AJ’s career is no different. He’s been carefully matched throughout his entire career. But I don’t hold that against him because he’s a fighter, and he fights whoever they put in front of them.Comment

That was in spite of Haymon’s intentions. Al thought Ruiz had no chance to win. He thought he would use the Joshua loss to build up his name to feed to his own HW stable at PBC later. Hence why he allowed Ruiz to agree to those rematch clause terms. He knew it was the only way to get the fight and thought a rematch would never happen so it didn’t matter.
Uncle Al is trying to line his pockets at PBC. He’s shown the fighters best interests aren’t his top priority.Comment

From browsing the post on this thread, it appears that one of two things (or both) happened:
1. Al Haymon steered Kownacki away from a shot at Anthony Joshua in lieu of a shot at Deontay Wilder
2. Kownacki himself (or his manager) said he wasn't quite ready for Joshua and that he needed a few more fights under his belt.
I don't know the inner workings of the PBC, however I do know that:
1. Luis Ortiz was also steered away from Anthony Joshua in lieu of a rematch with Deontay Wilder, which he received after beating a few journeymen/fringe contenders (Razjan Cojanu, Travis Kauffman, and Christian Hammer). He was expected to win those fights and he won them so he got the Wilder rematch as promised
2. Adam Kownacki has also faced a few journeymen/fringe contenders (Gerald Washington, Chris Arreola and Robert Helenius), with the expectation that he would win and then receive a shot at Deontay Wilder as promised. Kownacki was favored in all three fights but he lost the last one. It happens and I don't know that you can necessarily blame Al Haymon for Kownacki losing what was supposed to be a tune-up/stay-busy fight.Comment

Yes, actually. The WBA does it constantly. I was even saying when this got announced that eliminators would be far better if they were competitive fights. It’s why I was happy when Price knocked Povetkin down. I’d say that Upsets like this look good on the ABC orgs, but they don’t care.Comment

How can you say that Haymon thought Ruiz had no chance? Many boxing fans including myself said at the time the list came out “they won’t pick Ruiz, his hand speed would cause issues.”That was in spite of Haymon’s intentions.
