I'm not arguing that GGG is a huge PPV draw on his own. I'm stating that he has had alot more exposure than alot of the other names that have been placed out there. His name garners more recognition among the casual fans who might subscribe than a BJS, Callum Smith or a Bivol.

DAZN is looking for new membership to their service (even if it is just for one month to view a certain fight). A name like GGG, or Jorge Masvidal for that matter, would garner those subscriptions more than Callum Smith.

Is that fight even confirmed to be happening? From what I understand, the Szeremeta was planned pre-pandemic and I imagine they signed off on it for the reasons you initially stated - give him an easier fight for him to look impressive while waiting for the Canelo fight. There was talk of the Szeremeta fight taking place in Kazakhstan which may have included a significant site fee (I don't know).

I would guess all of that changed when it became readily apparently that Canelo wouldn't fight GGG and the pandemic further accelerated the financial mistakes DAZN has made.

      • Clenero takes greed to another level.
I actually don't give a chit if Clenboy fights.
Theirs always some kind of diva BS happening when Clenboy fights. Clen should thank GBP for paying off judges and making sure Clenero gets the nod.
        Ungrateful ginger.

        • DAZN Used Boxing!

They was never in this thing for the long run. We have to call them out too, I get it some people had high hopes and was acting like Platform Groupies and was hoping that some how DAZN would take down Al Haymon and PBC but that needs to be pushed aside and the real issue need to be addressed here...

DAZN USED BOXING! They used Boxing because it was the only thing available in this US Market that they could roll out with since NBA, NFL and other far more popular sports are already locked in with Network and Streaming Deals. They see that Politics make it virtually Impossible to make the fights that they want on their Platform when they want so now they want OUT after Promising fighters and Promoters all this money

Rushing into this deal was the wrong move for GBP but what other options did they have at the time? Burned that Bridge with Espinoza, of course the issues with Haymon, they tried ESPN but ESPN brushed them off and told them to "Go Talk To Bob" Treatment. So yeah at the time the DAZN Deal looked INCREDIBLE BUT clearly it was "Too Good To Be True" and now fighter are likely going to be stuck and inactive because of a Bad Network/APP Deal of their Promotion which is not fair

Maybe things could get worked out who knows but once you get Lawyers and Courts involved it is NO GOING BACK after that! GBP is worthless to DAZN without Canelo!

They may well have provided that to Canelo. I have no idea. I imagine they don't want to make that list public to the fans because that would be moving the dispute with Canelo into the public eye moreso.

I want to see legitimate, compelling boxing matches. If it turns out that DAZN legitimately wanted him in circus fights against UFC fighters or ODLH, I would be incredibly disappointed and not blame Canelo for refusing.

If DAZN's contract didn't have language in place to safeguard against the unforseen (like a pandemic) or to ensure they had more say in opposition, that is on them. I don't think Canelo is innocent in this whole fiasco and I imagine he is using the errors of DAZN to force his contractual independence. If he gets financial restitution from it as well, then that's even better (for him).

The whole thing is just very disappointing.

It is a complicated deal, but basically DAZN pays GB 40 million for the rights to stream the Canelo fights. GB, in turn, guarantees Canelo $35 million and uses the remaining $5 million plus revenues from gate receipts, sponsorships and other sources to pay the other fighter. DAZN will now only pay $17 million for the next fight, but not because of the pandemic but because they insist that Canelo has to fight one premier fighter per year and they do not consider champions like Jacobs, Kovalev or any other fighter but GGG as a premier fighter. This position excludes ALL other champions as being premier, including Charlo, Plant, Benevides, Andrade and all the rest. But DAZN does consider a couple of MMA fighters and even old Oscar De La Hoya as being premier fights for Canelo. Obviously DAZN's position is crazy. It has a lot to do with DAZN incompetent management and their penchant for freak shows.
I'm not on this legal stuff and I don't know what is on the contract, I'm the guy who only knows and likes to chat about boxing, but if this is true then "daaaamn"..

I think DAZN is all about casuals market, they could care less about hardcores.

Very true. We live in an age of hypeism. Ya I may have just made that word up. Today's generation and society mostly live for the hype or the recognition. Nobody wants to take the time to actually put in the work to see something through.

Disappointing and we the fans are the ones left sitting outside in the dark wondering where did everyone go. We are willing to pay for the fights, they just have to produce them.

                  • Canelo will end up taking a paycut and will STFU.. he has no leg to stand on at all.

                    • In an LLC if you lose a case, they can't take your home. When "they" started promoting fights on the property, they might have crossed a line. They better hope Canelo doesn't have a leg to stand on.
