Kids think they're going to be another RJJ, Mosley, Floyd, Oscar, etc. What do those names have in common? They all had better skills at the age of eight than anyone on this board has now!!!!!!!!!!

It's not hate to remind people of reality.

but you have to remember that their are greats who started late as hell, like marciano, george foreman, earnie shavers is a name that is mentioned on this forum a lot and he started in his 20's. it is important to hone your skills and that's what a lot of these guys are doing. mike tyson started at like 13 and went pro 5 years later. versatile has been boxing for 4 years.

alot of these guys who started young turn pro young. alot of these guys who are starting late are turning pro a little later. so this whole you have to start at a young age to be anything is overrated to me. and don't be surprised if you see some of these guys on hbo or showtime someday.

For the ones that say they're going to be world champions. They should post some sort of spar or match on here.Im pretty curious.Even I dont have the balls to say I'll be a World Champion. A success to me in the sport would be me making 50,000 dollars in a career of boxing. If more comes along its just a bonus.

Versatile is an 0-1 amatuer. I'm not hating on him, but he's no great example.

Sure there are always going to be Ricardo Mayorgas. I wouldn't count Marciano and Foreman in that cklass though. Marciano knew how to fight, and his few amateur tournamebnts were at the national level. Foreman was an Olympian. That's not like getting in a few scraps at the neighborhood gym.

Reasonable goal for you. That's not going to be easy, you're going to have to win a lot of fights. But lots of people will accomplish that one.

This is true. You dont have to start young, but you gotta have something that alot of other ppl dont. As for me.The only real reason Im doing boxing is because I have knockout power in both hands(As some of you guys have seen me knock someone down with a right hook, left hook and a right uppercut.Thats just the videos.Ive knocked and hurt ppl down with all sorts of different punches) If I didnt have punching power and started late.I'm not too sure I would continue.I have punching power skill.Im still working on boxing skill now.Its extremely hard and takes along time to get down if you've started late. Im suffering in certain fields because of that,me boxing for 4 year isnt ****.Its defiantly not alot of time.I wish I had 3 more years of practicing. My mom was going to put me in boxing at 8,but she put me in track and martial arts instead. Oh boy I wish she had.

Now there are still wonders that pick up them relatively fast, dont get me wrong. But for you to be successful in the sport at a late age or starting late. You gotta excel in something above most regular ppl that box.

mma guys are turning pro with like one year of training. some go pro right out the gate. they end up fighting pro and honing their skills in the pro ranks where they actually get paid.

seeing as anyone can go pro, guess who you will be fighting in your first few fights? not the champs of the division i can tell you that.

also, how many guys who have been fighting since a young age never even turn pro or never even go anywhere in boxing? what happened to kirk johnson? how did sam peter make it further then him? this leads me to believe that this whole experience thing is bull**** and the people that do make it usually have some natural advantage.

i do not believe i am of world class talent right now. but i do believe in the future i will be. even then i know i'd have a lot of detractors. how many champs have been called bums? and you are being modest to the point that it's ridiculous. you probably make more than that at your current job lol. but you are right to a point. if you do make that much, you are probably in the top 5 rankings, just not champ.

he may be 0-2, but records can be decieving. he wasn't quite prepared in that first fight and got screwed in the second. and on top of all that, his style is not favorable in the amateurs. any record he gets in the amateurs is almost pointless. a great amateur career doesn't mean much these days, have you seen audley harrison recently? ****, people are saying miranda is better than ward, and ward was an olympic gold medalist. amateur and pro are different beasts and should be treated accordingly.

and with marciano, the fact remains that he still had less amateur fights then sam sorry ass peter lol. he just chose to learn the game instead of fight for the hell of it. george foreman, had around the same fights as marciano, i believe he boxed for 2 years max and then went pro. a lot of the stuff you learn is outside of the actual fights. didn't james toney have like 30 amateur fights? he's a masterful boxer.

the point is, either you have it or you don't and you won't know until you fight pro.
