He was a very good fighter. But he did blow hot and cold a bit. You wasn't really sure what version of cott o would turn up from one day to the next.
Pac did beat clottey so much more dominant as Pac often did. So I think you can see the gulf a bit there it is revealing.

Just think of it like this; he would probably up there in the mentions of the definitive best of his era if he didnt have the misfortune of competing in the pac floyd era

Clottey didnt try to win and still busted Manny up, the interviews with Clottey tell the story of why he didnt try to win the fight, lucky for Manny because a 1/2 charged Clottey was whipping Manny every time he let his hands go.

Cotto will definitely make the HOF, his biggest downfalls was a cheat beating that could have killed him and then given 2 give me fights and then Manny at a CW where the biggest mistakes in his career, although the CW was forced on him by Arum, Cotto didnt even want his title on the line at a CW.

Cotto was an honorable man and hell of fighter.

Cotto is a good fighter. Not an A+ fighter but he was good. Who knows how high he would of gotten if he wasnt smashed with a cast for 10 plus rounds. He clearly wasnt the same after the margarito fight. He became gun shy and swelled more easily. Even tho he did lose a lot of his big fights the man fought everybody. Just like Floyd and Mosley. I would of loved to see him against hatton and kosta Tzyu.

I think he is over rated.

I think he definitely deserves to be HOF.

I think he had really good ring IQ.

I think later in his career he had really good business mind.

I enjoyed most of his fights as he was good enough, smart enough but at the same time vulnerable enough to make interesting.

I felt sorry for him getting destroyed by Margarito, that really took a lot out of him mentally and he went from a fully grown mature adult with kids with a clean body to a fully tattood body (including neck) within months of that loss.

All in all I'll enjoy watching his replays and wish him best in the sport. Also deserves kudos for learning English very well later on in his career.

If anything I think he's overrated. His best days were at 140.

Great fighter, but being the Puerto Rican boxing torchbearer kinda elevated his fame IMO. Maybe I'm looking at it through the wrong lense because Floyd & Pac were in his era.

No. It might seem like he's underrated since people aren't talking about him now as he's retired and he fought in an era that included Mayweather and Pacquiao, two certifiable ATGs.

Cotto was a great fighter for his era, but not an all time great.

He was actually a little overrated when he was active cause he was a very popular, exciting fighter and HBO hyped him up heavily.

The Pac/Floyd era wasn't even a particularly strong one by historical 140-147 standards. So what era would he have been one of the definitive best?

because one legged Maravilla doesn't count
Martinez is another very good but not great fighter
