"It wasn’t too little, but it was too late.

That’s essentially why Sergey Kovalev turned down an 11th-hour, eight-figure offer to fight Canelo Alvarez. Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez made a very attractive offer to Kathy Duva, Kovalev’s promoter, late in July for Kovalev to defend his WBO light heavyweight title versus Alvarez on October 26 in Las Vegas."

It was initially reported that the November date was too quick a turnaround for Kovalev:

"WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev is reportedly putting the brakes on a fight with Saul Canelo Alvarez on November 2, as Golden Boy Promotions wants. Kovalev (34-3-1, 29 KOs) took a lot of heavy punishment in his fight last Saturday night against mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde, and it would be too quick of a turnaround for him fight in 10 weeks from now on November 2."

Only after the pot for Kovalev was considerably sweetened did he agree to fight on such short rest.
Lol. Kovalev took a lot of punishment? One round where Kovalev got staggered is now taking punishment from the whole fight? Lame ass excuse.

I think he's one of those guys who's just not content doing anything unless he's made someone else's life difficult. Considering the ungodly amount of money he's paid I don't think it's too much to ask for him to give DAZN the fights that they so clearly wanted from day 1. I don' think he's afraid of any of these guys that DAZN keep proposing, but do I think he's just arrogant and has to feel like he's the one calling all the shots he digs his heels in and turns every attempt to get a fight made into a tedious tug of war. There's been some variety of drawn-out, months-long circus around who he's going to fight, where, for which belt or for how much money or some combination of those pretty much ever since he inherited the mantle of boxing's biggest cash cow from Floyd.

The OP is upset that Canelo wants Smith, BJS or Plant; 30, 31, 28, respectively.

I guess all of those guys should just quit boxing and relinquish their belts

Maybe Canelo should have offered to buy out Szeremeta’s contract instead of sticking GGg with the bill.
why do you insisit on going around spreading lies like you are so sure of yourself and the situation?

when canelo said hes fight golovkin they had no actual deal in place for szeremata/golovkin

there was no deal in place to break or for anyone to buy out...it was a pre pandemic plan of team golovkin....but no deal was signed

“I made a commitment before all this situation with coronavirus happened,” Golovkin said to Sports Illustrated. “I’m talking about my fight with Szeremeta. I intend to keep my word. Once the situation changes, as soon as everything is back to normal, I intend to have this fight first.”

there was no deal/pact to break...just a handshake agreement....golovkin chose this fight

and we know why...because golovkin comes from little and has become very wealthy....hes seen big checks and now has big money...and he loves it..just like any other guy thats gotten a taste...."hey 6 mil to fight some guy thats an easy nights work? suree....where do i sign"?.....its as simple as that....

DAZN were the idiots. They overestimated the boxing landscape in the U.S. By overpaying Canelo Alvarez; Especially over the internet and an online streaming application where boxing fans watch their fights for free.

                    You’re spreading lies.

                    There is a contract.

                    ...

So, I think in situations where there’s contracts in place, you know, my plan is not to just come in and tear up contracts and say, ‘Sorry, mate, well the game’s changed.’ You know, there’s promises that have been made not just to Golovkin, but to Szeremeta as well. Those contracts and emails have been sent to the IBF, confirming the mandatory has been signed.

“So, you know, and I think Gennadiy, who really doesn’t speak up too much, feels a little bit like, ‘Hang on, guys. Like, I wanted the Canelo fight. You gave me this other plan. I’ve signed into this now. And now I’ve got to rip this up and go again.’ What I would like to see happen is I would like to see Gennadiy Golovkin fight Szeremeta in August and I would like to see Billy Joe Saunders fight Canelo in September. And then I would like to see in December, the winners fight. Because [Alvarez-Golovkin III] is one fight where we really do need to put that into the DAZN calendar.”

DAZN was never approached about Yildirim. Pretty sure Dirrell was brought up due to budget reasons and Ryder is a better fight than Callum.
