A beyond ridiculous thing to say or to listen too.
A pathetic attempt at a excuse
Canelo said in the post fight press conference that they worked in the gym at targeting the arm.

I don't think the comment was offered as an excuse. Smith was simply explaining how the arm was injured. The commentary by Hearn and others immediately after the fight was that Smith injured his arm, tore a bicep, and such. The reality is that Canelo purposefully injured Liam's arm. According to Canelo, their strategy going in was to not focus on the head but to hit the left shoulder and anything else that was available to take away Liam's best punch.

I want to refer you to the Cotto and the first Maidana fight.

Those guys tried the exact tactic Duran was talking about, and both guys hit very hard.

It didn't work. Floyd's arms were just fine and he was throwing hard, fast, and snappy punches up until the twelfth round.
Yeah but Maidana was never truly a dynamite puncher and was incredibly crude and slow. Cotto tried but it wasnt a dedicated effort and Cotto was never a truly explosive puncher either.

And trust me man I know it hurts lol. But everything “hurts” pain wise if we’re honest. I dont like getting hit on the back, gloves, hips, nowhere. It still sucks if you think about it lol

He just catches things so well and goes with them. He sees them coming.

It’s why he’s an atg and makes the big bucks. Have to also realize his poker face and composure. At the top level, you’re not going to stop a good champion with JUST pain.

Guys like Cotto or Callum had awful bicep injuries but still went the distance. James Toney used to take bombs from big dudes in the shoulders and arms also and he just knows how to ease up at the right time.

I guess you're right man. Man these elite pros are something else. No wonder they get paid so much money.

Calzaghe himself was overrated. He had the punching (or should I say slapping) power of a pensioner and would have lost to prime Hopkins or RJJ. He was world class but far from the modern boxing great his fanboys like to imagine.

Though not necessarily scoring punches it's a legit tactic to take out a known weapon or drop a tight guard. Didn't Mike Tyson do it to someone in his earlier career, I can't remember who? Something in the back of my mind says Larry Holmes but I could be wrong.

Calzaghe was a brilliant boxer with an exceptional work rate, but you are right. He was not at the Roy Jones or Bhop level. Still and all the level he achieved was impressive. I rate him higher than Froch.

Hence why you hit his arms.
Taylor & Manny Steward were the 1st to target his arms
