Admittedly I never liked De La Hoya, and consider him quite overrated. But, willing to keep objectiveness, he indeed faced many big names.

But he was also carefully matched at the beginning, and the level of his opponents increased year by year, whereas Garcia has just beaten with a degree of difficulty his first serious opponent.

It's too early for him to be matched with Tank, for what I have seen. Garcia is còcky and hits hard, but - at least now - I see Davis on a superior level of confidence, ring expertise and ability to pick the heavier shots. Garcia is flat-footed and, as we saw, very open to counters.

On the other hand, I also remember De La Hoya close to being knocked out by Giorgio Campanella...

I may be wrong, but this is too high of a risk for Garcia. Of course I'll be ready to eat humble pie if he beats Tank.

What are you talking about? He won most of his big fights. Did you only start watching boxing when Pac and Floyd were huge names?

For reference, he fought Pernell and Chavez over a decade before he ever fought Floyd and Pac. That’s how long Oscar was operating at a top level for. Though they (Chavez and Pernell) were older, I don’t think you realize how big the Chavez fights were especially in Mexico and how important the Whittaker fight was seen for him.

He lost to Tito in a fight many consider a robbery (though he s hit the bed) Shane twice (once proper, the second many consider a robbery AND shane was juicing.)

Then he lost to B Hop while daring to be great at MW and it pretty much rounded out his career. Then while he came back, lost to Floyd and still some people (wrongly) believe he might have pulled off a draw, then an even more shot version of him weight drained to lose to Pac.

Almost every De La Hoya fight was a big fight for over a decade against top competition and some hall of famers. Some of these fights wouldnt be seen *as* big had Oscar not lost and catapulted careers to next levels. But people forget that.

You can only lose against atgs if you fight them. He won some and he lost some. Deserves all the in ring respect he gets even if he’s sus af outside it.

not that I dont think Ryan doesnt stand a chance, but he needs more experience

I think he was way too nervous and excited

needs a couple of fights at Luke campbell level

Finally a poster that realizes boxing was NOT invented in 2007!

I don't think all details are finalized yet but both teams may be in contact already and the two fighters think the fight will get done.

DAZN can go PPV now though so it shouldn't be THAT difficult to make.

I don’t favor Ryan over Tank either. I’m admittedly kind if a Tank nut hugger though so disclaimer. But at some point you have to take the trial by fire. There’s a fine line between not being ready and he never would have been.

I dont think he’s ready. But I’m also not sure if he ever will be. Tank has seemed easier to hit, is shorter, used to fighting slow feather fisted guys. I think Ryan really thinks that at 135 he’s not at a disadvantage like everyone coming up to fight Tank is and as powerful and explosive as Tank is, he’s not going to take Ryan’s power either.

I think he just thinks he can get to Tank before tank can and that he’s better because of that. He’s not wrong in believing that. Might not be how it plays out though. Its not like he can wait tank out, theyre close in age and Tank I’m sure improves too.

Tank isn’t going to be walking down Teo or Ryan or Loma or these too guys at 35 like he does the overmatched or outsized guys hes used to and I really want to see how he responds as well.

I just think it's an easy fight, Luke Campbell is not a legit opponent and Ryan has no head or foot movement at all. Tank will brutalize the body and chop down the tree. It's Devin Haney that I see being the one to beat Tank at 135.

If this really does materialize sooner than later, Garcia can be considered a rare breed. Honestly, a lot of young cats aren't that anxious these days to go right into danger. If he does and comes out of it the winner, his super stardom hits mega levels. He'll be the next best thing since a young Tito Trinidad.

he said he lost most of his top fights which is true, so what he knocked out vargas after trinidad already did, he got some gifts over older shot fighters and when he stepped up to the highest levels he lost.
