make sure to smile a lot at weigh-ins so you don't scare off your first round opponents.

Hey guys, I'm going to tell you something I tell my students who want to go to medical school. It's COMPLETELY ****** to become a doctor for the money, b/c it's easier to make the money than it is become a doctor. You should become a doctor if and only if, and only because you love medicine.

When I hear people talk about making $$$$ in boxing, I can barely keep from either laughing or crying. A few of you MIGHT get a few pro fights. None of you are getting rich in this. Do it for the sport. Money you could earn more by waiting tables.

              Hear me, Vers and others?

yeh you have to love the sport to even consider it. how many former champs are in money trouble now? how many of us can expect to become champs?

The Ringside tournament has a Masters division. The Masters division is actually quite popular. The Golden Gloves might be a problem.

USA Boxing allows fighters over the age of 35 to compete in the Master Division as long as a set of rules are followed:

                    - 2-minute rounds (Ringside has 90-second rounds in Master Div)
                    - 16 oz. gloves
                    - Cannot compete against anyone 10 years older or younger
                    - complete physical with heart workup every year with minimum HR / BP standards

Vermont, just this year, opened up GG for Master Division. Ringside also had a Master Division, both open and novice, this year. Rumor has it that Southern New England and Northern California Golden Gloves may have Master Division bouts next year.

IIRC, there is/was a Master Division someplace (state rule, I would imagine) that changed the knockout rules so that if there is a KO/TKO, the points are totaled, so as not to give an impetus to beat each other's aging brains in. That would take the fun out of it, IMO.

Lots of guys my age who don't want to take up golf, I guess.

If you haven't accomplished anything by age 18 in boxing. You suck and wont go anywhere.

                      Sorry guys...............
