I remember George Foreman doing something similar in one of his early fights. Like Smith, Foreman's opponent unwisely laid against the ropes with a high guard so Foreman just teed off on him. He ended up with a fractured arm.
Addendum: I looked it up, it was a fighter named Pires in 1971.
Pires, who caught many punches on his arms, complained in his corner at the end of the third round of cramps in both forearms.
The Brazilian later said he hurt his left arm in the second round. Dr. Campbell said Pires had a muscle hemorrhage in the forearm and a possible hairline fracture. X‐rays will be taken.
This guy basically is saying no excuses, but that's why i lost because he was targeting my left arm! Well he should have had plan B! As tall as Smith is and his reach advantage, if he would have applied the jab more he could have probably done more to keep Canelo off his left arm. His uppercut was getting in from time to time but without any power behind it. I think now is the time Canelo should fight GGG for the third time! Lest face it, Canelo lost the 1st bout, and the 2nd fight could have been a draw, or maybe even a win for him. In reality they should be 1- 1
Let's get the rubber match signed before more time passes!!!!
That is 1 of the things a defeated fighter (Dentay Whiner) uses as an excuse also may I add spiked water , heavy costume and the womens favorite scratching the ear (actually it was a busted ear drum kept under wraps for psychological reason to protect the psyche of the wilderettes)
LOL this is the funniest excuse I've ever heard. He's accusing Canelo of veteran tactics and taking advantage of a compromised situation.
If your opponent is hobbling and hopping on one leg are you just going to stand there and not punch him because he's injured? Of course not! You're going in for the kill.
Callum Smith was probably hinting at his left arm the entire fight, like an idiot, and Canelo just obliged him.
He's also right when he says that he would've lost anyway if he didn't get the injury.

I think Smith was giving Canelo credit for his tactics. He never accused him of cheating or anything and he said that Canelo was simply too good

Smith was giving Canelo credit for using a clever tactic. I don’t see that as an excuse
Exactly. It’s like when Danny Garcia said that Errol Spence’s jab broke up his rhythm. He was simply pointing out a clever tactic that he couldn’t deal with

It's nothing like an excuse. He literally gave him credit for the tactic.
Smith's post fight interviews have been pretty good in my opinion. He's talked up Canelo and acknowledged that he is a great fighter.
I guess a few people get confused because it's the opposite of what we're used to.
