He was responding to a question about loma. Regardless of how you decide to interpret it he still didn’t say that one race is superior to another. You choose to spin it like that because it suits your agenda.

Lol at “loma will punish him for us”. I certainly don’t share this mentality. My racial pride definitely isn’t tied to Haney and his success. I don’t see his wins as my wins or his losses as my losses. Sounds like an inferiority complex to me. I also think that this mentality is ultimately the root of racism/white supremacy. You’ve got to remember that Haney has been born and raised in white supremacist society. It’s natural for him to rebel against that. There’s no systematic black supremacy that whites are subjected to to rebel against.

Honestly, I can’t say if it’s an apology or not, but who really cares. I’ve just been making wisecracks in these threads the past couple of days, cus I think this has gotten way past the point of ridiculous. And SO WHAT if he doesn’t like white people. Not everybody likes every everyone. If the guy’s being honest, big deal. That’s just how he feels. I’m not black, and Hopkins is still one of my all time favs. If Haney was a bit more accomplished, he would probably would not have caught as muck flak as he is. I think he’s also being looked at as a little shizz, and not just a bigot.

It’s a fact that Haney’s comment came in response to a question about loma. Again, my point was that he didn’t say that one race was superior to another race as he has been accused of doing. Taking his comments at face value, they aren’t racist. Y’all are the ones spinning this. “He’s saying that white fighters are inferior”. That’s not what he said.

That's a totally different context than Haney's comment. Haney's statement that he'd never lose to a white boy infers that white people are inferior, so therefore one could never beat him.

Thats true... But growing up as a minority in my neighborhood...a White Person in East Harlem, I can tell you that I had to face down Puerto Rican kids with hate in their eyes using that term... Of course my friends were also Puerto Rican kids lol...

And the way Haney said what he did was more along the lines of what we would do when we were teasing each other, than the hateful things I had to deal with. My son deals with it here in Baltimore as well... His friends, his same friends that come over here get fed by me and consider me a second dad... Its hard to explain the logic to it and I cannot deny your initial comment.

We all say dumb sheit sometimes. Hope he learns from it, keeps it moving, and does great things.

But let me make a point. He says he used "a term" and that's not the issue for a couple of reasons. First, there's no offensive term. I don't think I've ever met a white man who sees offense in "white boy." That's not an offensive term.

Second, and more important, is that it's not the term that is the issue, but the ideology behind the statement. If I slip up and use a term that is offensive, that's one thing. But, if I believe that one group of people is inherently better than all members of another group, then that is wrong regardless of what terminology I use.

Thats a valid point, one that Sub Zero raised also. I do think that Haney may have not thought about it that way, but regardless, when on the big boy stage, one has to act like a big boy.

Its intresting to me...someone who has dealt with a lot of that dynamic growing up... that I made certain automatic assumptions. I think we all do lol. I pictured Haney being cheeky and not making a legit statement of superiority. I still think that is probably the case...knowing it is an assumption. I also think he does have to be aware of how he comes across.

He said nothing about one group being better than another group. He said that he wouldn’t lose to a “white boy” and was referring to one white boy specifically in lomachenko. White people jumped on the fake outrage train to try and punish him and to deflect from their own racism. It’s that simple.

Oh no its not! Some white people defended him, some Black people defended him, others rebuked him... Its not simple at all. You cannot make Haney's decision to say something the fault of others, that is ridiculous.
