Floyd went to 140 with his eyes on Tszyu. He was very clear that’s the fight he wanted and they tried to make that fight.

With Floyd being with HBO and Tszyu being with Showtime there was already massive obstacles but even then, Tszyu didn’t want the fight IMO.

But once that fell through, Gatti was next.

Floyd was desperate for Kosta Tszyu to be honest. A big name, a P4P fighter, the Lineage and a guy who was clearly injury ridden and heading the the end of his career.
I forgot they were on rival networks tbf. I remember him calling Tszyu out in interviews but never really remember them being in any serious negotiations.

He also mentioned Hamed quite a lot too in the early days. Must’ve seen that as a very winnable fight and good payday.

judah lost the wbc belt to baldomir and floyd moved up to beat both judah and baldomir back to back, which essentially made mayweather the undisputed champ of the division even if he didn't have all the belts.
Warren and Sky paid Tszyu a lot of money to get him over here as well. Had he beat Hatton which was expected at the time, I think a Mayweather-Tszyu unification probably would have happened down the line.

He became undisputed when he beat Baldomir.

just not "officially" because Baldomir didn't pay a fee to keep the belts he won vs Judah.

so technically Floyd was undisputed 147 champion.

also undisputed P4P #1 with no debate

Not enough Baldomirs in those divisions.

Because then he risks being knocked out by good fighters.

Yeah he wanted Prince Naseem aswell but the timeslines were never realistic for that one.

Think that was after he’d lost aswell if I’m not mistaken.

                Going off memory.

He was HBO and KT was with Showtime. The fight wasn't big enough to warrant the networks working together.

                    Nah.

                    Baldomir was the Champion then.
