Alexander Povetkin earned plenty of accolades following his latest victory. Not among them, however, is a guaranteed shot at the heavyweight crown. The 2004 Olympic Gold medalist and veteran contender was on the delivering end of the leading candidate for 2020 Knockout of the Year, following his one-punch highlight reel 5th round knockout of Dillian Whyte. The feat took place this past Saturday at Matchroom Boxing headquarters in Brentwood, Essex, England, with the main event intended to keep Whyte active while awaiting a promised mandatory title shot versus WBC and two-time lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21KOs).

Great it means we can look forward to fury vs Joshua early April next year.....I think Hearn will now not be so fast in booking in the return rematch of Whyte vs povetkin.
We all want to see the big one

I'm pretty sure that if Povetkin was Mexican then he'd get the nod!

They'll probably make Wilder the mandatory anyway.

          Then push some eliminators.

          Then award a franchise belt.

When did a WBC titlist last face a property mandatory again?

Fury was made mandatory with no basis. Breazeale got dragged out of an eliminator to be mandatory. Who was before that?

Was it Stiverne? The best the WBC have managed in over 5 years?

Dillian, should have taken a bum fight like Tyson Fury does when he have a major fight on the horizon. Fury is the master of bum fights. He loves them. He does them all the time. Fury would have not fought one of the top 10 contenders in the world as a tuneup fight.

Now one thousand days of Whyte being the WBC's number one contender has been shot straight to Hell thanks to that uppercut by Sasha Povetkin. Matchroom and Eddie Hearn sure knows how to match make don't they?

Whyte's the idiot. He could have gotten his title shot years ago but he only wanted it on his own terms. Both the WBC and Deontay Wilder threw him lifelines which he rejected.

It doesn’t work like that ,only Povetkin or Whyte can be the mandatory since there was already a mandatory in position .Fury was made mandatory due to a rematch clause when Breazeale had his fight already under the rules a mandatory can be giving in rematches .

What? Fury was made mandatory for the fight they had earlier this year. That was Wilder's 2020 Mandatory. Despite the fact Wilder already had a mandatory... which they suspended, despite the fact the fighter wasn't suspended. They made Fury his mandatory AFTER the fight was confirmed.

Breazeale was ordered to fight an eliminator v Whyte. Then Wilder made a deal with him and the WBC made it a mandatory defence.

And Whyte is no longer the mandatory. Povetkin is not the mandatory. They will decide on a mandatory as we get towards Wilder Fury III.

You know the second fight was a rematch right ? Again in the rules a rematch can be made a mandatory.

Breazeale was not made to fight Whyte as an elimination bout because he already had one with Molina after Stiverne pulled out to fight Wilder .

Povetkin gets the mandatory by defeating anyone who holds the position ,a winner against a mandatory is rewarded that spot and issued the day of the victory where the champion must fight that guy within a years time unless a rematch claus is in position what are you talking about ? Ha
