I think that beating Cintron was a good accomplishment. I just think Cintron is limited against a guy like Margarito he can't just blast out from distance. Once they started in-fighting it was over for Cintron. But hey I think you see something, that is why Mosley didn't want the fight immediately after Estrada (I know he hadn't fought Cintron yet)because he sees the danger also. -
But the thing is right now there isn't an elite fighter that will fight him this year. He's supposed to fight in December. Will he fight a legit contender (Rivera or Collazo level fighter), a top prospect (Williams or Quintana), or another no hoper (Gomez, Lujan)? When the elite guys choose not to fight him, why does he continue to fight guys that do nothing to bolster his claim that he himself is an elite fighter?Originally posted by amagninThink about it from Margarito's perspective for a minute. He has been a champ for 4 years and 6 defenses and the best opponent that agreed to face him was Cintron. He is probably frustrated. If he fights a Paul Williams or Quintana, how do you know that people will start respecting him more. Maybe people will dismiss those guys like they say Cintron is a muppet-baby now. He wants to show he is an elite fighter and the only way to do that is to fight an elite opponent.Comment

Honestly, Charlie, that has always been one point I acknowledge for Margarito. That connection to Mosley at least shows his style can give people who can hang with the best problems. Cintron is still ranked, which is what I want from Margarito- more ranked fights on his resume. He wins against Judah or Collazo and we have a lot less differences of opinion on his level of skill.Comment

because until an elite "name" fights him..he should fight his mandatorys and keep his title. thats what Hopkins did. Winky aswell....Originally posted by SiNBut the thing is right now there isn't an elite fighter that will fight him this year. He's supposed to fight in December. Hey I am a boxing fan so I would love to see him fight Williams, Quintana, Rivera, Collazo, Judah etc. But its hard to make good fights otherwise we would see better ones. We don't know how serious Williams or Quintana is, yes Williams called him out FOR 6 MILLION. Hell I'd fight him for 6 million. The only realistic opponent I have heard of so far is Rivera and even that means a move up to 154 which isn't Tony's desired course of action. If he is best at 147, why should he have to jump weight classes to make a "good fight." There are plenty of good fights available at 147 if someone would CHOOSE to fight himOriginally posted by SiNBut the thing is right now there isn't an elite fighter that will fight him this year. callozo not judah..judah is ajoke at this point..if he beats Judah he just beat an inconsistent fighter, who has already been beatin again and again...Originally posted by Njord777Honestly, Charlie, that has always been one point I acknowledge for Margarito. even if he is in rap videos, this isnt a popularity contest

Judah is an inconsistent fighter. Agreed. But Judah is still not a chump. If he was a chump Mayweather would have killed him from round one to twelve and probably knocked him out. Zab Judah just went 12 rounds with the pound for pound best...Margarito could serve himself well by facing Judah so we can see how he performs in comparison. I don't think based on the way Mayweather beat him we'll see a shot fighter or anything of the sort. It should be the same Judah that stepped into the ring with Mayweather...so we can compare Mayweather's skill to Margarito's skill through a direct comparison of how they did against a common opponent. All for arguement's sake, of course. Not saying it really proves much.Originally posted by charlie31callozo not judah..judah is ajoke at this point..if he beats Judah he just beat an inconsistent fighter, who has already been beatin again and again...

Judah with his problems in the later rounds, would be a relatively easy fight for margarito. (I don't see judah stopping margarito)Originally posted by charlie31callozo not judah..judah is ajoke at this point..if he beats Judah he just beat an inconsistent fighter, who has already been beating again and again...

Still at this point in his career we would see judah very focused, more like mayweather or spinks II than baldomir or spinks I.
BUT...
For boxing fans it would be interesting to see how the first few rounds go. how margarito can handle judah's speed. Is he going to break him down with bodywork? in how long? how many of the early rounds would tony win? those would all be interesting hints on how he would fare against mayw.Comment

The thing is with Hopkins and Winky, they were in pretty weak divisions and they had cleared out all of the viable contenders until they got their big break.Originally posted by charlie31because until an elite "name" fights him..he should fight his mandatorys and keep his title. thats what Hopkins did. Right now, welterweight is very deep and Margarito hasn't even scratched the surface...Comment
