He stopped a fighter that Vitali Klitschko couldn’t knockout to become world champion an unfortunately for him he fell victim to a bad style match up with a young Wilder who took his title an then added him to a highlight reel!

Stiverne had it all but fast feet an the size, he can always say he was world champion an hopefully he invested his earnings so he don’t have to keep
    fighting!

Thank you for the entertaining years Stiverne and even at your expense!
Nah. Wilder fans just like to big him up because he’s one of two Wilder wins that have a hope of giving Wilder’s career any credibility

King needed a known name and possibly a former champ. Stiverne is obese and slow, now, and has never been more than a decent boxer. Martin would have been by far too good and big for Bryan.

A decent fighter, but Stivern went eleven rounds. Who's really a star in the division, only Fury and Joshua. Usyk is not a big puncher but I think he is one who might be tough to beat due to his technical skills.

Stiverne was never really that good to be honest.

He is one of those guys who over achieved and won a world title but never really marketed himself well enough as WBC Champion.

If he was a bit more exciting and outgoing as a boxing personality he would have made enough money to retire and not be a punching bag in his forties as he appears to be now.

Hard to dislike the dude, but maybe he should hang them up.

Stiverenes stoppage by Demetrice King stoppage 14 years ago wasn't great either. His early record is a lot better than some of these serial record padders eg Bryan, Lovejoy, Wilder (why do they do this do they think we're ******) but King was his first step up and he ended up stopped.

Take those Areola wins of his record and he'd be a journeyman but you have to give him credit for those and the fact his early record looks honest.

              Haha! That made me laugh.

That's a pretty fair and accurate assessment and I've always found myself rooting for him when he fights. I remember seeing both Arreola wins and he was impressive in those but he never looked like the same fighter even against lesser opponents. Maybe it was the style matchup or that was the only time he was truly motivated, I'm not sure. Most of his other fights he's just slow, unmotivated and overweight with a bad motor. He's always had a fairly menacing punch.

It's a shame because I do think he had potential to be much better than what he turned out to be.

Don't forget, that stoppage was one of the baddest stoppage in the boxing history. Stiverne was hurt, but he was still in the fight.

And Stiverne knocked down King in the first round.

And Wladimir Klitschko got a KO-loss against Ross Puritty as well, after that against Sanders and Brewster too.

Let's be honest, the records of the most fighters wouldn't be so clean without any defeats if they must fight always strong and young opponents.

I think Stiverne was a good fighter he showed a lot of skills against Bryan too, but he wasn't maybe a true heavyweight.

Stivene was one of the smallest heavyweight in the last decade around the top 10 beside Povetkin and both fighters were in trouble against taller guys (Povetkin lost against Joshua and Klitschko too).

And Stiverne was in his amateur career on the board between crusier and heavy.

I had low expectations for this fight seeing Stiverne at 267. It surprised me as it wasn't a bad scrap at all. Bryan had a good jab & threw some good combos throughout the fight. I had him up 7-3 going into the 11th. Stiverne landed the harder punches but there just wasn't enough of them. Stiverne looked exhausted after the 10th while Bryan looked fresh. The jab was solid but his stamina impressed me the most. He was clearly not in the best shape compared to previous fights but at no time did he look tired at that weight. He wasn't breathing hard after any round. He paced himself & let that jab go sometimes following up with different attacks. He threw all the punches but that uppercut sometimes came from too far out which could lead to a big counterpunch catching him cleanly. I thought Bryan looked okay & I give Stiverne credit as I thought he would take a beating & get KO'd by the 7th. At 43 Stiverne put up a better fight than expected but the inactivity, his age & weight clearly were factors in this fight. I expect Bryan to be in better shape for when he defends against Charr in May. The WBA said Charr is next with a May deadline...
