fighter and prob does other things for weight on his hands other than jus glove..plus he is a small dude lol...i havnt seen him train live..so i cant say NO he dont use a lesser glove i guess...but i'd MOST ams of course wich is what most of us here are....start usen the 16oz..and i've never seen a pro spar with anything less than 16oz...not sayen they dont..i jus havent seen it..
dude all guys in our gym use smaller gloves when they hit the mitts, mitt gloves. we focus on technique, you cant really work on your technique when you got huge gloves on where you dont know even know what part you hit the mitts with exactly. you want to be as quick as possible and as accurate as possible and thats not easy with big gloves on.
fight gloves are only 10 oz so why would you wear 16 or even bigger gloves when you hit the mitts. if you wanna improve your cardio and whatnot go hit the heavybag or use bigger gloves when you spar which is what we do. 16-18 oz. but with the mitts we usually dont go higher than 10 oz
