Nobody went to war like Miguel, he lost a close but coulda went any direction fight vs canelo, a fight that I would hope to see 20 round s instead. So either a 15 rounder or a rematch, these guys were TOUGH, too much warrior in them.
Against Floyd he held his own, VERY close fight.
Miguel beat margarito. He avenged that loss in definite fashion. The only person who dismantled him was Manny Pacquiao the greatest at the time.
Who cares about the sadam Ali match? Stuff happens.
So I have to ask my self this: the two front-runner s from the 21st century which I'm basing this assessment on, there was a fighter that lost to pac and money may. His name was Ricky hatton. Now the question I bring up was: does that make you pound for pound #3 for Miguel or Richard hatton. Who wins between these 2 3rd place coveters?
Hatton ONLY lost to the 2 very best: pac and money. Miguel ALSO lost to pac and money. So who mythologically goes down as pound for pound #3? Hatton- cotto, 2 atg's and legends and hofers, same era, weight class etc, one of the greatest fight that never happened.

Cotto's probably a bit overated but he was a fan friendly fighter with lots of heart. The problem with Miguel was as he moved up in weight he became less effective until finally, through some clever matchmaking, Miguel became, arguably, the weakest MW champ in modern history.
That said Miguel is a legitimate Hall of Famer but not an ATG.

He is not underrated , actually might be slightly overrated.Things could have been different but I think that 1st Margarito took a lot out of him and he was never the same.He had some solid wins , but lost his biggest fights Margarito (he cheated) still an L though, lost to Pac, lost to Floyd, lost to Canelo .

Marquez ranks higher than both
