He can't make guys fight him if they don't want to fight him.
Asking Martinez to step up is the equivalent to asking why ggg will never fight Andrade or why he officially ducked Charlo or why he ducked Chenko that one time. You guys really never ask why Martinez didn’t give Rubio who held the belt first a chance. So maybe he saw Rubio as a paper champ and since Golovkin won everything off a vacancy, I’m sure there was no reason to take Golovkin seriously. You must understand that Sergio had put in the work but was never afforded the opportunity to receive those vacant handouts. So why would he make it that easy on Golovkin? Think man

Just before the fight my Dad said that Martinez “Was leaking oil”, made me concerned. Still I believed in him. But he showed up with two knee braces and moved like his feet were glued to the canvas. I was humbled.
Yeah same. My first post of these forums in 2009 was asking about Martinez and who he was fighting next (John Duddy, they said. LOL). Huge fan. When the Cotto fight was made, I was so excited to finally see him fight and defeat a PPV star. I actually turned the fight off after the first round... couldn't watch!

But yeah, not to discredit Cotto, but Martinez was completely cooked by that point. Doesn't take any way of how epic his run was when he came out of nowhere and took boxing by storm.

seeing as they were elite welters, and an elite welter beat GGG too, then there would be no change.

until you realise that sergio was a welter too, so it tips things in his favour. What you really mean is why didny GGG manage to win anything above MW.

The Pavlik win tops GGG's whole resume anyway.

GGG has Jacobs (while talented, Quillin is his only signature win). That flash kd lost it for him vs GGG. If Mora had real power....
GGG at the most logical best is 1-1 vs Nelo.
The 2nd fight > the 1st performance wise.
Nelo elevated his game while GGG still relied on his jab and headhunting.

Talents aside, true fans of the sport have to go by actual resumes. Prior to Jacobs, GGG's resume is pretty sad.
It's not as bad you say. Kell Brook was an undefeated champion at welterweight and was widely regarded as the top guy (at the time) behind Floyd and Pac. Golovkin beat him down quickly. Paul had a good welterweight run but was also in the shadow Floyd, Oscar and Pac. I consider Lemieux a good and very dangerous fighter by the time Golovkin fought him. His performances against Rosado, Macklin, Wade, Monroe, Geal, Murray and Stevens were all sensational stand out performances against championship worthy opposition. His robbery and razor close rematch with Canelo was better than anything Sergio had on his resume. I also don't consider Sergio's stoppage losses to Margarito and Cotto wins for him as far as his legacy being better.

Are we still pretending that Martinez wasn't a hobbling cripple with multiple consecutive knee surgeries in that Cotto fight?

                  Huh ?!?!? (the bold)

I don't know of anyone who gave Brook a chance vs GGG.

LeMeh and the rest were C level at best.

I find it strange that after had GGG never fought Nelo and/or Jacobs, his age would never be mentioned.

Martinez win over Pavlik tops anything on Golovkin's record

                      also, Martinez would fight anyone

we told you guys that Golovkin needed to take the fights he was avoiding
