DAZN being cheap, don't want to pay Canelo full price for next fight

No fans means no live gate. Throw in the fact that his last 3 opponents werent exactly names or killers and you should understand why dazn doest want to pay him that much. His next opponent isnt a household name or ko artist eitherComment

Either Canelo take this fight on shorts or risk DAZN going completely and permanently out of business. It's his choice. They are in near financial ruin and could use a loan to seriously pay off their debts.
Canelo understands the current climate we are living in. Without a live gate DAZN doesn't stand a chance of matching his guarantee.
The upside of this is it's only temporary and he is still working and has a job. That's more than what 40 million Americans can say.Comment

You're right. However, I just wonder how many subscribers do DAZN have remaining to help pay Canelo's guarantee with so many boxing fans worldwide being either unemployed or furloughed? I know I allowed mine to expire back in April without renewing it. $100 is lot to ask of boxing fans during this pandemic.
Edit: On 2nd thought, perhaps it wasnt so far fetched an idea. Assume Canelo fights 2x a year, thats a $70 million outlay for DAZN. If Canelo drives a million subs a year (not an unreasonable goal), thats $100 million annually in revenue, less the production expenses. They key is that those have to be annual subs though, and not just monthly buys in the 2 months that he fights.....Last edited by OnePunch; 07-25-2020, 09:00 AM.Comment

you would have to think that DAZN knew the deal was a loser overall, basically a loss-leader to expose the US audience to their product. I suppose they could be dumb enough to think they would turn a profit on Canelos deal, but if they actually thought that, then maybe they need new leadership.......

DAZN Global (originally 7+ markets) are about to go big time with 200+. Boxing is just a special niche menu, but realistically new gen fans whom
Have mobile want football. I’ve seen people for the last 9 years stream matches from mobile phones.
Canelo shouldn’t be at fault because of the pandemic. The politics at play and influence in those board meetings has me to believe that an influencer is saying that Canelo’s opponents are “bad.” I take that’s Eddie Hearn. Eddie Hearn has also been saying Canelo should consider a PPV option for Sept. why the hell would he say that?! Lol. Eddie Hearn is trying to mess with the GBP portfolio and sneak in Matchroom exclusively. He even made headlines recently he wants to run boxing like the UFC. If he truly means that he’s doing dirty deeds to mess with Canelo business since we know Oscar and Eddie have had tabs each other the last 2 years within DAZN.
It’s not a coincidence.Comment
