But who knows, maybe should Lopez win he is technically the new Franchise Champion. That’s the insinuation, but they’re specifically not being specific about it to not confuse the audience.
I wasn't talking about the crooked belts. I don't acknowledge or count any belt as legit. All are bogus POS.

Yeah but the problem are contenders being backed with powerful promoters whom also want their shot in traditional protocol. It’s just technically speaking Loma isn’t the WBC Champion nor is this for Undisputed. Andre Ward acknowledged not facing Adonis Stevenson for Undisputed. It just amazes Ward sits there hearing the promotion

I wouldn't mind that I always enjoy Poncher and Algieri on the undercards. Not sure about Ward but probably better than Bradley. I like Timmy's animated voice more but he often says ******er stuff.

I'm serious about that young fella though, he has dreams and aspirations of being a commentator and analyst and I just thought how awesome it would be if he randomly saw himself on ESPN since you're always saying industry insiders lurking here so hard (I have my doubts but I like being wrong)

Despite initially saying the Franchise shet cannot be won in the ring when they first made it up, Mauricio has now done a 180 and said that Teo becomes franchise if he wins.

“The WBC position of implementing the franchise designation is specifically for the outstanding champions such as Vasiliy Lomachenko. If Teofimo Lopez beats Vasiliy Lomachenko, he has all the merits to be recognized as the Franchise champion.
          In spite of this:

Such an honor is supposed to be a designation as it is not an actual belt to be defended.
Mealy mouthed bullchit. What they've said is that he doesn't actually 'win' the Franchise designation in the ring, but a win over Lomachenko will prove him 'worthy' of it. Originally they had some bullchit rules that someone beating the 'franchise' champion becomes automatic interim or contender for the regular belt or some nonsense.

WBC said that Loma is the real WBC champ at 135.

And basically saying that Haney is the “regular champ “

Personally I think they screwed the fans too, but I gather some folk still think this nonsense will make it easier for the 'best to fight the best' despite the lack of evidence.

Dudes who benefit are the Crooks 'emselves and the promoters, maybe Canelo or Loma some too, but both of these are guys who'll pretty much fight anyone anyway.
Exactly right. It's kinda why I feel a strange need to defend Haney and Charlo when people talk shit. They put themselves in positions to get those fights only to have those opportunities taken away. Instead of people saying Haney fought who the WBC wanted him to fight to get his shot at Loma we get "oh he's an email champ. Why doesn't he try to do something to earn his shot instead of just saying he wants the fight blah blah blah". People enraged over nonsense but the reality is is that these guys really were doing what was asked of them.

Politics in boxing are crazy. Remember the Athletic had reported huge dramas behind the scenes between Oscar and Canelo and DAZN way back in 2019? I was naive and in doubt about that, but it all starts to make sense now especially with the litigation.

Look at this quote below that foreshadowed what Sulaiman knew way before hand. In fact I think the Franchise was originally made all because of Canelo vs DAZN and the approvals.

“He has a very strict contract [with DAZN] that he has to comply with, in which he has to give the fans the best fights possible. You don’t know if he’s gonna fight in light heavyweight, super middleweight, middleweight, even super welterweight. That’s why the WBC has been thinking about a designation and we name it franchise. It was an agreement with him, with his promoter, that he would be representing the WBC in every fight. And every fight would be dealt [with] individually with regards to who the opponent is and what weight category.” - WBC

I think Oscar was the mastermind behind the Franchise to help GBP with approvals under DAZN. Perhaps Sulaiman knew that Hearn was blocking fights for GBP and Franchise helped with marketing to justify Canelo’s high premium grades.

Why are there only two "regular champs"?

Well yeah, you gotta think it's likely that the WBC wanted to make sure they got a slice - or at least their name connected - with Canelo whatever his DAZN contract called for. And given the DAZN contract was with GBP rather than Canelo himself its entirely likely the idea originated with Oscar or Bernard or kinda emerged from discussion with the WBC brass.

Can't someone just fire the president of the wbc,wba and possibly the wbo and just start over fresh?
