Everything counts. I feel like guys who get out early get a boosted legacy off of that & guys who stay too long lose legacy points for that reason too. In general anyways. There are exceptions.
Does Jones legacy past 2003 count?

Good points! He seems content with what hes accomplished( why wouldn't he be?) But he had some major losses to Calzaghe, Hopkins, Lebedev, Tarver, Tarver and Johnson. His fight with Tito would have made more sense had Tito beat Hopkins and moved up in weight immediately,
By the time they fought, it was an exhibition. Also how much credit does an age like fine wine Hopkins beating him knowing that he already beat him (bhop) in his prime.
And how could the Calzaghe fight not count legacy wise? It speaks volumes that Joe beat everyone in the ring including Roy.
I believe a fighter’s entire career should count.
Personally, although Jones peaked higher than anyone in his generation, we have to take his whole career into account and that is why he is not number one for his generation.Comment

To me it doesn’t really matter much, too Roy himself and the so called historians, maybe it matters more. As far as I’m concerned, what a fighter did in their prime, is what matters most. I look at the sport as a series of fights more so than broken down by individual careers as a whole.
I’ve yet to see anyone who did it like prime Roy, for better or for worse in terms of opposition etc. His legacy to me is the memory of what I witnessed.Comment

You must be kidding. Get out early you get boosted legacy? Really untrue, it means you get criticised for not doing all you needed to do, and ducked the young undefeated lions and toughest opponentsComment

consider the reverse - if jones had won worthless belts like wbu and wbf in his twenties, would you count them as valid when measuring up his title legacy?
course not. You'd be laughed at for claiming that his WBF belt was important as winning legit bodies titles in 4 weights.
anyone arguing that its true for his bouts in his 40s is just as much a joke.
ah, i think I have spotted just some idiots here in this thread.Last edited by DreamFighter; 11-22-2020, 12:00 PM.Comment

Don't argue with me argue with pundits. Salvador Sanchez & Rocky Marciano are key examples
Not having bad losses or a loss at all in some cases to a next gen guy definitely has impact in your legacy hype with pundits.
Not that there are a lot of guys who've gotten out early that we have some great sample size to discuss this theory with.Comment
