I get all of that. I get that boxing is a business. I am asking you, who would your or DAZN consider worthy as an opponent for Canelo. BASED ON YOUR TERMS AND DEFINITIONS. Who would you put in with Canelo in order to fulfill all those requirements? Who does DAZN have in mind then so that Canelo can get paid what his contract states?

And yet it still makes Canelo look like a diva. Traffic cops pull people over all the time and let them off with a warning even if they broke the law. Why? Because even they know that the law is not always right. Caneo can be in the right and still be a diva. Both can be true.Contracts are not about what is right or what is wrong! They are about the legal obligations of all signatories to the contract. To coin a phrase, "Contracts are not in the right and wrong business, but in the business of what is legal and what is illegal." It isn't right that banks can foreclose on widows if they are in arrears, but it sure as helll is legal and very enforceable.Comment

While this may all be true. DAZN needs to put out a list of acceptable fighters for Canelo then if they are going to be the ones with the veto power. Just saying "because I said so" is not going to cut it.I think the term DAZN used (according to the article) is "premium". I would imagine, in DAZN's view, GGG, UFC fighters, ODLH or even a random YouTuber would be considered "premium".
I don't think anyone could argue those opponents (with exception of GGG) are "elite". Elite opponents would be Andrade, Nicole, Beterbiev with BJS and Smith a notch below them.
DAZN is looking for whatever will draw subscriptions in the US market. It's why you had youtubers fight as main events. It's unfortunate, I love the idea of a streaming service that provides me fight cards of varying levels throughout the year. I was excited about the potential of DAZN but there were warning signs of trouble and desperation fairly early.Comment

Then why allow GGG vs. Szeremeta?GGG was in 2 PPV cards cards which were promoted and hyped events. He was promoted by HBO before their demise. He even was in an Apple commercial of some kind and presence in advertisements. There is name recognition still.
His buzz may be gone among knowledgeable boxing fans who have watched him look shopworn recently but the casual fan still knows who he is more than BJS or Callum Smith. Sure, it would look great if GGGG was showcased and got a hilights reel KO to set up a Canelo fight but I think DAZN is in a situation where they want a fight that generates revenue now. Don't forget that they pushed back the start of Canelo's fight with Kovalev just to eke out a few more subscriptions from people finishing up the UFC PPV.Comment

Ggg was in PPV cards with another bigger star. The PPV where he had to carry it was not that good in terms of sales.GGG was in 2 PPV cards cards which were promoted and hyped events. There is a lot of U.S., British and Mexican sources the pay cut offered by Canelo, including De La Hoya and the complaint filed by Canelo's lawyers in California District Court. It is a complicated deal, but basically DAZN pays GB 40 million for the rights to stream the Canelo fights. GB, in turn, guarantees Canelo $35 million and uses the remaining $5 million plus revenues from gate receipts, sponsorships and other sources to pay the other fighter. DAZN will now only pay $17 million for the next fight, but not because of the pandemic but because they insist that Canelo has to fight one premier fighter per year and they do not consider champions like Jacobs, Kovalev or any other fighter but GGG as a premier fighter. This position excludes ALL other champions as being premier, including Charlo, Plant, Benevides, Andrade and all the rest. But DAZN does consider a couple of MMA fighters and even old Oscar De La Hoya as being premier fights for Canelo. Obviously DAZN's position is crazy. It has a lot to do with DAZN incompetent management and their penchant for freak shows.Any source on this? If he is making 0 money off endorsements or merch, where is the money going to then? If he is willing to take a pay cut on the minimum guarantee then why is he suing? The article made it seem like he is suing because DAZN does not want to pay him the guarantee.Comment

Consider this: The local car dealer mistakenly sold a car to you for less than the cost of the car. They discover this during their annual audit 4 months later they want you to pay the extra $4,000 that would what the normal price of the car. Of course, you will write them a check to the $4k. Nope, you will say we have a contract. I bought the car in good faith and you have to honor the contract. Or consider this: The car dealer sold you a car for $4,000 more than they normally charge and 4 months later they call you and say that they are sorry and want you to accept a check for $4,000. Nope, they will not even consider that. Caveat Emptor! And yet it still makes Canelo look like a diva. The Lord himself can write a letter of recommendation for Canelo and a bunch of folks will still rag him and call him a diva. And yet it still makes Canelo look like a diva. I am not always in the know with what is going on in the boxing world. I try to keep up. I will have to look into this. I am not saying it is false I just like to know the facts for myself instead of play telephone. It does not surprise me what DAZN considers to be premier or w/e language they use. Maybe Canelo is a Diva maybe he is not. This now sounds more like he wants to get out of his contract which I am all for. There is a lot of U.S., British and Mexican sources the pay cut offered by Canelo, including De La Hoya and the complaint filed by Canelo's lawyers in California District Court. Not suprised Canelo wants to be paid 280 million for doing absolutely nothing. Say what you want about Floyd but atleast he never asked for a point blank handout for nothing.Comment
