Teofimo Lopez: Stop Low Balling Me or No Fight

I wouldn't call that a lowball.

Lomachenko is a multi weight champion with a good amount of title defenses. I expect him to make more.

Lopez is making his first title defense in a unification bout. Lopez has a ton of upside but the lack of title defenses is what is hurting him here along with the lack of attendance. He is a thrash talker. His biggest gain is always going to come from ticket sales

I'm on Teofimo's side, he should get more.

Loma is definitely the bigger draw, but he's not 3x the draw Lopez is. Plus Lopez is bringing more to the table than the usual Loma opponent (a belt and a 0). He should get a little more.

In comparison, look at the Loma/Linares purse.

Loma got 1.2 mil and Linares got 1 mil.

So why is the gap so much bigger for Teofimo?

I say give him closer to 2 mil and call it a day

To reiterate, Lomachenko is getting 3M+ due to his deal he signed with TR. That is his guarantee, so he's making AT LEAST that against anyone, whether it be Lopez or Crolla.

Right! He has NO HISTORY. None. This is an absolute joke. Teofimo's head is so damn big it's delusional. Given the situation, given he's just fought a name (once), and with all the **** he's been talking; you'd think that he'd take the fight at that purse size. I mean he's "going to make it look so easy," then surely he "knows" that his other fights are going to have bigger purse sizes.

And the fight itself will be big. So there is value that Lopez brings to the table. Again, Gvozdyk and Beterbiev just got 1.5M each and their fight isn't anywhere close to this one.

Teofimo needs to remember he's 23 and not 33, he's got plenty of years in the sport. Besides wasn't his dad the one saying he'd be unified champ in 16 fights? Don't want to prove your dad wrong Teo!

I have no idea but I can't imagine Lopez takes this fight without making at least $2M. They did lose the live gate which could have possibly approached a million or maybe a tad more. Lomachenko's purse he got is pretty much guaranteed in his contract and that's how much he always makes. But putting on a fight on regular ESPN when both main event fighters purse total is over 5 million is tough, especially without a gate.

Hopefully they figure this out though.

It’s a sh**ty situation because I feel if this fight doesn’t happen next then it will probably never happen as Teofimo will likely be moving to 140 and I doubt Loma ever fights above 135.

Well but the thing is every fighter is on the same boat...1.2 mil after taxes and paying ur people you will still have a good amount to invest...and hes making good money for his second title fight...if he beats loma the rewards will be far much better

After taxes (in NY especially) and paying your people, he will likely net under 500k. Great payday and in general I think all athletes today are overpaid. But not fight athletes. They are really putting their health at risk out there so I don't mind them grinding out every dollar.

You could argue whether facing Loma is really a health risk but I could see how Lopez thinks 3 to 1 is too much in Loma's favor. Just my 2 cents. If they offered him 1.5 million and Loma 2 million and Lopez ducked it I would have a different opinion. His star power is probably roughly what Loma's is?

I don't think it's a lowball but it's a starting point. With Loma making over 3M they can at least offer Teo between 1.5 and 2. But then again it isn't my money so if this is as high as they will go and Lopez won't take it I won't fault him. Sucks the fight won't happen if this isn't figured out though, was really looking forward to this one

Does he though? What history does Lopez have of drawing at this moment? Not saying he can't, but he hasn't done it yet. Lomachenko is a good draw, but not a great draw himself. But he has at least done gates over 500-800k and had one over a million against Linares I believe.

This appears to be the classic “whole is better than the sum of the parts” fight where the animosity between the 2 and the clash of styles and nationalities is what is drawing fans.

In that regard, Lopez should get more than the approximate 75/25 split we are seeing reported.

60/40 -63/37 giving Loma the bigger number as the multiple belt holder and lineal champ seems about right.
