I'm not buying this excuse. Yes, he is young BUT he only feels regret because of the negative attention he is getting from his statement. This doesn't change the way he thinks, it just changes the way he elaborates on the subject.

I see this all the time where (insert racial identity) feels entitled to talk crap about another race simply because they aren't getting enough backlash nor are held to the same social standards. I wouldn't let this dude off the hook.

Think it sooo funny how Sergey Kov. Racist comments don't get half the backlash.

Not too long ago when people brought up the things Sergey said its like alot of guys were defending it or asking the vintage "how was that racist" comment.

But oh well.... Im not the least bit surprised on this site.

Sure Kovalev has his supporters and his fanatics who turn a blind eye to his life outside the ring but every time I see an article about him, people are flipping out, calling him a racist, rapist, etc.
The fact of the matter is Kovalev has found himself in some serious legal trouble which is much worse than a flippant racial remark from Haney.

People say ****** stuff all the time, especially when they get amped. Sometimes people say things differently depending on thier audience as well.

Bottom line, I doubt he's legitimately a racist and probably has no more prejudicial thought than most.

I think he's incredibly talented although i wasn't really a fan before, nor did I really dislike him....and I think that's part of his problem, he doesn't really move the needle for alot of people.

Haney is a kid... Kids use the term White Boy all the time. In a perfect world we could equalize the impact of words, but in real life it does not work that way. The N word is fundamentally different in its structure, use and evocation than the W word.

It is very natural for a cheeky Black kid to make a statement like Haney did...Thats probably why he did it... It does not make him a racist. When I was teaching High School I had a kid tell me that I looked like M&M. At the time I did not know M&M was White...So the kid inferred my lack of knowledge and camly told me that M&M and I were both "White Boys." Big deal! I know I know if the situation were reversed, but words grow their own gravitas and using the N word is very different whether we like it, or not.

I hear what you're saying but what would the W word be? White? That's not racist at all in itself. Obviously you can use it in a derogatory sense in a sentence but maybe whitey or even ******* would be more suitable. Still, neither have the negative historical significance of the N word.
