fight gloves are only 10 oz so why would you wear 16 or even bigger gloves when you hit the mitts. if you wanna improve your cardio and whatnot go hit the heavybag or use bigger gloves when you spar which is what we do. 16-18 oz. but with the mitts we usually dont go higher than 10 oz
some fighters do it to gain speed others to protect their hands.

Not all fight gloves are 10 oz tho.....i understand the point of bein on target for mitts...but i dont have bulky 16oz gloves either so its perfectly fine...plus it keeps weight on my hands for when i do get close to a fight i can scale down and really feel the lightness for speed...obviously the more i train in them the easier it gets over time yeah at first u may wear and not b on point but ummm thats kinda the point practice and struggles make u better if its easy everytime, you aint gainen nothen...at least tho u def said SPAR w 16-18oz...thats really what i'm sayen is the "norm" and anything else is either a dumb coach who doesnt know boxing and allows smaller gloves or well hell i dunno what lol

what makes you so sure that those aren't from the first weeks of training camp? that pic was taken 5 and a half weeks before the clottey fight, that's early in his camp

cotto is a bigger guy and uses 12 oz for the mitts. i've seen him training in PR btw, i'm not going by pics

in my gym they give you their 12oz to work on the mitts, but if you have a lighter glove, they encourage you to use it. but yeah, i've seen gyms using 16oz for everything. my point is that "real boxers" don't use 16oz for everything like some poster suggested

fdotorres, how does Cotto look in training compared to what we see on t.v., does he look faster, bigger, etc...

When I saw PAC at the WCG, he looks much faster in person than what we see on t.v, in fact, I think it's what throws off his opponents off once they finally step in the ring with him. I really think alot of his past opponents have underestimated him. I believe they've been fooled by size alone.

cotto does a lot of plyo in the gym and gets in shape pretty fast, BUT he doesn't focus so much on speed, instead more on technique

i think that's a mistake though, he should focus a bit more on speed and angles. with the power he naturally has, it would make him a killer to have good speed throughout 12 rounds

..I don't use the gloves to block anyway I use my forearm more

10 on the mitts, you want to be fast as you can and keep it as close to bout as it can be

Im exactly the same, even down to the blocking with forearms part

that's stamina right there. its one of the things Steward said he would work on, moving up should up.

On Cotto training, he never really pushes himself in sparring unlike other elites, pisses me off.
