Sure someone like SRR (for example) back in the day would have loads of 10-roud non-title bouts between defending his belt in 15-round championship fights, but these were NOT exhibitions.
An exhibition does not affect your record. An exhibition fight is usually for just a few rounds, often involving larger gloves... and is generally a waste of everyone's time.
However I wouldn't consider exhibition fights useless if the parties involved decided to adopt generally accepted regulation gloves, at least 10 rounds(as was rumored to be the case on numerous articles about this topic) and have rules allowing them to knockout each other.
The boxers set the rules for exhibition fights and they can easily adopt regular boxing rules if they wanted to.
Pacquaio is on record in saying that he doesn't want to get involved in the type of exhibition fights that Mayweather was doing in Japan so we could reasonably presume that he would insist that this exhibition fight(if that is the case) would be for real with both fighters having the option to KO each other.
Garcia's father also called this potential fight a real fight as well even though it might be an exhibition.
Anyways all the speculation and media reports right now is coming from the Garcia camp. They might be the party wanting an exhibition(since they don't want a loss registered on their fighter's record) which Pacquaio might not agreed to.
Garcia said on instagram: “A dream turned reality. It’s an honor to share the ring with Manny Pacquiao. Here is to the best man winning."
Pacquaio's only comments on his social media accounts was noncommittal since Garcia's instagram announcement.
Pacquiao has not acknowledged Garcia since. He’s only offered thoughts on the anniversary of Kobe Bryants’ death, and one other quote since Garcia went public.
“Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore fear God,” said the Filipino Senator.Last edited by cjeagle1; 01-28-2021, 01:48 AM.

This board is deranged. ALL of Haney, Teofimo, Loma, Tank, and Ryan would choose Manny over anyone else. Its not even a question
...If you go out there and obliterate the legend Manny - which becomes easier by the day at 43 - you pave your own path.
The hate is real here
Phuck outta with that bs!

It allowed fighters to fight without having to pay sanctioning fees from world alphabet boxing sacntioning organizations, use catchweight limitations, set up their own agreed rules within the purview of state sanctioning bodies, or in the case of Muhammad Ali fighting a wrestler in a boxing ring.
This are still real fights that can involve knockouts. In fact exhibition fights back in the day can lead to an official sanctioned championship if the lower rated boxer fighting the champion ended up winning or having an extremely competitive fight with the champion.
Back in the day fighters fought 4 to 8 times a year. An exhibition was no big deal.
In the days of fighters fighting once or twice a year, and fighters are ducking and marinating more than ever, no boxing fan gives a PHUCK about no exhibition fights.

There has been no confirmation that this fight is going thru or that this fight will be an exhibition fight. All that speculation and trial balloon is coming from the Garcia camp.
Considering that Pacquaio is on record at saying that he doesn't want to get involved in the type of exhibition fights that Mayweather likes getting into, there is no guarantee that Pacquaio will agree to Ryan Garcia camp's demands for it.
Pacquaio holds all the strings when it comes to setting up the rules and purse for any fight he wants at this point in his career, so I don't think this so called exhibition rumor will ever become reality.
So enough with the exhibition rumors many are spouting here.Last edited by cjeagle1; 01-28-2021, 03:10 AM.

Look at racehorses the average nag races as much as weekly in the season the champions 3 maybe 4 times a year, its much tougher to bounce back from competing against the very best competition. boxing is no different .
